last thing i'll say tn--now that this is over i can finally decide what aspects of show daeron im incorporating into my old portrayal & how im making it all fit together so expect that some time this week.... show daeron is so very special to me BUT so is the daeron that has existed in notes on my google drive for the last couple years and i will be testing my cringe tolerance reading through my old writing to merge them into one being <3
this quickly devolved into explaining every thought iâve ever had about him and where it came from so i've forced myself to write a shorter version; anything thatâs a new integration or change from season 3 is in purple! i've put aâŒïžaround the ones that are more worth reading bc theres a lot here lmao
( p.s. would love nothing more than for him to have his little gang of fellow squire friends <3 if anyone wants to write affliated OCs or just throw your existing OCs / characters with a HOTD verse at me so we can cook something up i will love you forever đ« )
traits & skills
âŒïžmy daeron is more outgoing and gregarious than show daeron (though only see him around ppl his own age for like 3 seconds and they seem to get along great so maybe show daeron is like that too!). he is at ease around people because when he is alone itâs much harder to ignore the bone deep loneliness that he more or less always feels. people generally like him because he is self-effacing and kind to everyone, regardless of whether they are âbeneath him.â while heâs definitely not the life of the party by any means, he will go out of his way to talk to the person who is standing alone in the corner at the party if that makes sense. âŒïž
âŒïždaeron highly imaginative, prone to drift into daydreaming, and still kisses his little tapestry of his family goodnight before he goes to sleep. he adores tales of brave knights and beautiful princesses and has projected them onto his siblings, especially aemond, who he WORSHIPS. âŒïž
âŒïžhe is genuinely pious, attends whatever version of mass they have regularly (usually twice a week), engages in confession frequently, and prays daily. he was raised to be religious and there was an element of anti-targaryen sentiment within that, whether that comes from the faithâs historical view of them or from ormundâs beliefs. either way itâs got its claws DEEP in him and has warped the way he views himself mostly for the negative and given him intrusive thoughts abt targaryen behaviors âąïž that he obsessively monitors but that needs its own post. this is one of my OLD hcs so it can still stand regardless of whether or not ormund has directly told him his blood is âtainted" but the addition of that makes it even better. (ormund's thing about smells would be a contributing factor in a preoccupation with personal hygiene but again⊠i'll talk about that later.)âŒïž
he is somewhat more assertive than the show version, but rarely directly defiant.
in s2 gwayne said heâs adept with a lute and then they never referenced that again but he IS adept with a lute and enjoys music (given alicent says ormund is fond of ballads, i think this is an area of genuine bonding for them).Â
he has inherited aspects of both gwayneâs athleticism and ormundâs intellect. he dgaf about history the way ormund wants him to, for better or worse, but he can pretty much always find something to romanticize and that gets him through. but often those are the only parts he retains long-term.
âŒïžhe is a period appropriate âbenevolentâ misogynist; though this doesnât necessarily mean he believes a woman canât rule, he does see women as inherently more merciful and gentle than men (ironic given how merciful and gentle he himself is, at least at the start of the war) and believes that a queen would be unable to do something harsh/seemingly cruel for the good of the realm if it was necessary (ironic bc he also wouldnât be able to do that). like the rest of the hightowers, daeron genuinely does view the throne as aegonâs birthright and sees rhaenyraâs claim as illegitimate. âŒïž
regardless of ormundâs view of the targaryens, his respect for corlys and his âsound breedingâ indicates to me that he doesnât view valyria as a whole with the same disdain. as such it doesnât make sense to me that daeron wouldnât be allowed to learn high valyrian. that being said, the only people around who are fluent enough to have full conversations with him are the dragon keepers; daeron isnât fluent by any means and can just about hold a normal conversation. (aemond would not be impressed.)
one thing about him is that he will destroy his cuticles when distressed; as with alicent, itâs often his only tell.
appearance
âŒïž im keeping his brown hair i think thatâs such a slay but i am giving him a little blond streak thatâs often twisted into his braids. (it seems feasible that heâd be able to stain it with henna to approximately match the rest of his hair if needed for keeping him âdisguisedâ.) âŒïž
his eyes arenât strikingly purple necessarily but they are a violet enough shade blue that people wouldnât have reason to doubt his valyrian blood upon looking closer
he was always quite small for his age until about 12 years old
timelines
the show timeline confuses the hell out of me because it requires entire armies to teleport on command and i do not know how old anyone is actually supposed to be at any point, so my daeronâs age will be flexible-ish (between 16 and 18) in order to keep his age the same in relation to other characters where that is important. for example, if writing with an aged up jace or baela, he will also be aged up to somewhat keep intact the dynamics and thematic contrast created by the three of them being the same age, unless plotted otherwise. iâll usually keep him a bit closer to aemondâs age than he is in the books (2ish years rather than 4; so approx 3 years younger than helaena and 5 years younger than aegon) so that he has at least some memories of important events of their childhoods lol.Â
(this isnât super relevant iâll default to assuming addam and alyn are also teenagers/young 20s unless discussed otherwise or like specified on your blog.)Â
he was sent to ward at approx 5 years old, so he has some memories and some existing relationship with his family, and stays in touch with his mother, grandfather, and siblings to whatever extent they are willing through letters. (this can be adapted younger for plotting if needed, or older for interaction with book based muses! in the latter case heâll get his religious guilt from alicent and otto <3)
family dynamics
i like the show angle of ormund and gwayne both infantalizing him in different ways for different reasons, but he does have feelings about it that he will express in various ways depending upon who heâs interacting with.Â
his desperation for paternal affection is pretty well aligned with what i had going over here. regardless of how ormund (& ormundâs father before him) and gwayne are as father figures, heâs got deep abandonment wounds from like. being abandoned <3 (the blame for which he directs almost solely at viserys, even if he knows for some reason what alicentâs role in sending him away was)Â
similarly he craves someone to mother him, though this feeling is more repressed bc he feels like he's betraying alicent when it surfaces
( + he is very detached from his father & has had almost no contact with him since leaving kingâs landing; any contact he has had is likely via otto. all he really remembers of viserys before that is being forced to (pretend to be) friends with jacaerys and otherwise being ignored/forgotten. )
tessarion
tessarion being chained up in the sept is unique to tumbleton and is as much a practical choice as it might be from ormund's distaste for dragons. in oldtown, she has dragonkeepers, some sort of makeshift dragon pit, and quite a lot of freedom. being confined makes her act more feral than she typically would lol but sheâs always very strong willed and sort of unruly. (idk what to say about her eating that man but i doubt sheâs being fed very well in there)Â
âŒïžshe is nothing if not possessive lol and it sort of goes both ways, he isnât generally a jealous person but he HATES the idea of her bonding with someone else one day when he is dead. tessarion is the only being he doesn't fear being abandoned by. ( in combination with ormundâs possessiveness to whatever degree that exists, his view of love is Not Healthy.) âŒïž
hatched from her egg shortly before he was sent to oldtown, so she has had very little interaction with other dragons.Â
i am not sure how this aligns with either the book or the show, but tessarion has been big enough to bear a rider since he was about 14.Â
a few thoughts on events of the war
âŒïži can follow show or book events depending on what writing partners need/prefer, but i generally write with a mixture of the two in mind⊠this warrants its own post but for the moment just know that he and tessarion would be doing SOMETHING during the siege of tumbleton, whether thatâs scouting and eventually engaging in combat or having an instrumental role in taking tumbleton in the first place. there needs to be a reason for him to be knighted lol. âŒïž
âŒïžit is extremely unlikely that my daeron would stand by and let ormund usurp his brotherâs throne in his name if he believed either aegon or aemond were still alive. while he might not actually be able to do anything about it, ormund would get a considerably more pushback about it and he might fly away in the middle of the night lol âŒïž
as in the show he doesnât have much interest power and hates the idea of being king, but will continue fighting for the greens either because aemond isnât dead yet OR because his nephew (maelor) has a claim to the throne. once maelor is dead he continues because he wants to kill rhaenyra and free his mother and sister, and because conceding to her out of fear of ruling would mean everyone died for nothing.Â
speaking of the man in the sept, that really seemed like a good set up for ormund asking him to do progressively worse things for approval until it eventually reached the point of burning bitterbridge (for which there is no good explanation without maelor), but then that went absolutely nowhere??? so i think im gonna say that that didnât happen unless weâre working it into a plot as something that actually has consequences.Â
this is whatâs happening with the fake daeron. in relation to my daeron, clemment is one of a half dozen or so boys that make up daeronâs little âcliqueâ (not in like a mean or exclusive way heâs just a creature of habit) in oldtown so he certainly hates the idea, but clemment is of an age that daeron (and probably everyone else?) would consider a man so heâs ultimately willing to respect his decision and trusts that he is resourceful enough to make it through somehow.
if you read all that or even some of it hereâs a gold star and a kiss on the forehead i love you âđ
&. CLEMMENT FLOWERS, baseborn son of ser martyn tyrell
( masterpost )
BASIC INFO.
name  clemment flowersÂ
lineage     illegitimate & favorite son of ser martyn tyrell, who is one of many cousins of the infant lord lyonel tyrell, and the nephew of lord matthos tyrell, the previous lord of oldtown. his mother was martyn's lyseni lover of ambiguous ethnic heritage; clemment does not know her nor know what became of her.Â
born    between 113 and 115 AC, timeline dependent; making him 6-8 months older than prince daeron targaryen.
appearance    with blue ( not violet or purple ) eyes and light blond ( though not quite silver ) hair, clemment is, at a glance, what one would expect a targaryen prince to look like.
orientation     bisexual
personality      some might say deception comes naturally to him, as a bastard, given that he can talk himself out of most any situation. clemment is intelligent, kind of mouthy, arrogant, generally considered to be funny and charming, but often inconsistent / flaky ( because of an enduring fear of attachment ).
skill     he lacks the combat skills coveted by boys his age, at least the âhonorableâ kind; heâd never do well in a tourney but can be quite scrappy if backed in a corner. in more intellectual pursuits, he learns and adapts quickly; his wit is undeniable.Â
summary      clemment takes the place as hostage to daemon and rhaenyra, who believe he is daeron targaryen, a choice he makes to aid lord ormundâs battle plans and advance the greensâ cause. exactly how this decision is reached and how much daeron is privy to the plan will be verse / plot dependent; it could range from being clemmentâs own suggestion to ormund manipulating / convincing him to agree, but he wouldnât be forced or threatened and would feel quite strongly that itâs the right thing to do. clemment believes he is uniquely equipped to be helpful ( to daeron / to the greens as a whole ) in this particular way, which is true in many ways, as someone who knows daeron well enough to convincingly mimic his mannerisms and looks like the platonic ideal of a targaryen princeling. ( + the story that they bleached his hair and threatened to kill his mother is something he might convincingly lie about if push comes to shove, but he'd likely be able to maintain his disguise for a lot longer than the kid in the show and wouldn't be so meek and silent while doing so lol. to be clear, he knows there's a very high chance of death and does it anyway; it's not like he'd be particularly useful as a soldier, and that would be certain death. )
before the war he is a squire ( by default to my gwayne, but it could be any knight ) in oldtown, where he has lived since he was seven years old when his father was given a place at the hightower court. ( of note, martyn left his wife and trueborn children behind in highgarden; it is no secret that clemment is the favorite among his fatherâs children. )Â
