Thoughts on Grey’s Anatomy: 16X06
Just finished watching the new episode of Grey’s Anatomy! I love the themed episodes and this week's Halloween one was great! I'm glad that they're finally addressing Zola's dislike of DeLuca and how even when he tries he can't connect with Mer's kids because they straight up don't like him, he has no idea what he's doing, and he's not step dad material.
It also seems pretty clear to me that DeLuca and Mer are over as he volunteered to help out with the kids all day, it went horribly, and afterwards Mer choose to go make a phone call and didn't even say Hi to him. Meredith's not into it and she's not interested and no matter how hard DeLuca tries he just doesn't fit in with the rest of the family. I think the fact that Maggie and the kids call him Dr. DeLuca instead of Andrew and no one seems to like him pretty much tells you everything you need to know about DeLuca and his and Meredith's relationship.
I love that Jo repurposed her wedding dress for her Halloween costume and kept trying to scare Alex in a fun joking way! I love them together! The storyline about Pac North being haunted because it's partially built on a mass grave comprised of psych patients that were buried on the property was fun to watch! Alex handled it really well and it was nice to see him, Jo, Owen, and Richard work together. I'm so happy that Alex and Jo got remarried for real this time! The look on Alex's face when Jo lied and said she was pregnant cracked me up!
Jo knows how Alex feels she just likes to have fun! I love that about her character. I also love that they got remarried dressed as a corpse bride and a vampire! They really are made for each other. I also loved how Jo told Alex she was pregnant to scare him for fun and at first Alex was terrified but then thought about it for a minute and said that it wasn't scary because he loves kids and he loves her. I love that the show is self aware enough about all the pregnancy storylines this season to have Jo throw in a zinger for both Alex and the audience. A+
I'm glad we got to see more depth from Koracick this episode! Poor Bailey is not having a good pregnancy! I love that Amelia was there to help and support her. I liked that they showed Meredith checking her privilege when she realized what her cell mate was going through and that she helped her out in the end. In other news, Link's parents are absolute monsters! First, they put Link through hell, then they get back together, then they make his cancer free anniversary all about them, and then they get upset over Amelia's due date conflicting with their wedding plans!
It was fun to watch someone else be a hot mess and have Amelia comfort Link. For once she wasn't the one blurting things out and accidentally making a mess of things. It was a nice change. The storyline about Zola being pissed at DeLuca for touching her fairy wings because they're the ones that Derek sewed for her broke my heart! The episode where Derek sewed Zola's wings was so sweet! It's no wonder Zola misses her Dad and with her Mom away in jail and doing community service it makes sense that she's upset and acting out.
On top of that DeLuca is not step dad material in any way, shape, or form. He clearly doesn't know what he's doing and kids pick up on that right away. They always do. It's also pretty clear that Meredith doesn't care to include DeLuca in things involving the kids because they're not that serious and he doesn't get it so the kids are going to respond to that. I'm glad Bailey, Teddy, and Tom were able to save their patient.
Teddy dressing the kids up as zombies made me laugh! The fact that Owen brought Teddy the handmade costumes his Mom made him and Megan growing up to save everyone time and then Teddy took it as him shaming her for being a bad mom says a lot about their relationship. Owen wasn't shaming Teddy and didn't expect her to sew handmade costumes. He was just trying to help. These two really suck at relationships it seems.
One odd thing about this episode was that no point was it stated where Harriet was and what Jackson was doing as a parent for Halloween! Also, I love that Jackson's big advice to DeLuca was to just talk to kids to find out what's wrong. That seems kind of obvious to me and the fact that it didn't even occur to DeLuca to do that really sums up the situation nicely. I loved Schmitt's scene with the little boy! For most of the episode all Schmitt wants to do is put on his D&D costume and go meet Nico and instead he gets roped into throwing a Halloween party for the Peds ward and helping this little boy find a Halloween costume.
I loved how Schmitt brought the boy every macho Halloween costume under the sun and then the boy said he wanted to be a sunflower! My heart! In the end Schmitt realizes that being at the hospital and helping the kids out is what's really important so he makes himself and the boy sunflower costumers BY HAND! To cap it all off Nico shows up at the end dressed as a Vampire and everyone has a good time! I also loved that Schmitt chose to post the photos of him and Nico regardless of what his Mom said because he wanted to share the joy and he realized that being happy and sharing that was what was most important.
Now onto next week's promo! Maggie's got jokes as Richard's family comes to town and Kelly McCreary's real life sister stars in next week's episode! Fun! Amelia finally decides to tell Owen that she's pregnant and apparently they redecorated the kids' playroom because the room behind Amelia looks completely different than it did the last time we saw it. Catherine finally comes back to town and it looks like stuff with Gemma comes to the surface.
Also, Owen totally flips out about his ex-wife having kids with someone else as if that's a normal thing to do. Owen appears to be acting as if Amelia didn't want kids with him. She didn't at first because of what happened with Christopher and because she was sick, but then they adopted Leo and took in Betty. Also last I checked Amelia and Owen are still co-parenting Leo and he's supposedly happy with Teddy and Allison so I'm not sure what he's mad about here.
Why is Owen also such an asshole to everyone? Especially the women in his life? Also, if Owen is truly happy with Teddy he shouldn't be having a meltdown over the fact that Amelia is having a child with Link. It's none of his business and if he truly loves Teddy what does it matter? Just when I think Owen Hunt couldn't be more of an asshole he becomes one. Jeez louis. Until next time!
