Pac-man World 2 Re-pac was honestly not as good as I'd hoped, which kinda sucks given I have some nostalgia for the Pac-Man world games. I made it to the Lava area, where it started to become kinda apparent that the game struggles to be challenging without being frustrating. Outside of the bossfights your health bar rarely matters and you just instadie to pits and lava instead. It's more in the Crash Bandicoot camp of 3D platformer in that sense, but also like, if crash bandicoot spent half the game being easy. Pac man has a relatively unique moveset but you rarely use it outside of the gimmick situations they call for. The fruits are a highlight, adding some extra exploration challenges to the levels, but they're still highly linear regardless. I do get that this is a remake of a PS2 game, but it's just unpolished in all the wrong places while not moving the needle on Pac-Man world like, at all.
6/10? Glad I got it from the library rather than paying for it.

3D platformers should and must be 60fps.
I've played through What The Car? in both 30fps (Apple TV) and 62fps⁽ˢⁱᶜ⁾ (Windows), and it's safe to say without any ambiguity that although the game is playable in 30fps, it is substantially better at ≥60fps.
Same with Fall Guys. The Nintendo Switch version that is locked at 30fps felt like controlling a jelly blob snail compared to all other versions.
And I'll likely never forget the atrocities against mankind that were the console versions of Crash Bandicoot N. Sanity. On top of all the other problems with the console versions, the PC version at 160fps with motion blur removed is the only good way to play it.
Or the time Insomniac Games had a brain mushing+melting+stroke and made Ratchet & Clank: Nexus and All 4 One locked at 30fps because the CEO was convinced it'd give the game better graphics scores in reviews.
So imagine games like Princess Peach: Showtime! running at 60fps. A drooling dream.
There were a lot of 30fps apologists in the late 2010's who claimed eyes couldn't process more than 30fps (An extremely incorrect claim) or who got pissed at people who didn't want to buy locked-at-30fps games. A majority of those apologists were weebs who played visual novels at like 9.3fps.
So what do we call games like Penny's Big Breakaway, Rollin' Rascal and other that take influence from 3D Sonic, because I've been calling them 'momentum platformers.'
The best 3D platformers will have at least a few of the following:
Cute aesthetic
Good soundtrack
Cool boss fights
Likable side characters
Fishing minigame
A little band that’ll play tracks from the game
Easter Eggs
Beach level
Sky/Space level
Haunted level
Liminal space level
Secret lore that’s super dark
A random moment that’s way scarier than the rest of the game
A random moment that’s way more existential than the rest of the game
At least one super hard platforming level
At least one super hard boss fight
Psychological trauma
Gay people
Look how far out of bounds you can get in Pseudoregalia
The movement in this game is nuts, go check it out, it's $6 on steam
