Margarita of Austria, Queen consort of Spain by Juan Pantoja de la Cruz, 1607

"Dear #1607
I'm a huge glazer and defender for Good For Your Soul. But I have to say I'm very open minded to this experience. During my first listen, there were a couple of songs that did not stick to me (fill the void, pictures of you, little guns), but after a couple of listens I start to notice things about them. I want to say that Good For Your Soul isn't really a one-time listen kinda album and that probably doesn't make it any better than how you see it now but this is just from my personal experience.
The thing that makes a lot of Oingo Boingo songs with strange lyrics good isn't just the lyrics but also the musical arrangements and instrumentals. For example, I actually used to hate Grey Matter, believe it or not. But after watching the live show and seeing them perform, I started noticing sounds I've never noticed before on my first listen (also after learning the lyrics, I noticed how interesting the song really was).
I was the same way with Pain when I first heard the lyrics. I thought it was so silly that I should just skip it. Like the lyrics "soak up pain like a sponge..." Threw me off really bad on my first listen and I labelled that song to be a bad song. But after a while it ended up being my favourite Boi-Ngo song after I paid more attention to the lyrics, heard the chorus and listened closely to the little sounds in the song. There were a LOT of songs I didn't like back because I wasn't paying much attention to it,, but a lot of them ended up to be my favourites (I can list every single OB song I used to hate on my first listen but then we'd be here for a while)
What I'm trying to say is that sure Good For Your Soul is a mixed bag but it's the little things,, little details in the sounds, as well as the interesting themes they talk about (nerdy horror movies, nerdy books, religion, nightmares, war and SWEAT) makes the album so so special to me.
If you still don't like Good For Your Soul then that's okay, actually it's completely fine. Everyone should be allowed to hate and love whatever they like. However I'm just sharing my personal experience with the album. I hope the rest of your listening experience with Oingo Boingo is terrific."

Seven Works of Mercy (detail), 1607, by Caravaggio
The anthology comic Action Comics 274 was published with a cover date of March 1961. In the "Superman: The Reversed Super-Powers!" segment, Superman invited Lois Lane to cover an experiment to cure his weakness to Kryptonite. The experiment appeared to fail robbing Superman of his powers and giving them to Lois. Now that he was finally a regular man, Superman agreed to marry Lois. Lois was afraid it wouldn't work between them with only one of them having super powers. When Superman appeared to be dying, he revealed he was actually the Superman robot Z and had taken it upon himself to see if she only loved Superman for his powers. In the "Supergirl: Supergirl's Three Time Trips" Supergirl (Linda Lee) travelled in time to help with a class assignment. She visited 1885 to visit Annie Oakley, 1776 to meet Betsy Ross, and 1607 to see Pocahontas. All three places she had to leave because she encountered Kryptonite. The Kryptonite had traveled through time when it had been caught in an H bomb explosion. When she learned her class mates were going to write about those three figures, she decided to do her report on Joan of Arc.
