     The ginger hesitated for a moment before reaching out to rest a hand on Eleven’s shoulder. Squatting down to meet the brunette’s height, Meg gave a small smile in hopes of comforting the girl, “Take your time, I’ve got your back. I can run a demogorgon around for a little bit if you need me too. Just tell me what you need, okay?”

     It was quiet right now, almost eerily so. The athlete knew it wasn’t normal for a place to be this silent. Even now, the hair on the back of her neck stood on edge as she resisted the urge to look behind her. There was nothing there, surely Eleven would’ve reacted if something was.

“Oh yes, you definitely are.” Thera reaches to brush imaginary lint from his lapel. Is that a little bit condescending? Maybe, but not so much as it leans toward unfair. Regardless of the Doctor’s rambunctious ego - or egos, if a line can be drawn between his pride at his own brilliance or the one about his looks - there’s still nothing like a compliment to get him pleasantly derailed. “Very fine indeed!”

And it’s the derail she’s going for, even if in her defence it’s not a lie. He’s made the bow tie his his signature and also, though she’ll never tell him this part out loud, something of an art. A change of colour or fabric, or just the ensemble he adds around it, and it’s always a surprise.

But it’s a surprise in return she hopes will distract him for a second, at least make him pause enough to take a breath before they head out to ... what was it? Some soiree or other, but it’s supposed to be on the formal side and it might be better if he simmers down. For now, anyway.

Oh, good gods, it was alive - ! Maybe it was the result of watching too many movies, or from too many weird actual experiences, but Thera caught one glimpse of the new arrival and jumped back half a yard. Six foot tall, plush and lumbering - like Bear-nam Wood was coming to freaking Dunsinane!

It was only after that first second or so that she properly registered other small details; like the pair of long-fingered hands clutching the giant bear’s middle in an effort to steer it along, and the familiar voice huffing behind the fuzz when that steering didn’t quite go to plan.

“ … Doctor?” Cautious, because even if the bear wasn’t alive yet, you could never be too sure. “Is that you back there?”

Granted, this was a bit of a busy place. Cities often were, especially in the late afternoon on a Friday, when the blend of first-session theatre goers and workers skipping out early for the weekend mingled and met as one. It was the sort of moving, shifting, going-somewhere-else crowd that children got lost in, and groups trying to walk together were inevitably split up.

But all the same it was a surprise to suddenly have long, almost gangling fingers meet with hers, slip across and take hold. Thera hesitated, blinked, then chuckled and curled her hand around in return. “I can cross the road by myself you know, dad.”
