I’ve been so impatiently waiting for the results of my NIPT results. I’ve been checking my patient portal every day, then once the labs were put in, I started checking multiple times a day to see if the results were in yet. It’s so weird that I was this impatient this time around, because with Lily, we didn’t find out she was a girl until the anatomy scan at almost 20 weeks, so knowing this early is so crazy to me.

But, everything is healthy. Came back negative for every genetic disorder they test for. Which is a huge relief. I never expected a positive result since I’m super low risk anyway, but it’s still nice to know everything is still going well.

And, now that the results are in, we now know what we’re having...

A BOY! 💙

I can’t believe it. I’m so excited. My husband is literally jumping up and down with excitement to have a son. I don’t know what I’m going to do with a boy, but I’m so excited.

I’ve felt really strongly since literally before I even confirmed the pregnancy that this baby is a girl. I had a similar feeling for most of my pregnancy with my son that he was a boy, so there’s precedent for my gut being right. Also, when we tried to think of names for him (at that point gender unknown), we never really found a girl name that felt right to me - we chose one that we were hypothetically going to use, but it never clicked for me as strongly as the boy name that we actually gave him. This time around I’m having the same but opposite - I have a girl name that feels very right and really haven’t been able to find a boy name that’s doing it for me.

But I’m a bit nervous to lean into this feeling because if I start thinking of the baby as [chosen girl name] and then it turns out when it’s born that I was wrong, it’s going to be really weird and jarring to suddenly have a boy with a different name. It’s not even that I davka want a girl; honestly I think there would be a lot of pros to having another boy (we’ve got all the clothes and they should be close enough to the same season for each size; we'll learn all the boy lifecycle and school stuff and so on with my son and then won’t have to start from scratch with the next kid; etc). I just think it is a girl.

Lots to catch up on.

So two days ago I stopped having unisom every night and I REGRET EVERYTHING ‘IM SO NAUSEOUS ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

I have an appointment on Monday to listen to the heartbeat, excited for that!

Last week on Tuesday I had some blood drawn for CellFree, a test that looks for chromosomal abnormalities (well, a screening tool, not a test, but semantics). I chose it instead if the NT scan because, well, I don’t really need another ultrasound and cellfree is more accurate anyway.

On Tuesday I got a call from the genetic counselor to hear that yes! Everything is fine, and also, they found Y fragments in my blood stream.

Y fragments?

That’s right! It’s a boy! Baby Harrison is coming into the world to the absolute joy of his dad, mom, and big sister. Melody is so excited.

I decided to treat myself today, but it meant I had to go grocery shopping. I’ve been so exhausted lately that just the thought of dealing with the grocery store after work has worn me out. But, I’ve been craving a BLT all weekend, and after the weekend I had, I was gonna have it. The grocery store also had strawberries on sale. I’m completely satisfied. (Although I wish I could stop burping.)

I haven't had chocolate since my BFP cause it makes me sick! My husband bought me an Easter egg and said I should save it for when my sweet tooth comes back. And my sister in law has given me one. It's really confusing to not want something you've loved your whole life! I do miss my sweet tooth but I wouldn't mind if it stayed away for the rest of my pregnancy. Would make avoiding gestational diabetes easier!

Pains

If I have another child after this one, I can't wait to actually know what the f&@$ is going on the second time I'm pregnant. For this first one, it just seems like it will be 9 months of not knowing if pains are normal or not and low key freaking out every day. I trust you, body. You got this.

Our little decided to keep its hand over its face the whole visit so we couldn't really get a good read on the features but it was a breath of relief to watch the flicker of the heart and the little wiggles. We have a sleepy babe atm <3 I've pretty much accepted it will be a boy now buuuuuut the name struggle is real. We're at such a loss when it comes to agreeing, however our girl name is set in stone. Le'sigh. Either way this little is so entirely loved.
