It’s been such a lovely, relaxed weekend. I spent a good chunk of time Saturday morning playing with Pep, rolling a ball back and forth, and watching him (safely) explore the living room and kitchen. He wound up pulling apart a pack of his swim diapers from over the summer, so I made him wear one as a hat. 😁 He’s now able to get around at a full crawl, which means baby proofing is in full swing! I’ve got locks on all the cabinets and had to move a bunch of stuff off of low shelves that he can get into now. There’s still more to be done, but it’s a start. I’m also realizing we have to be way better now about vacuuming and keeping the floors free of even the tiniest bits of whatever that he can find and stick in his mouth. Gah!
I made pep a big batch of broccoli and potatoes which he is absolutely loving, and another few batches of roast beef, chicken, and butternut squash. It’s a never-ending cycle for me in the kitchen, but I enjoy it. I’m trying to work more finger foods into his day - he’s getting pretty good with them! So far we’ve done little bits of whole wheat bread, cheese, Cheerios, squished blueberries, and prepared baby foods like teething crackers and puffs. I just read an article that all the major brands (gerber, earth’s best, happybaby, etc) were found as recently as this year to have high levels of heavy metals in their foods, including these crackers and puffs. We’re talking arsenic, cadmium, lead... not great. Is there no baby food that is “safe”?! So ridiculous that there aren’t standards for baby food similar to regular foods. If anything, shouldn’t there be more stringent standards for foods made for these tiny babies with developing bodies and brains?? The FDA is dropping the ball.
Sunday was rainy here, so it was mostly spent relaxing and staying indoors. Monday I had off of work and it was a picturesque day, so we headed out for a little hike. It was great to get outside and enjoy some of this cool fall weather. Pep enjoyed himself and wanted to touch all the leaves and trees, and put all the leaves directly into his mouth, of course.
This week is a short week thanks to Columbus Day, and it also means my first week commuting back to the office once a week. New York passed something called the HERO Act, which limits the number of people that can be present in offices for now, so we’re limited to one day per week in the office, per person. I’m cool with that! My day will be Thursdays for now, and I gotta say, right now I’m not feeling nearly as anxious as I would normally expect. I’ll take that. Here’s to a good week ahead!
