I do feel like one thing that's been lost in the narrative this year is that springer, gausman, and varsho are all in contract years. all three have seen a massive regression from what they were doing last year (maybe more like 2 years ago for daulton because of injury).

I just feel like it's so common for players to play horribly in the last year of their contracts, coupled with the fact that springer and gausman are closer to the end of their careers than the beginning. That kind of pressure is bound to mess with you and cause you to be in your own head about how your performance not only effects the current season, but also your future
