I saw the tags on your clown circus Dnd game and Iām already intrigued (was it mostly because of the words āClownā āCircusā and āDndā being used together? Yes. But the Drama holy Shit!) can you explain more because now Iām invested and the game hasnāt even happened yet.

i can tell you whats really happening and give you all the spoilers or i can take you along for the ride. let me know what you want! and i can tag spoilers if thats something people are interested or not interested in reading.
for now, iāll just recap what happened in the first session since we had our first session yesterday! and then you can tell me what you want to know about.
the players: tallulah pinkerton the trophy wife: a human warlock sinclair the anarchist: aĀ halfling barbarian theren the runaway: a half elf bard
the first session was yesterday! it takes place in modern times in a small town called humdrum heights. it started with the mayor holding a ceremony to reopen the old decommissioned train tunnel to let coal back into their town. the mayor gave a little speech and sinclar (the anarchist player) was at the front of the crowd right by the stage holding a loud protest against the mayor and his reopening the train tunnel for coal. the mayor also mentions that there will be a vote on what to rename the town in two days, the options being coalton heights, coalgood heights, or (he mumbles close into the mic) a write-in option. the trophy wife (tallulah) was on stage with the mayor and she got to do the honors of cutting the ceremonial ribbon figuratively reopening the tunnel. then a big gust and rumbling happens and suddenly there is a mysterious circus train shooting out of the tunnel.
the trophy wife tries to take a picture of the moving train but she roles a poor dexterity saving throw (b/c the mayor is pulling her off the platform so they dont get hit) and the photo comes out blurry. i gave the player a film camera item that lets her take three photos a day that casts detect magic on whatever sheās taken a picture of.
there are flyers littering and flittering in the sky. the runaway player (theren) who used to be apart of the circus grabs a flyer and makes a good perception check roll and the flyer looks... wrong to him somehow. he swears, for a split second, he saw the clown lady on the flyer open her eyes and he swears her makeup was different (with a blue triangle above her eye and a yellow triangle below it), but it was a split second so maybe it was a trick of the eye (the camera has the same eye symbol as theren saw momentarily on the eye of the clown lady but none of them have made that connection yet, thatās okay, weāll get more into it later if they donāt notice early on).
they all go to the circus later that night. while waiting to get in, they over hear yoyo the animal caretaker asking if he can finally be a clown with his dad tonight. la capony the king of clowns says heāll never get to be a clown not if heās alive and kicking in this world.
the trophy wife asks one of the circus members if theres a vip seating area and she asks her what a vip is. all of the acts wear clown noses. some of them wear some clown make up but for the most part itās just the noses. fun antics ensue as they watch the acts. tallulah the trophy wife gets to have a public fortune telling b/c she volunteers for it. sheās told sheāll meet an old friend deep deep down but she rolls a good insight and can tell that the āold friendā is said with a tenderness and confusion that means the old friend is the fortune tellerās friend not hers. theren the circus runaway keeps making perception checks to see how old the beasts in the beast tamerās act are b/c he wants to know if he recognizes them (b/c heās trying to figure out if this is the circus he grew up in).
they come out of the tent and see that yoyo is dead. itās night time now so no one else notices. the trophy wife morally struggles with whether or not to take a picture of the dead body b/c she wants to see if there are any traces of magic on them. sinclair the anarchist sees the body and the trophy wife near it and follows her. tallulah the trophy wife takes the picture and sinclar the anarchist is appalled. the trophy wife messages her and explains she took the picture to see if theres any magic on him and tells her to be quiet. all the players see track marks, like a carriage was dragged off the train track and away, to the ringmasterās tent. theren the circus runaway heads home b/c he doesnt want to get pulled back into this mess b/c altho he doesnt remember much of his time in the circus he knows/figures he must have left for good reason.
tallulah the trophy wife tries to infiltrate the ringmasterās tent by pretending she thought it was the bathroom but he has snare casted so she gets caught and sinclair the anarchist pretends sheās drunk and not with tallulah the trophy wife (she rolls well enough that the ringmaster believes it) and doesnt help tallulah. and we ended the first session there!
