I became an official swiftie the day i first saw The Man. That real badass video floored me... it wasn’t just music, it was a message… Sure i heard her songs before (Teardrops on My Guitar and all) but that was when the switch flipped. From then on I was pretty much obsessed with her music and appreciated what she stood for.
I even gifted myself the Eras Tour film on my birthday last October 2023 sat in a Paris theater and had an absolute blast… i even was following the live streams too. For a while i lived and breathed her music. I was even planning of making sure I get an extra room when I have my own place for my collection of swiftie stuff...
But then came the shift… i’ve said before I won’t touch her new stuff until she makes a real stand on Gaza... She’s a billionaire, money isn’t the issue. She once said she wanted to be on the right side of history but i haven’t seen that yet.
And am not calling out every musician. I am talking about her because she’s the biggest artist in the world right now, basically the music industry itself. That’s why it hurts more. I had so much respect for her, I admired who she was back then. People evolve, sure… And when it’s growth I’ll celebrate it but when it’s a downgrade then thanks but no thanks.
This isn’t hate. I still love her older albums especially…1989, Midnights, Reputation, Lover, Red… they kinda shaped chapters of my life. And yeah am forever torn between 1989 and Midnights as my all-time fave (maybe 1989 with a tiny personal edge)
Blocking her accounts on twitter, insta and tumblr last year for sure didn’t dent her millions of followers but it mattered to me… It was me standing by what I believe… And no, it doesn’t make me a hypocrite to still enjoy the music she gave us back then… Loving what she created then doesn’t mean I’ll blindly support what she chooses now… Integrity matters more than playlists, you know.
One of my badass best friends has her wedding coming up and she and her fiancée are huge swifties… If I could, I’d gift them a VIP Taylor moment as a wedding present… not because I’ve changed my stance but because their joy matters more than my boycott. That’s love. So no, am not a hater am happy for people still excited about her music. For me tho until Taylor shows courage where it really matters, I’ll keep my word: no new albums... That’s how much principle means to me.
Am not here to sway swifties. I am happy for my friends who are thrilled about her upcoming album. I am happy for Iga, a certified swiftie I respect deeply… But I believe critical thinking matters: who are we uplifting? what do they stand for? do their actions line up with the values they claim? That’s how I choose to listen or not.
I can love what you created before and still hold you accountable for what you do now…

You killed Nate. That was not meant to happen.
