Happy Anniversary New Who!
Ahhh...Rose. The episode that started it all for me back in 2005. I had never heard of this show before. I was ignorant of its existence. That was until my mum and dad told me I couldn’t go out and play, as we were going to be watching a show together as a family (they were massive fans when they were younger). I threw a tantrum. I sulked and moaned. But slowly that frown turned to a huge grin as those spine-tingling titles played out, and as Rose appeared on screen, and then as the Doctor grabbed her hand and whispered “Run”. And I ran with him; the Doctor (and the show) stole my heart and has held it ever since.
This show means more to me than any other. When I first started watching this show I didn't have many friends at all. I wasn't in the best place mentally and I was a really sad child. But this show literally changed my life. Even when times were hard during high school and there were moments when I wanted to do something so stupid and reckless, the show gave the willpower and the drive to keep fighting. It gave me a reason to keep going to see the next Saturday, and the next, and the next, and the next. It made me confident in myself, more accepting of my own sexuality. It even introduced me to some of the best friends I've ever had and will stick with me for life. This is more than just a show to me: Doctor Who is my life. I love it, and always will do.
So thank you to RTD, to Julie Gardner, to Billie Piper, to Eccleston, to Gold, to everyone working behind the scenes and the BBC...thank you for bringing back this wonderful show, and for changing my life for the better :)
We’re back! And it’s about time... To celebrate ten years since the series came back, we’ve produced a special episode looking back at ‘Rose’!
