it's very Granddaughters of the Witches You Couldn't Burn(tm) and the research level for the historical parts is zilch, judging by the final text. I'm noping out to read Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy finally

(there weren't even Puritans in colonial Georgia! or very very few!)

if you want feminist historical fantasy about generations of witches, read the Physick Book of Deliverance Dane and its sequel, the Daughters of temperance Hobbs, instead

also an average American woman in 1953 wouldn't hear a stranger pray to "Goddess" over a meal and automatically assume she was a witch, which happens in the book I'm reading. the idea of witches worshipping a nameless goddess a la Wicca wouldn't enter the popular consciousness on that level until significantly later in the 20th century

there's no evidence that this is an alternate history, so...I'm still calling foul even though it's fantasy/horror
