4th order of Three-Body merch!
Finally something to post after not posting on main for one and a half months!!! It's only been two months since my 3rd batch Three-Body merch, but I had to place a 4th order so soon for this gorgeous and newly released photo collection book about the production of season 1 of Tencent's Three-Body.
The book is named 瞬间/The Moments with almost 300 pages of content edited and written by director Yang Lei.
There are 4 parts in the book. The 1st part, named 故事/the story, takes you down the memory lane, and walks you through the show with hundreds of photos (some were never released previously), short comments, and iconic lines.
The 2nd part, named 角色/the characters, are Yang Lei's comments and insights on all the main actors/characters. I have to show you this part about Zhang Luyi. Yang Lei said: "Before we settled on the cast, I wrote a letter to him (ZLY), and told him that he had to play Wang Miao. Because this series was a hard battle for me, and I've fought all the hard battles in my life with him by my side, so he had to be there this time." I'm just so moved by their friendship and the support/inspiration that they give each other!!!
The 3rd part, named 场景/the sets, is about the set design for Shen Yufei's home, Red Coast Base, and project Guzheng. The 4th part, named 幕后/behind the scenes, consists of little BTS stories and even scientific formulas appeared in the show.
There's really a lot of fantastic stuff in this book, and I can only just show you a tiny fraction of them here. First of all, of course, the Shiwang agenda:
Not surprisingly, Yang Lei kept mentioning their bromance throughout the book. At some point, he used "情感的升温" to describe their relationship development. I guess I can translate it to "warming up to each other", but it's just not quite there. The direct translation should be "the rising temperature of their emotions/feelings towards each other". I think you all get the idea there. And that last photo of them in the field without Ding Yi in sight might be my favourite photo out of the entire book LOL.
For Ye Wenjie, Yang Lei said that this character is desireless, and without aggression. To this character, it is the mind/thought that's most important.

Yang Lei mentioned the "privilege" they got because it was Three-Body that they were filming. For example, they needed consultation from real scientists. In the beginning, they kept the project a secret, and didn't tell the scientific agencies that the show was Three-Body, so at the time, nobody wanted to have anything to do with the project. But after they revealed that it was Three-Body, a lot of those agencies eagerly agreed to help. He actually talked about this back in 2023. If I remembered it correctly, the project name they initially used was 纪元/era.
When filming project Guzheng, they needed to use a bit of space on another production team's set. As they'd talked to the other team for a few days, things had not been resolved. Then, the producer of the other team discovered that Yang Lei's filming Three-Body, and they immediately agreed to move their stuff away and give the space to Yang Lei. That's the power of Three-Body!
However, there were other cases that things were more difficult to them. Two of their indoor filming locations in Beijing for the inside of the Asian Defense Council and Red Coast Base was supposed to be available to them for 25 days, but it was reduced to 15 days. So the team had to film Wang Miao and Shi Qiang during the day. Then, after 6pm, they had to go to the other location and film Ye Wenjie until 3 or 4 am.
There's also the famous story that I already talked about before: they only had ONE day to film all the scenes at the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology. Yang Lei was so stressed because they had quite some scenes to shoot and there was no time to re-shoot, and the poor guy ended up asking for a "heart pill" from Zhang Luyi at some point.
I know this post is getting too long. I just want to say that I really appreciate the effort that everyone put into this show. You can really tell that the cast and crews all poured their hearts and souls into it. And I'm just forever grateful.
