🚨 DDBA SPOILERS/PREDICTIONS 🚨
I don’t think Vanessa is dead, but she gonna be in another coma or messed up for sure, and Kingpin is unhinged without his Queen
Also, I know she didn’t want to be sidelined, but I wonder if (based on her change of heart in wanting to escape the life the last few episodes) if she went in on purpose because a part of her wanted to die/get out. After all, like the Governor said, Vanessa could have done this all on her own.
Plus…Karen is gonna get taken, Matt is going to fall apart, and that’s when Jessica is gonna come in and shit gonna get LIT
I think that in fact Matt does hear Foggy’s voice speak to him, everyday, over and over. Only unlike Frank’s son it’s the final words Foggy ever spoke to him; “Maybe I just didn’t want to give you an excuse.”
So they’re a pair of opposites; Frank can’t stop, and Matt’s barely hanging on in order to honor the memory of Foggy.
To me, Matt’s not only in denial, he’s chosen a new suit to use to become the new role he feels he must don in order to pay penance for failing Foggy in—his heart—the only way that mattered; he role of what Matt Murdock was supposed to be; successful lawyer and man working within the system to help people. He flirts, he dates, but on some level it’s still a tactic of survival. It was the only way to carry Foggy with him beyond yet another memorial card stamped in Braille.
Elektra was one thing, Foggy was everything.
That’s why he tossed Dex off the roof in that moment. There was no Kitchen to save without Foggy, there was no home left anymore, there was nothing left stopping Matt from crossing that line.
As he said in Season Two—Foggy was the heart of Nelson and Murdock— and as of the beginning of this arc, that heart stopped beating.
That’s why I love the shot of Matt returning to an empty courtroom like a church. It’s where he felt closer to Foggy than anywhere else in the world short of Hell’s Kitchen. It’s the closest he’d ever come to being Home again. And in his hands he holds the horn off his helmet (another long symbolic rant for another post) that he treats as his new rosary. Forever with him, a reminder of a connection that he had faith in but that in which was lost.
Only to be Born Again.
If anything happens to Merv in the Merv movie—I will be highly pissed off
