the relationship between root and finch and the machine is so funny bc he’s the man who created an artificial superintelligence and root was like “that’s my god now” and also decided god uses she/her pronouns and also had an audio connection to god surgically implanted in her ear. and she is the prophet but also god is her boss and also her girlfriend in addition to her other girlfriend. she has a more ~intimate~ relationship with god than the man who created it, who god also refers to as her “father” but who he originally doesn’t want a personal relationship with. and also the creator of god and god’s prophet/girlfriend/interface are enemies when they first meet and she kidnaps him and sees his connections with people as weaknesses but then they’re allies and then hacker buddies and friends and things have changed and she realizes she cares for him and she can’t lose him she is what she once considered weak and he tries to kill himself so she won’t kill for him and also they dance together at a wedding because she’s lonely.
