This #snowbunny is actually quite excited for the second snow of the year. If only, you could take a sick day for fresh powded.... I mean maybe? Ski season is upon us and I couldnt be more stoked. I've been skiing since I was a tiny tot-- thanks mom and dad!-- so it's kind of like riding a bike each year. There is muscle memory involved and an ease that comes with years of practice. Even though all this is true, I still train for ski season! Seriously. I find a lot of people are skeptical of skiing and even convinced that skiing alone is bad for your knees. I seriously had one old coworker say to me "you're seriously going on a week long ski trip. What a bad example you are setting for your patients, skiing is so bad for your knees." Say whaaat?!?! Let's put the record straight. Skiing is not inherently bad for your knees. Yes, you can get hurt or seriously injured skiing. Yes there are risks. I find more people are getting injured skiing because more people have the opportunity to ski. These people then go skiing without and preparation or training and then get hurt and blame skiing. Let me ask you a question, would you run a marathon without training? Would you play a full lacrosse game without picking up a stick? Would you enter the PMC without riding more than 5 miles on your bike? Probably not. So why would you start skiing without prepping your kind and body for it? Skiing is a sport. One of my favorites, so I might be a little biased, but it's a sport and should be treated as such. Take necessary precautions (ahem just rent the damn helmet for 30 extra bucks), train for it and properly warm up. Want to ski this year and actually train for it? You're in luck. I created a 4 week online program to prep for ski season-- Want in? Drop me a DM and I'll send you the info! ---------- #12daysoffitmas is starting THIS FRIDAY. 12 days of different exercises: strength, mobility and cardio. All routines under 30 minutes so you can get shit done and enjoy the holiday season. A little #mobilitymonday for your calves. All you need is one ball and a block. You can definitely do it without a block, just more force and less awkwardness with the block! Sound on for some good gems. A little rundown: 1. Grab a one all-- I use #yogatuneup balls and for this one alternate between the alpha, OG or plus. It depends on how sore my calves feel or how big your calves are. 2. Start with ball on block 3. Place calf on ball 4. Play and roll! You can roll up and down. You can just hold with breathe. You can roll side to side. As usual, no right and wrong here. Just you, breathing in your body, creating awareness and connection. Give it a roll and let me know what you think! -------------- Surprise! This video is a sneak peek of my #12daysoffitmas and is part of a longer lower leg mobility sequence. Want more? So everyone is deep the throes of the Holiday season. There is gift giving, holiday parties, holiday cookies, chocolate, alcohol and all sorts of fun. I am not immune to these things and I honestly don’t know anyone who is. And if you think you are, you are probably lying to yourself. Or you are 10 seconds from a big ole holiday binge. Either way, it’s the holiday season and if you ask me, it is freaking AMAZING! Yes, it is rather indulgent and a little lavish but it is also cozy and warm and joyous. I don’t know about you but there is something about twinkly lights that just makes me feel good. Regardless of if you are loving this time of year or hating it, you are probably feeling it. I speak to so many people who say something along the lines of : “Ugh I need to burn these cookies off.” OR “I want to jumpstart my fitness routine but it is totally not worth it right now, I will just wait until all these parties are over.” OR “I can’t wait for the New Year to get back into a good routine.” To that I say, WHY WAIT? Why are you waiting to feel good in your body? Why are you waiting to do the things you want to do, to make the changes you want to make? Side Note: This is NOT to say you NEED to burn off that cookie or you have to sweat out the alcohol. IF that is the only reason you want to start working out, I’d encourage you to dig a little deeper and to be a little kinder to yourself. I’d also guess that exercise is not going to make you feel better about that cookie or glass of champagne. Believe me, I’ve been there. Exercising to punish yourself does not stick. It doesn’t feel good and you don’t see the physical or mental effects of exercise. Want to jumpstart your fitness? Join my 12 days of fitmas!! FREE challenge.
