It is amazing some of the things that are going on in the UK this week. We are seeing history made each day, ceremonies that have existed for 400 years that are televised for the first time. Over the last couple of days most of us have seen the crown of Scotland for the first time in our lifetimes.

Now the sheer size of the funeral is becoming apparent. Our own Royal Family, who are related to most of the remaining European royal families. The American President, I assume the French President, the Emperor of Japan, the President of Israel. It is fair to assume that we will see representatives of all the Commonwealth countries. Multiple heads of states and monarchs from around the world. It will be a spectacle to be seen to be believed.

However at the same time there is this very human element. The amount of ex military who have queued to see the coffin because they wanted to pay their respects to “the boss”.

The village close to Balmoral was flooded around a decade ago and residents recall how she contacted people in the village who were effected, as the insurance companies were dragging their feet. She told people “If you think it will help you can mention my name. Tell them I’m following the situation closely”.

Her personal piper returned to work after his wife had been diagnosed with cancer, and when she found out she told him to go home “family first Pipes” was her response, nickname and all.

She once drove Sir Jackie Stewart to a BBQ, refused his offer to drive. However she then told her “people” she would be attending his 80th Birthday Party, after they had declined the invitation.

My favourite though is the story of two American tourists who met her and her security officer whilst walking in Scotland. As they were close to Balmoral the Americans asked “have you ever met the Queen?” Her quick response was “no, but he has” pointing to her security.

It is hitting home that the world will decend on London to bury her, however at the heart of it she was a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother and a decent human being who was no one’s fool!

2000th Post / First Day of Summer 2020 I. Exactly 1992 days ago, I started my Instagram account (January 8, 2015). I somehow managed to create more posts than days went by. To all my followers and the users who gave me at least one like or comment, I wanna say Thank You.
