The Trebuchet is a better firesupport mech than the Catapult in every metric a firesupport mech cares about. It is more mobile, cheaper, and has better quirks. It doesn't even sacrifice firepower or ammo with its lighter frame! And hey, arms! Those are useful!

Not a chance. Worse armor and it starts overheating faster. "Fire Support Mech" does not equate to artillery piece. The mech will still get shot at and have to deal with enemies closing into the minimum range of the missiles, and the catapult does this better by having more self defense weapons.
