Big trigger warning, in that I will mention *that* man (the one intimately connected with Good Omens)
So - I've been watching the fandom over the last several weeks. Been watching vitriol slung back and forth, watching people being accused of being 'on copium' - and please, could we have a moratorium on that particular phrase? There's many in the fandom who are recovering addicts, myself included, and it's insensitive. There are better ways of getting your point across than accusing people of being on drugs.
Welp, I digressed from my main point there, and I do have one (so sorry it's not dolphins this time). We're fighting. And we should be able to respectfully disagree with one another without fighting about it. We should be able to read meta analyses, and think about it, and maybe change our minds or not - either way, and we should be making art, writing fics and whole albums of songs, and generally, engaging with one another as peacefully as possible. Some of us (myself included) liked or loved the ending, and we have our reasons, and some of us did not, and those people have their reasons as well. At the end of the day, it is a divisive piece of media, and that's okay. It's okay to love it, like it, be neutral about it, not like it, or hate it. All of these things are valid, and should not be points of contention that cause massive rifts in the fandom.
But you see, we've been engineered into this position. And we all know by who. And he's LOVING it. Positively bathing in it. You know how I know? He's still on this site. I know, because I still have him in my 'following' list. And I've done that, kept him in my lists, despite what he's done, because I want to jump on his neck and chase him out of here the second he rears his scruffy, nasty head. And I can only do that if I'm still following his blog. So, I'm doing that, and checking up on it from time to time. It hasn't been deactivated. So, he may actually be lurking, and deriving great glee from the power he still feels he has. Power we're giving him by being downright nasty to one another. Please, let's stop doing that!
Lets all band together in that one particular upon which we can all agree - that man has no right to mess with us. He's not better than us, quite the opposite, really. And we should band together and make sure that he understands just how little he is. And just how little power he has anymore. See, I know this man. Not him personally, but one just like him. My own father was very much like Mr. Handson Withoutconsent. And when I ended his reign of terror over my life, I did it with a look of mild disgust, much as you would give a bit of dog dirt on your shoe - yuck, but easily dealt with by scraping it off on the next available patch of grass or concrete curb, never to be thought of again. That turned my father into a nothing immediately. And he's never resurfaced in my life. Disinterested disdain is a powerful weapon - and we can employ it heartily against this narcissistic sadist.
Absolute vitriol against the actual problem can also be helpful - fear is a hell of a motivator too. And if he fears us, if he fears what we might do, maybe he'll just fade away into the obscurity he deserves. Whatever feels right to you, I guess. I'm opting for sarky name calling, and general disdain. But definitely scream profanities at the bugger if it makes you feel better! It certainly can't hurt. Maybe just stop screaming obscenities at each other - that's fuel for his narcissism.
