⋆⋆⋆ unlucky | naoya x you | jjk university au eventual cw for next part: mdni, 18+, bully to lovers, enemies to lovers, yandere, jealousy, possession, emotional abuse, noncon/dubcon wc: 3.5k premise: You're a first-year student at the University of Tokyo. During the first semester, Naoya relentlessly provoked and bullied you. From shoulder checking you in croweded hallways, cutting remakers and invading your personal space. It's been two weeks since the beginning of the second semester and he's yet to approach you... until now.
October, 2012.
Autumn has settled over Hongo Campus. Golden ginkgo leaves blanket the broad, tree-lined avenues, crunching softly beneath hurried footsteps as the murmur of lectures drifts from open windows.
You spot him immediately. The two impossibly high ponytails make him stand out from the crowd, he still reminds you of Garu from Pucca.
"Choso!"
Nothing. Of course. His headphones are in, an MP3 player tucked into his hoodie pocket as he wanders through campus, completely lost in his world.
"Seriously…" You jog after him, nearly slipping on a patch of ginkgo leaves before catching the sleeve of his oversized purple hoodie.
"Hey!" He startles, then relaxes the moment he sees you, pulling off his headphones. The cord falls loosely around his neck. "Sorry," he says with a sheepish smile. "I was distracted."
"I noticed." You laugh. "Did you forget?" His eyes widen. "…Lunch."
"It's okay. Come on." He gives you a small smile before falling into step beside you, following you toward your usual quiet corner of the quad, beneath one of the campus ginkgo trees.
An onigiri and a bottle of Calpis for you, an onigiri and iced green tea for Choso. Between bites, you compare your schedules and, Choso excitedly tells you about his younger brother Yuji, as students gather in scattered circles across the quad, enjoying the afternoon.
Then you notice him.
Naoya Zen'in.
Even from across the courtyard, he draws attention without trying. Flanked by two classmates and a small crowd trails after him, laughing a little too eagerly at whatever he says. His eyes meet yours.
Choso follows your gaze, his expression flattening immediately. "…Of course the rich asshole's looking over here."
"Is he still bothering you?" Choso asks, his voice edged with concern. "Last time he slammed into you so hard you dropped your-"
"It's fine, Choso," you interrupt gently. "He hasn't. I've barely seen him since the beginning of the second semester…"
"Anyway, I should get going. Thanks for keeping me company." You wave Choso goodbye. He returns the gesture with a small, timid smile before slipping his headphones back on and disappearing toward the Faculty of Letters building, music already drowning out the rest of campus.
You linger for a moment, glancing around the quad. No sign of Naoya.
A quiet sigh of relief escapes you. Thank God.
The walk to your next lecture is as scenic as ever. Somehow, autumn on Hongo Campus always makes you feel like becoming a better student.
The building soon comes into view. Along one wall, a row of vending machines hums quietly while a handful of students linger nearby, chatting over canned coffee.
Inside, you make your way upstairs to the second floor, heading for Lecture Hall 5. Then you slow down. Something feels… off. There aren't any students gathered outside. No conversations drifting through the door. No scraping chairs. No rustling bags. No textbooks thudding onto desks.
You step closer to the door, straining to hear something… anything. Silence. Frowning, you ease the door open and peek inside. Empty. Not a single student. Your heart sinks, your stomach tightening with it. "…What?" You mutter softly to yourself.
Had the room changed?
Did the professor send an announcement you somehow missed?
You mentally run through your timetable again.
No.
It's Monday. Professor Miyabe always teaches here on Monday afternoons. So… Where is everyone? Suddenly-- Hands clamp around your hips. You jolt forward with a startled gasp, instinctively twisting to see who dared touch you with such casual familiarity.
Naoya.
Fucking.
Zen'in.
The suddenness of the moment sends you stumbling fully into the otherwise empty classroom. Before you can regain your footing, the door clicks shut behind you. A second click follows, the unmistakable sound of the lock engaging, sealing the two of you inside. And the worst part? The unbearably smug look on Naoya's face. He's already looking at you as though the universe has handed him exactly what he wanted.
"Well," he drawls, taking an unhurried step further into the room. "Hello there, y/n."
You instinctively take a step back, never taking your eyes off him. Your heart has leapt into your throat, hammering against your ribs like a bird desperate to escape its cage.
"I don't really believe in luck." His smile widens. "Luck's for people looking to excuse their own weaknesses…"
Another slow step.
"But for once…" He tilts his head, amusement dancing in his eyes. "For the first time in my life …I think I've been blessed with a little of it."
