You get to hear about my desire to subject Vetinari to medical experimentation/ experimentation in general (I just love experimentation whump) because you inspired me to play around with snapcase era Vetinari also you are part of what got me really into transmasc Vetinari (although in general I love making male characters I relate to transmasc). This idea is very much at the beginning of the planning process, so I'm sorry there is not a lot there. Like most of my ideas, this is quite dark:
So I think it would be fun to explore his aunt's and therefore his connection to the seamstress guild and from there came up with this idea of Vetinari after he came back from his grand sneer, but before Snapcase is assassinated, working under cover as tailor boy or a seamstress, if it's transmasc Vetinari he's in disguise as a seamstress and really uncomfortable about it but it’s safer for him because no one other than Madam, Sybil and then probably Rosie Palm and Sandra know that he's trans and not a cis man. I'm not sure if that concept would be uncomfortable/leaning into negative tropes or not, so that's why I'm not sure about it, although for me it's me playing around with my own experiences of being gender queer and not telling others and just letting them assume I'm a women and generally just the experience of having to hide that you are "not a girl" because it is unsafe for you to be "not a girl"
Anyways, the reasons he is under cover are a) to hide from Snapcase cause it's really not safe for him to be in the city and b) collect information and blackmail material for when he becomes Patrician.
While he's working under cover, he gets captured by Snapcase's men, but they don't know it's him, so instead of just straight up killing him, he is tortured and experimented on. I'm thinking that there's going to be like a rouge wizard working under Snapcase doing magical experiments on prisoners. Anyway, this guy takes a liking to Vetinari and starts using him as his primary test subject (now I am thinking how this is going to impact the time he got turned into a lizard). Then, because of the experimentation, Vetinari ends up with magic powers (I don't know the specifics of them yet, but I do know they will be painful to use and may have necrosis as a side effect of using them). previously, before the magic powers part came into my mind, if I was making Vetinari trans I had an idea of him being pregnant when captured and then having a miscarriage during his time in captivity but I am not sure if that would be too much. This can also partly be blamed on you, but I also just like pregnancy horror because I like the idea of having a kid (in my case I would want to adopt someday), but the idea of being pregnant terrifies me so inflicting that on fictional characters is fun.
Vetinari escapes somehow but is incredibly injured and is found by Rosie Palm, who takes care of him while he recovers.
Flash forward to Vetinari as Patrician, the guy who experimented on him, escaped after Snapcase's death, and now Vetinari has these powers that he tries to hide and avoid using because they are dangerous to both himself and others (they might end up being triggered by strong emotions).
I think the actual fic will occur after everything that occurs in cannon happens and start with the wizard guy returning to Ankh Morpork and recognizing Vetinari as his victim. (Maybe the bad guy will be able to control Vetinari, or maybe he will cause chaos in the city in otherways and Vetinari will have to deal with a shit ton of trauma he was chosing to not deal with) I have a lot backstory, but no plot yet.
I do know that it's obviously going to involve Vimes being overprotective of Vetinari and maybe Vetinari accidentally hurting someone he cares about with his powers. I was originally going to suggest Vimes or Drumknott, and then I realized how painful it would be if he accidentally hurt young Sam, so I will probably go with that. If I do add the miscarriage I think it would be fun to play around with how that impacts his relationship with young Sam.
Feel free to suggest stuff because I do need to come up with the actual plot.
