one of Steve's parents is politician, I believe, they both sort of ignore him until it can benefit them. Steve was pretty seriously injured and is being celebrated as a hero so they swoop in for a press conference or event being thrown for Steve, when he's due to be released from the hospital. He has trouble really facing the fact that his parents don't actually care about him, he's in denial about it and makes excuses for them. Eddie really makes him see it for what it is especially since they leave right after the ceremony, and don't bother looking into how he will continue healing at home. this was on ao3.
