I mentioned the OUYA console earlier here. Well, today the Kickstarter finally ended and the project has been funded. It'll be interesting to see where everything goes from here. Hopefully the OUYA team will be able to keep all their promises when it comes time to actually release the system. So far, it still seems promising and they have made some changes such as the Ethernet port that everyone was requesting. I'll continue to post about this console, as I find I interesting, so stay tuned.
So the OUYA team seems to be hard at work when it comes to designs and partners. I haven't been posting about each update, but I decided that the newest one warranted it. Instead of just posting about that one though, I figured that I would do a bit of a recap in a nice neat list (if you want more, I'll be posting more stuff after the break). I'll be starting with material from their 4th update post.
Update 4:
OUYA gets their first exclusive game called Human Element (a "post-zombie-apocalyptic game" by Robotoki.
Update 6 (update 5 skipped because there wasn't anything good there.):
OnLive (an online play on-demand video game service) says that they will be coming to OUYA.
More design information was released (I will post images after the break.)
Update 7:
Final Fantasy III for OUYA is announced.
So there you go, a really short little list. If you want more, keep reading below, or check out their update posts here.
OnLive:
So OnLive is an on demand video game service. What does that mean? It means that the games are stored somewhere. And you are not there. So its kind of like a on demand video. This service allows you to play a bunch of big name games. You can check them all out on their site. OnLive was also explained in the update post. I'll sitck that right here:
What does that mean for OUYA backers?
OnLive will deliver a full console-class experience, bringing hundreds of top-tier games from more than 80 publishers to the OUYA console for play on demand.
OUYA owners will be able to jump in and play any of these games both at home on their OUYA console, and on the go on PCs, Macs, tablets and phones, never leaving a game behind.
Instant demos will be available for nearly every game in our ever-growing library—from eagerly anticipated indie titles like Ravaged, to hot blockbusters like the upcoming Darksiders® II. Players can experience up to 30 minutes of each game for free before deciding what to buy. If they like it, they can continue playing where the demo left off.
OnLive already delivers a premium gaming experience to tablets, smartphones, PCs, Macs, connected TVs and HDTVs via the OnLive® Game System or dedicated streaming devices like the VIZIO Co-Star. We’re pleased to deliver the same OnLive experience on the OUYA console when it launches next year.
New design images:
Final Fantasy III:
So apparently the OUYA team struck a deal with Square Enix to bring FFIII to the OUYA (with optimized graphics) but also a free demo you could try out first. I'll just stick the entire post below:
We’ve been saying that OUYA will offer all kinds of games.
This morning, we are honored to announce that OUYA is partnering withSquare Enixto bring you one of the most beloved franchises in gaming -- Final Fantasy. We will kick this off with Final Fantasy III, which will be a launch title on OUYA. This will be the first time gamers outside of Japan can play FFIII on their televisions through a console.
But that’s not the end of it: We’re promising to deliver Final Fantasy III like you’ve never seen it before – Hironobu Sakaguchi’s third installment in the role playing game franchise will be updated to exploit OUYA’s high-definition resolution in glorious graphic detail. For those of you who are new to Final Fantasy, we’ll offer a free demo so you can give it a go!
Previously unreleased in the U.S. until it appeared as a 3D remake for the Nintendo DS in 2006, Final Fantasy III was widely referred to as one of the “missing pieces” in the FF series. OUYA players can now proudly claim this piece of the puzzle.
We’re thrilled to bring this storied franchise to OUYA.
If you haven't played Motherload, it's a pretty fun mining game where you go and mine materials under the surface of mars. using your mining machine. Oh, and there's a boss battle. If you haven't checked it out, you should (Here). So why am I writing this? Well, there is a Super Motherload Kickstarter.
This new game will be a variant of the original with a bunch of new material including a co-op version and a new more expansive story. There is a $50,000 goal listed and the game is almost done (according to their video.) What the developers say they need help with are the costs of publishing, office space, etc. that goes along with making the game. So what are you waiting for? Go play some Motherload and then look at their Kickstarter!
So apparently, some people decided that they were going to steal a load of beta keys during Muse Game's giveaway on the Guns of Icarus Facebook page HERE. Due to this, they have halted the distribution of beta keys. I wonder if those involved realize that these keys will NOT get you the final version of the game, just the beta.Obviously they were trying to get something out of it because a bunch of these keys ended up on SteamGifts. This evil plot was foiled however as the mods ban-hammer swooped towards them, suspending accounts that were giving away these keys (under the name Guns Of Icarus, Muse Games single player version of the game). Yayy, ban-hammer!
For those that do have a beta key, they have also released some information regarding the beta weekend which will run from 12 pm 8/3/12-8/5/12 11:50 pm EST.
If you want to read more, this is the link to their blog post.
Guns of Icarus Online is a multiplayer game set to release in early Fall of 2012 where you fly around blow up airships. Interesting, no? Tell you more? Okay, I will. This game centers around a few different roles, those being engineer, captain, and gunner. Each of these classes has a role in keeping the airship afloat. That's right, you don't just get to fly around and blow stuff up, you have to maintain your ship. If you get hit you better repair the damage (especially if your balloon gets damaged.) If you have this down to an art, you can concentrate on the next part, maneuvering the airship so the gunners can take out other ships. This takes some practice, but once you get a hang of it, its fun. The gunners have the easyer job of shooting other ships. So yea, that's pretty much it. Anyway, on to what I think about the game.
I want to apologize in advance for the lack of screenshots and video. I did take some, but I deleted them accidentally (go easy on me, mistakes happen. I will post what I have after the break though.) Well anyway, let me just tell you what I think of this game exactly... In three nice short lists (one for the positives, one for neutral stuff, and one for the negatives) since I don't want people yelling "TLDR, wah wah wah".
The :D
It's fun. Blowing up stuff is fun. Don't you even try to deny this.
Airships are cool, and therefore playing this will make you cool. (Got some solid logic there.)
Play with friends, or if you don't have any join randomly and make some.(Making friends not guaranteed.)
Gameplay is easy to figure out.
As with many games, the soundtrack is nice.
The game isn't extremely demanding. As they said in their FAQ "As a general rule of thumb, if you can run a recent game like Portal 2, you can run Guns of Icarus Online."
No subscription fees!
The :/
If you don't have a full crew its harder to win. (The AI aren't very helpful.)
I personally wish there was more customization when it comes to ships (this will probably come later though.)
No hand to hand combat and boarding of other peoples ships. This made me sad.
Only a few game modes (the developers have hinted at more to come.)
The D:
Gameplay is choppy at times (this was beta though, so this will probably be fixed.)
The game can get repetitive at times.
The game is pricey even with the pre-order discount of 25%
There is no offline mode (thus, the name.)
So anyway, after playing the game a few times during their beta weekends, I decided to pre-order, so obviously I enjoy the game. There are videos around of the game-play on YouTube and a few sites including their official site. You should definitely check it out.
Here is the link again: CLICK ME.
The few screenshots I have and other stuff is below:
A view from the front of one of the ships.
One of the guns.
Another one of the guns.
Shell ejection.
Larger pictures here.
And here is one of the gameplay videos from their site:

Okay, you can go back to anything else you were doing now.
I mentioned the Defense Grid 2 Kickstarter earlier here but I figured that I would mention it again since they are still trying to meet their goal. I dont think that its very likely that they are going to meet their 1,000,000 goal, so DG2 is probably not going to happen, but the $250,000 goal is still attainable. For those who haven't visited the page, or who don't feel like clicking the link, I'll just put the goal information below:
Personally, I would still want to see DG2 happen, but an expansion is still pretty great.
You have just a few more hours before the Gamedev Bundle Concludes! You should go check it out. You can pay anywhere from $0.50-$1000 and get access to 6 games. You even get a Desura key for the entire bundle. Oh, and if you pay more than $6 you will get access to an extra game and soundtracks from four of the games and artwork for three of the games in the bundle.
Well I'm a bit late since I haven't posted for a while, but nevertheless here is another bundle by indieroyale. The current minimum is $5.51 (from the time of this post.) So what do you get for your money?
Puzzle Agent
Geneforce Saga
Oniken
Mutant Storm Reloaded
Swift Stitch
Unepic
And if you pay more than $8, you also get Chiptune.
I'm personally not going to get this one, but you may want to. So go ahead and check it out.
Do you like tower defense games? Ah, yeah I do too. Since you like them so much, read on I'm sure you'll like this.
So, the guys over at Hidden Path Entertainment have started up a kickstarter to fund a new project. What project, you may ask (look back at the title of this post.) That's right, they are trying to get funding to make Defense Grid 2! They have a minimum of $250,000 listed on the page but that will not quite bring fans of of the first Defense Grid DG2. If you take a look at their kickstarter page you will see that they have set up a "timeline". This timeline goes from the minimum $250,000 up to $1,000,000. There are levels at points between these two amounts. Only at one million will they be able to release the full version of DG2.
So I'm sure you are wondering. "Why is a game company asking for backers to fund a game? Well, as the video on their kickstarter page said "Publishers these days only want to spend their effort on projects that are larger and this one is too small for them to care." It's upsetting to see this since they have such a large fan base for the game.
Isn't that sad? I thought so. If you do too you should go and back them! Oh, and if you do (for $15) they will give you a copy of Defense Grid, redeemable on steam!
So I got an email a few days ago talking about something called the IFK Indie Platform. Apparently, the guys at the IFK bundle came up with this new platform that allows for you to purchase rewards based off of how many referral points you get and even earn your bundle for free for referring people. It also allows for you to manage your keys more easily. I'll post the email below.
Before you go read that though, I just wanted to mention that the one prize that you can currently buy with your referral points is Max Payne 3. Makes you want to refer some people now, doesn't it? As a matter of fact, why don't you just buy through this link. If you do, I'll write about all the games.
Read the email after the break.
Many of you may be wondering why the heck we have had BITG up so long, and the
answer is this: We aren't trying to burn through piles of good games in a fast
time - we are trying to help the developers earn extra profit from their titles
to go towards their next development.
With that said, we would like to announce that IFK Indie Bundle has now been
upgraded to the IFK Indie Platform. What does this mean for you?
Every single user whom has already bought a bundle will be getting an e-mail
with a user name and password. You will then be able to login, order prizes,
refer your friends to earn rewards, view your keys and more.
That's right, we've spent the last month perfecting the IFK system and now we
would also like to introduce the "Overdrive" Feature.
What is Overdrive? When Overdrive is active (You will see it on the front page)
for every order made you will receive a free $1 bundle. This mode will go into
effect for the rest of BITG as we wrap it up and launch our next bundle.
How the referral system works: Each user has their own unique link, you can also
send e-mails to your friends through the site with the link directly. You can
use this link in message boards, your blog, facebook or youtube. (any reports
of spamming will see that user blocked) Anytime someone signs up with your link
you will receive a percentage of what that person buys from IFK for the entire
lifespan of the referred user.
There is a new "Prize" shop where you can get anything from actual cash to
instantly redeemable game codes. It's that simple - one click buy. Remember
though we do check everything for thoroughness.
This is the biggest update we have made yet, and we hope that you enjoy it as
much as we enjoy serving you. We've added 10 days to the BITG clock with
Overdrive enabled so you can begin using the new features now.
Oh, and out of money? You can now register and refer people to earn your
bundle -- FREE. This is the only bundle site to offer such a feature and for those of
you who cannot afford every bundle we hope it will allow for you to get some
good games.
http://www.indiefacekick.com
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the new IFK Platform. Prior to or following this
email all current buyers will get their user name and password to login. (no
more lost keys!).
Thanks for sticking with IFK, and remember, we're GamingAllTheTime, are you?
I mentioned earlier in this post. That Groupees was going to soon launch another bundle called Build a Bundle 2. Well, if you feel so inclined, you can now reserve a copy. Check out the games now!
There is no news regarding the eBook bundle or the music bundle, but I'm almost positive they will launch at the same time.
If you like game bundles but are tired of having to pay for games you don't want, be sure to go check out Build A Bundle 2 (see widget at end of post). This is yet another "pay what you want" (minimum $3 USD because of stuff we wont get into) bundle by Groupees. As of this post, the promo page is up and the following 12 games are listed:
Alien Breed: Impact
Dead Horde
Tiny Bang Story
Syberia 2
Iron Grip: Warlords
A Stroke of Fate:Operation Valkyrie
Hammerfight
Will Fight For Food
