Threat Outweighing Safety
Right now, the people are the one who control the planet earth. Not because we’re the toughest, fastest or largest, but because we’re the smartest. If we are no longer the smartest, are we certain to keep on in control? Artificial intelligence today is suitably known as a weak AI, meaning it is designed to perform a narrow task just like the facial recognition on your phone, searching in the web, using google maps or google self-driving cars and simple autonomous weapons. However Artificial intelligence technology is progressing rapidly it may just only take a few decades for the researches to achieve the strong AI level.
What will happen if the quest for the strong AI succeeds and the AI system will become greater than humans at all intellectual mission? An AI system can be improve that can possibly surpass the human intellect. If a superintelligent AI is made it can be a potential life-saving tool that will help to cure diseases and it will also help to remove human to human warfare and poverty. But Stephen Hawking warns that AI can threaten the humanity.
An AI can be beneficial but it is not certain that it will not bring threat. AI is so useful in the economy but what if a cheap AI labor will replace human labor and worsen the economic inequality between business owners and human laborers. In the field of medicine, the hospitals someday an AI will diagnose your cancer and a robot will perform the surgery not the real doctors anymore.
AI work because of algorithms that is programed to them by their creator, this algorithms will allow the robot to identify an animal. There is a husky with a snow background and a robot mistaken it as a wolf. What do you think did the robot see causing its mistake? The answer is the snow on its background since wolf are living in the cold places and a husky looks like a wolf. And what if that robot is programed to kill a wolf if he found one? That would be so tragic. And algorithms also allow robots to copy perception, it degrade what it means to be a human. A self-aware and self-evolving machine could challenge humans for critical resources.
Sophia is the first robot that is granted with citizenship. One of the most honourable concepts for a human being is to be a citizen and all that bring with it but it has been given to a machine. In the future she might not be the only one. There are risk if we grant citizenship to a robot. Legal rights, if Sophia is a citizen then she needs to vote but who will make the decision on voting day? Sophia or the manufacturer? Since Sophia is a citizen is she allow to marry or breed? Breed by replicating itself by using 3D printing technologies and these would be also become a citizen. And what if there is no law on how many robots they could have, maybe they could have a greater population than human and they will become smarter than humans and rule the world. Suddenly if that happen the humans could find themselves in a place they hadn’t imagined.
