Robert Sugden: Karl Davies (2003)
So, er… what you think about Andy and Katie? Do you think they’ll stay the distance? (Part 2.2)
I certainly hope so.
Diane puts Robert and Katie on cake duty, putting on candles on it. Jack and Diane talk about about their first loves (Alice and George respectively) and whether Andy and Katie will have staying power. Off on their own, Robert and Katie light them candles and get into thinking a bit of the future (Robert’s a ‘one day at a time’ person currently). It’s then that KATIE kisses Robert and he returns the favor. It ends with the cake being brought out singing happy birthday to Jack.

Did you see my dad dancing? I’m not conceited, I’m… embarrassed. (Part 2.1)
Jack’s medieval banquet for his 56th birthday is in full swing. Robert and Katie making eyes at each other (not so subtlety) barely taking notice of Elaine (who is leaving quite soon). Jack takes a breather in the back room and is amazed Diane did this for him, he’s a lucky man. Outside, Robert and Katie get into talking about bad dancing (hmm, taking after your dad then, hey, Robert?) and being conceited. Maybe Robert just needs the right partner for dancing…

Right. I’m a lord… princess… serving girl… a squire… the village idiot… and another princess. (Part 1)
Diane sets up a birthday lunch for Jack with smoked salmon (Robert…) and champagne. And his pressie? tights (‘it’s never too late for change of image’) - actually, she needs his help promoting the Woolie. Soon after, Diane’s gives Jack a watch, Andy/Daz get him a new cap and Robert a mobile phone (‘it’s called style, Andy’). Jack notices Robert wearing aftershave and believes it’s for Elaine’s benefit. Everyone gets in their costumes and suave Robert (e.g. lord) turns on the charm. Geared up with beard and all, Jack is definitely surprised. The party is about to commence… in part 2.
