The moment Kirishima spots Amajiki in the corridor, his entire face lights up in an impossibly wide grin, a hand quickly lifting in an exuberant wave to catch his senior’s attention. “ Ah— senpai! Hey, I’ve been looking for you! I gotcha something! ” He calls jubilantly as he approaches, reaching into his pocket to pull out a crumpled paper bag. Inside is a deep purple stress ball with the white outline of a butterfly branded into its surface that he’d happened to come across on his way back to the dorms from his internship one evening. It wasn’t too expensive, but finding the time to go out and buy it in between all that was going on is what proved most difficult.
Kirishima halts before his senpai, the small bag cupped within his hands. At first, he’s unsure how best to proceed. In the end, and unsurprisingly so, he finds himself blurting the first words which come to mind, “ I, uh, know you struggle with anxiety and after seein’ you like that... I wanted to do something to help, seeing as we’re sorta partners at the moment, y’know? ” Kirishima pauses, fiddling with the small package cradled carefully between calloused palms. His gaze slides off to the side and he hesitantly holds his gift out to his senior, all bravado vanishing from his tone as he continues to speak, “ My mom... She used to suffer from a lot of panic attacks after, uh... After a lot of stuff happened. ”
He blanches, sharp teeth snagging nervously at the inside of his cheek. Is he being insensitive by comparing Amajiki’s issues to those of his mother? The last thing he wants is to unintentionally make his senpai feel even worse. With an air of uncertainty, but no less determined to get his point across, Kirishima rushes to add, “ What I mean is— she’d always make sure to carry one of these around with her. It kept her hands busy, gave her something to focus on... I thought that maybe... You might like one to keep on you when you’re feeling bad, too...? ”
