Week 37, Day 253.

I am just over 100 days away from the end of my first year! Gulp. This means I only have 112 days to finish my literature review, re-learn ‘R’, learn MATLAB, refresh my statistical knowledge, organise and analyse a bunch of data, report the findings, present a poster at a conference, attempt to arrange sampling with each water company, and write my confirmation report. Oh, and pass my first year. Gah. Besides the “written” work I have to visit all of the companies again, attend meetings, and complete a challenge week with STREAM. In my personal life, I also have two birthdays to attend (both far away from where I live), visit my family in Russia, and find time to sleep. :’) Lord give me strength, or the money for red bull, either will do. Anyway, I’ll manage somehow, I always do. 

My conference poster has now been reviewed by my other two supervisors, who only gave me minor corrections. Yay. Therefore, I should be able to complete the final draft by the end of the day and submit it for review to the conference organisers. I have several packs of sushi to get me through today, so I feel ready to ace this.  I have been away for the last 5 days, and, as always, it has thrown me off a bit. I am desperately trying to get into a routine this month, which, although busy, has me at home for most of it. Unfortunately, in July I am only here for 11 days... so that’s gonna be challenging. But, August is looking almost completely empty, something I desperately need with my confirmation review coming up in the first two weeks of September (we haven’t set a date yet).  Anyway, enough about the tedious stuff. As I mentioned in my previous post, the reason I was away was to attend two beautiful weddings. The first was at Clearwell Castle, a gorgeous venue in the Forest of Dean. My partner was best man at this wedding, and because of this both of us were utterly exhausted, overwhelmed, and exhilarated by the end. It was such a big deal, that I even had my hair professionally styled at a hairdressers; something that happens once in a blue moon! We had a day in between the two weddings, and, as we were already in the area, we made a trip to the Clearwell Caves, and Puzzlewood. Both were absolutely magical, and I urge anyone to visit if they get the opportunity. The second wedding was a 4 hour drive away, at Normanton Church on Rutland Water; a picturesque, pristine, and stunning reservoir owned and maintained by Anglian Water (one of my project sponsors). Seems like I can’t escape work, even if I try. :P The wedding was emotional, and heartfelt. For us, it was also a little more relaxed as we were simply grateful guests, rather than direct participants. We stayed in the Best Western hotel the night before, with a beautiful view overlooking the water. It’s hard to stay stressed in that setting. I have put up a few photos below of some of these places.  As breathtaking and head spinning the last few days have been, I have been desperately homesick. Despite my love of adventure, I am, from the bottom of my heart, extremely tired of being all over the place, which probably comes from me being an extroverted introvert. I appreciate how extraordinarily lucky I am with my life, but I am also bloody glad to be home/in the office.
