Embrace Karl!Robert…
Robert Sugden: Karl Davies (2003)
A preview…
27-Oct-2003 / 28-Oct-2003
I expect more from you, Robert! Time after time you keep letting me down! (1.2)
Sorry, but when exactly was all this letting me down bs when it was always Andy before? They’ve been on good terms for ages and now he’s the bad seed all of the sudden.
Mr. Bradfield gives Robert the lowdown and, essentially, they’ll ‘probably let him off with a slapped wrist.’ In the pub, Robert tells Jack about his situation and… well… the new dynamic is officially born. Elaine comes out of her room for Frances and tells her about sleeping with Robert and then learning he was behind the wheel. Jack blasts Robert for his actions and needing to stop running away and take responsibility.

Well, I guess the bottom line is… that I am really… really sorry for the distress I caused to all of you. (Part 3.2)
Ronnie apologizes to Ronnie and the two of them agree that they should keep their families apart. Robert shows up at the Marsdens wanting the chance to explain and sort things out. The Marsdens allow Robert to have his say aka time for Robert to give his award-winning BAFTA performance to get back in their good graces 😈😏.

Well, I’ve been through a bit for her. And I don’t like losing. So I’m not giving up on her that easy.. (Part 3.1)
A slightly battered Robert is back at the farm telling Andy he’s planning on winning Elaine back as he ‘doesn’t like losing.’ Frances gives Ronnie a telling for giving Robert (‘barely more than a child’) a thumping. If Ronnie continues as he is, they may lose Elaine. Kate is bothered Andy didn’t tell her about Robert’s situation. Jack wants to press charges, at the least it could be ABH, but Robert won’t have it, he’ll handle it his own way.

I’m not daft. I booked in with a solicitor. I find out what’s the worst that can happen. If it’s not too bad then it’s straight down the nick and back in everyone’s good books. (Part 1.1)
For a moment, I thought you found a conscience.
Robert has Andy meet him at the playground and fills him in about what’s going on with Elaine and his plan to get out of this debacle via seeing a solicitor. Meanwhile, Elaine is hiding in her room with Ronnie and Frances worrying about her. At the solicitor’s, Mr. Bradfield, Robert lays out the situation with ‘his friend.’ He clearly isn’t a fan of this friend’s actions who was apparently in shock/not thinking straight. Mr. Bradfield’s opinion? His friend’s got problems… and not just with the police.

Actually… there is one more thing. It’s about recognizing mistakes… learning and moving on. (Part 4)
In the FINAL part (finally), Katie’s worried about Robert being on his own with the Marsdens (‘I don’t think he’s gonna survive another chat with Ronnie, do you?’) but Andy’s sole focus is the tearaway Daz. It’s mesmerizing to watch as Robert (the version Karl first came in as without the Andy revenge) spins his tale of guilt, remorse and losing the ‘only girl I’ve ever really cared about.’ Afterward, Robert is back at the farm now that he reckons he’s the ‘Marsdens favorite person again.’ And, to top it off, he gets Elaine back (hello smirks).
