Battle Action cover dated 19 August 1978. Both images on the cover came from interior art in that issue - Samurai by Carlos Cruz and Crazy Keller by Eric Bradbury. As can be seen below a bit of 'eye shadow' was placed around the main character's eyes for the cover.

I'm intrigued as to the belt buckle and whether Japanese soldiers were known to wear things like that. I know some had what was called the senninbari or belt of a thousand stitches which would often be adorned with the image of a tiger. I think this was more akin to a strip of cloth rather than what looks like a leather belt and buckle.

While not on exhibit currently, this artefact has been included in our Ring of Fire exhibit (WWII Pacific conflict).

Known as a Senninbari, or a Thousand-Stitch Sash, it was a Japanese and Shinto tradition. Given to soldiers as a symbol of luck, they were predominantly made by a female family member. Each stitch was set in by various people, usually as the woman making the sash would travel the town. Elegant sashes were made from silk with soft thread, though many were made from cotton.
