Yes we still intend to post our SEAsian Kaya essay when it's done. Have been avoiding the fandom for a while. So many of you are just so pedantic and white and wrong about her. Lmfao.
Got all good endings for Kaya and Flare and Lizzie and the other 2. Think all their stories suffer from pacing issues; Kaya's pacing being the least painful of the 4.
Leo was bawling at the Kaya ending. All her new lines in the relay, but especially That One Lotus line. Leo exploded and died so that's why I'm writing this post now. I'm sure they still have a lot to say about (and do with) Kaya once we're feeling better.
It goes without saying. We're very happy about Kaya. Incredible SEAsian rep.
Flare's email took us by surprise. It did make us tear up. We really enjoy Lizzie's quirks and mannerisms, we love that Flare and Kaya are friends, and the implications of that email are exhilarating. We are absolutely going back to the Orokin era. And we are already more excited for it than we have ever been for the entirety of the 1999 chapter.
Minerva and Velimir were such nothing characters to us. Maybe it's because they're white and straight and older and married but they did not strike any chords with us whatsoever. We went into all stories with an open mind (Leo likes to be all positive like that), but I feel like everything the writers intended just slid over our minds and nothing ever stuck. We like that Minerva is happy now, that's cute to see. But Velimir is so fucking grating to us. A white man who beats himself up like a child about his mistakes, being "sooooooo accepting" to the point he thinks pushing his daughter into the hands of a fascist "in the name of love" was a good idea. What a little shit. We met too many men like him to not roll our eyes at his personality.
Still got all good endings though. Call our dislike a lack of empathy, sympathy, whatever. But you don't need to feel good about someone to show them decency.
...At least. In theory. Jesus fucking christ, our enjoyment of the Drifter plummeted since 1999. I despised so many of their chat options during this round of KIM messages. They are so flimsily, inconsistently written. We never were interested in open-ended protagonists/self-inserts, and we don't even think Drifter works as a self-insert when they are clearly opinionated: we saw dialogue options that are just crude and needless.
Sure, they tell us about the Drifter's mental state and opinions, but they are so scattered across too many dialogue trees and I truly just cannot be arsed. They are just baffling to us. We really aren't inclined to treat them as anything other than "DE's playtoy and vehicle for romance with conventionally attractive Warframe people". And, personal bias here: I don't think we need to explain why a lesbian who does not want anything to do with men would be taken out of a ""self-insert romantic fantasy"" who expresses the want to date all 6 Hex members.
Well. That's a sour note to end on, isn't it? I don't really care. Now that 1999 is over (thank fuck) and Velimir is still a fictional character, we don't mind saying we'd love to smash his head over with a brick. Or with Hildryn's dumptruck ass. Whichever is funnier.
