if i can say something controversial, though it really shouldn't be because this is only criticism, i think the show is treating sa/csa less as a subject in its own right and more as a narrative tool to elevate one relationship while discrediting another. it feels less like an exploration of abuse and more like fandom ship-war logic written into the text itself, which i find pretty tasteless.

i also struggle with the idea that victimhood automatically makes someone sympathetic. i can't really empathise with a perpetrator of patriarchal violence simply because he's a victim himself. victimhood isn't purifying, nor does it erase the harm someone inflicts on others. i'd like to think that's mostly a fandom reaction, but the interviews seem to be reinforcing that reading.
