1974 ad for Dinky Toys.
Model 690 - Scorpion Tank. This is the Alvis Scorpion, a light tank and armoured reconnaissance vehicle that had only recently come into service in 1973.
Model 1035 - Striker Anti-Tank Vehicle. This came from the same family of vehicles, Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked), as the Scorpion. They shared a lot of components and are visually similar.
Model 1045 - Panavia Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA). Better known now as the Panavia Tornado. It first flew in 1974 but did not come into service until 1979 and I think the illustration here is slightly different to how it ended up looking. I don't know who came up with the Tornado name but it was nicknamed the 'Tonka' by the RAF.
1974 ad for Airfix model kits:
Supermarine S.6B - Designed by R.J. Mitchell who went on to design the Supermarine Spitfire.
BAC-SUD Concorde - BAC stood for British Aircraft Corporation and SUD was Sud Aviation. Concorde first flew in 1969, began commercial flights in 1976 and was retired in 2003.
Cutty Sark - still on public display at Greenwich, London.
H.M.S. Manxman - launched in 1940 and broken up (scrapped) in 1973.
Republic F-84F Thunderstreak - Entered service in the US in 1954, it retired from the USAF in 1964 but was still flown by National Guard units into the early 70's.
The Cobra Night Attack Jeep. It came with the Night Attack Driver figure and was part of the Action Force Series 3 releases in 1985. The art is by José Gonzalez and is from Battle Action Force No. 540, dated 7 September 1985.
Battle Action Force No. 540, dated 7 September 1985. Death in South America art by John Cooper. Treasury of British Comics.
A bit of a grim ad for a free action figure. The Action Force Infantryman art is by Garry Leach and was produced around the time he also drew several 3D Action Force ads in 1985. Don't know that this one ever appeared in 3D though. This figure was based on the GI Joe figure Grunt and appeared in Series 3 of the UK Action Force line in 1985.
Warlord No. 572, dated 7 September 1985. Union Jack Jackson cover by Ian Kennedy.
