Its been five years of it’s august and the flow of time still haunts me

I miss the days when I had people to talk with about interests. Connections so solid that nothing could break them. I don't think I've had an actual best friend in literal years and I really miss it. Being able to ramble whenever, day after day, send as much fanart as I wanted. Learn so much about someone else and have this .. really great bond. Understanding and trust that isn't broken by people being jealous or lashing out at nothing. After the last two "best friends" I've had in this world I could really do with someone showing me what a true friend is like. Bro I'm so down low these days I could use a good companionship.

It's weird to me that people, when trying to excuse aphobia in fandoms say "it's just shipping!! shipping is meant to be fun!! we're just having fun!!" as if to imply that aspec people can't be fun, or that being aspec is boring and putting them in a "normal relationship" is, well, CLEARLY more interesting, right!?!!?!!

Sorry this is going to be a lot of yapping but this post made me think

It's so painfully normalized in fandom spaces to completely ignore a character's identity so they can justify their favorite ship.

I find it so interesting how, when a character is clearly stated to have an allo-queer sexual identity, the majority somehow manages to respect that, but as SOON as a character is canonically aspec or very clearly shows aspec traits, suddenly everyone has to headcanon them as something different because they NEED to put them in a romantic relationship with this other character.

Even in real-life spaces, aspec people are dismissed and ostracized for "not being like everyone else". They're told at every turn that their identities are bound to change, or they're not real, or that surely, some day, they'll find someone right for them. Even if it's not said right to their face, it's something that's reinforced in practically every single piece of media ever and it's?? Super harmful??

The LGBTQIA+ community idolizes romance. (Like the entire rest of the world.) And in doing so, we ignore and hurt a very big margin of the people and identities we swore to accept and protect.

It's so so important that we learn to grow past this. Romantic relationships are NOT inherently more or less significant than any other relationship. Friendships, or even just casual nonplatonic/nonromantic relationships are INCREDIBLY important, and can be (and often ARE) just as fulfilling.

It's almost like viewing one kind of relationship as better than another is the exact kind of thing we've been trying to stop. But maybe that's just me.
