Final Zines
Evaluation.
In being of this project, I was interested in exploring the Milton Keynes and its locals. Milton Keynes is a designed city: after noticing how empty the city was at all times, I decided to research how the city and its modern architectural structures are useful to its current residences.
I took inspiration from Thomas More: Utopia, Elian Hardwood: Space Hope Brutalism, Richard Noble: Utopia and Dan Norman: The design of everyday things. This inspired me to make a black and white line illustrated video inspired by MK most recognisable structures. However, I soon came to a decision that the video was not successful enough to present as a final piece of this project.I also made some paintings which were not successful and I was not able to use them any further. Throughout this project I had been trying make the personal to improve my ideas.
To solve this problems, I then decided to a zine based to the MK 1970-00s news leaflets. I created my own illustrations which were successful in term of purpose and design. Some the development for the zines are incredibly successful, to improve on them. I am thinking of printing them on eco/cotton bags.
Final editing before printing (digitally).
Here are some of my most successful illustrations for the zine, inspired by MK’ news leaflets. The is no definite meaning behind these illustrations, I decided that it is important for the audience to create own meanings. The theme is Milton Keynes’s locals. This makes it simple to understand which most important at this stage .
Aim: I intended to create colourful, yet simple illustrations. The illustrations are a collection of Milton Keynes’ 1970s-00 news leaflets illustrators and my own inspired creations. I want the audience to speculate which illustrations are my own creation and which are direct from the news leaflets. I believe I’ve achieved this aim.
Creating a zine.
I used inks to recreate my favourite characters and text from the new leaflets. I also designed my own illustrations inspired by news leaflets. This gave me the opportunity to make the project personal and show my skills, unlike before. I don't want the zines to tell a story, but simply celebrate the lives of Milton Keynes local people. By bringing the lives of the past residences to life and to the new residences. The idea is to create a 3 main zines with the same context but rearranged differently. I plan to printing more of each later for the exhibition in May 2017 at MK Gallery. As for the colours, I the idea of yellows and black on newspaper-print paper. Therefore most of the drawings will be yellow (among other colours: red, orange and green). The 1970-00s news leaflets were my inspiration to print the zines on newspaper print. I believe this will create a bold statement, less boring than just white paper.

Inspiration for Zine
Since deciding the line live video was not as strong to present as a final piece or to keep working on, I focused on making a newspaper inspired zine based on the MK news leaflets from the 1970-2000s. As part of my research, I looked at some interesting vintage-style, personalised occasional cards. I focused on the 1970s-00s because this was the time now Milton Keynes still being built and was relatively new.
Changes and new developments.
Throughout the project I have tried to make a personal connection with my work, with Milton Keynes. However the concept of my work has not allowed of me to do so. I have decided to make zines inspired by the news leaflets, this way I will be able to show a apart of me that is inspired by Milton Keynes.I will continue explore how different planned cities succeed or fail in their purposes.
The complete video.
This short video explores the empty designed spaces of Milton Keynes. I loved the simplicity of the black and white edges. However, I have decided to not continue working on this or use it a final piece.
Tracking progress.
Since the last feedback, I’ve:
Looked at different videos for inspiration.
Visited the Milton Keynes Discovery Centre .
Changed the format of which I present my ideas in, from animation to video.
Still focusing on the planned city of Milton Keynes and its locals (its uses, successes and failures)
Feedback.
This style of videos editing show lacks in skill, etc. Try using other editing tools.
Think of adding sound/music.
The style of editing is very similar to another student’s project.
Editing the video.
Working material 3
These videos (among others) are part of the short video am making, showing some of Milton Keynes’ most recognised architectural structures. I choose to use black and white because of the simplicity and my previous developments.
Working material 2
Working material 1: I’ve decided to keep a clean line drawing theme throughout my work.
IDEAS!
I took these during my second visit to Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre, their news leaflets by the locals in 1960s-2000s. I am interested in these news leaflets because of their simplicity, lack of colour and playfulness. This leaves a strong impression on the reader. At this time, I’ve have too many ides on how to develop them into my work. For example:
Make inspired postcards
Make inspired eco/cotton bags
Animate the drawing into playful (Segundo de Chomon inspired ) characters
Inspired colourful zines
Inspired poster
Add them into the video I am currently working on
However, I will continue working on the video before developing any of these ideas any further.

More research: Locals, Population
On my second visit to Milton Keynes I focused the locals and the population from the 1970s to present day. I was looking for inspiration to develop my existing work (or create new work).
