But what if he gave Tobias like, a single rose as a way to win favor to get to work with him, and Tobias being all like "what the hell am I supposed to do with this??" and the rose dying before the end of the day.

And then gave Tobias a single rose early in the relationship, and Tobias still not knowing quite what to do with it, but researches how to treat it, and end up keeping it alive for an impressively long time.

And then when they're more serious and move in together, they get a perennial together, and they both overwater it and gives it too much nutrition, but it still thrives.
