Random thoughts:
I know they want fans to move on from Jay leaving, so there were only a few comments about it at the beginning of the episode, but it felt weird that we saw very little reaction about it from these characters that have worked with him for 10 years! Especially from Hailey. The exception is Hailey’s, in my opinion loaded, response to Torres that “people are a lots of things. You might not know her as good as you think you do.” Is this an example of where her mind is right now regarding Jay?
Even before we are given any backstory, you get a sense of just how much Provi meant to Torres simply through the panic and anguish in his voice when he calls in the scene.
During the confrontation between Torres and Diaz in the park, Kevin pretty much stands back and observes. Every time the camera catches his face during the exchange you can tell he is learning something new about Torres, and that he likes what he is learning.
One of my favorite things about Chicago PD is how they utilize the city of Chicago and it’s neighborhoods, with the narrow alleys and side streets. So I really liked the walk and talk scene in the alley with Voight, Kevin, and Torres. I feel using these locations gives the show a real authenticity.
Shout out to Mia for calling Torres out about only owning white T-shirts. Are the writers reading all the fan speculation about them? 😉The way he avoids commenting on it makes me wonder if there is a story behind why he only wears them. Or maybe I’m reading too much into it
It’s going to be interesting to see if Torres can learn to ask for help and rely on the other members of unit. He is obviously use to taking care of things by himself. I did like that Torres got mad at Kevin for covering for him with Voight, and that he is the type to own up to his own mistakes.
Loved the lighting in the interrogation room scene with Voight and Torres. When Voight stood in the corner in his black shirt about the only thing you saw in the light were his crossed forearms - one of his best features 😉
I thought Torres’s cross tattoo on his back was a nice touch to symbolize him having a literal “cross to bear.” We know from last season’s episode that he put his step-father in a wheel chair for beating his mother, and it seems that ever sense he has felt it’s his duty to help those who can’t help themselves. How much does this “cross” weigh him down?
Well, damn. That’s some major rage Torres unleashed on Diaz at the end of the episode. Is it all a release of the anger he feels because he couldn’t help Mia’s brother get a better deal, because it felt like there was more to it than that. It’s very interesting that only the viewers are a witness to this side of Torres and not the rest of the unit. This one scene made me even more intrigued to see where they go with this character. Also couldn’t help but draw some parallels to Voight and his willingness to do whatever it takes to protect those he cares about. I can’t wait for more in-depth interaction between them.
I miss the episodes where it felt like it was more about the entire team than individual team members. Not that I haven’t enjoyed these episodes, I just wish they would throw in some team-centric episodes from time to time. However, if they are going to continue with the character focused episodes they need to at least do one centered around Trudy!
1) I really can’t ever get over Hotch being in Louis ties.
2) It’s the way TG is also sick in this episode that just makes it better.
