Battle Action cover dated 19 August 1978. Both images on the cover came from interior art in that issue - Samurai by Carlos Cruz and Crazy Keller by Eric Bradbury. As can be seen below a bit of 'eye shadow' was placed around the main character's eyes for the cover.

I'm intrigued as to the belt buckle and whether Japanese soldiers were known to wear things like that. I know some had what was called the senninbari or belt of a thousand stitches which would often be adorned with the image of a tiger. I think this was more akin to a strip of cloth rather than what looks like a leather belt and buckle.

It's out of this world!

Classic Ian Gibson illustration of Sam Slade, Robo-Hunter (with Cutie and Kidd) for 2000A.D. prog 78. The image itself is actually from the last panel of the strip in prog 79. You can just about make out that Sam was still allowed to be shown with a cigar at this point.

I loved this first Robo-Hunter story which is now known as either 'Verdus' or 'Planet of the Robots'. I don't think the strip reached these heights again.

This issue had the Ant Wars 'newspaper' cover. Good cover but I remember nearly missing it at the newsagents and I wonder if sales might have dipped that issue?
