KSC Challenges Judging & Prize
KSC will conduct judging for each of its five challenges:
Print My Rocket
Backfill My Model
Launch: A Global Experience
Geotagging Space and Aviation
Space Route 66
To be eligible, teams attempting one of those challenges just need to submit the same elements as for global judging (even if they were not nominated for global judging). If the project was nominated for global judging, it will be considered for BOTH global and KSC judging.
The most notable item required in global judging is a 30 second video posted publicly about the project by Friday, April 29. Each challenge will have a panel of KSC experts review the eligible projects and select the top project.
The overall KSC challenge winning team will be invited to a NASA launch viewing opportunity with the Space Apps Global Winners!
We hope Space Apps participants consider attempting one of our challenges!

The winning teams of each KSC challenge will be recognized on social media by Space Apps KSC. Of the winning teams, one will be selected as the overall 2016 KSC winner and will be invited to a NASA launch viewing opportunity! A select number of invitations will be issued to the team; the invitations are available for U.S. citizens as well as non-U.S. citizens. For invitation events, all non-U.S. citizens must be approved by NASA security 30 days prior to the event. All NASA invited guests (team members and their guests) will be responsible for their own transportation and any costs incurred to attend.
To be eligible for one of the five KSC challenge based category winners, the solution page must be created on spaceappschallenge.org no later than midnight PacificTime (GMT-7) on Sunday, April 24, 2016. The team must submit their solution under the same criteria that applies to global judging by midnight PacificTime (GMT-7) on Friday, April 29, 2016 (0700 GMT on April 30). Any #3DBackfill #GeoNASA #321Liftoff #PrintedRocket #SpaceRoute66 team can submit; your project does NOT have to be a global nominee from your location.
“The judges will review the finalists based on a short project description, a 30 second video, and project page links. Any code developed during the event weekend must be open source. To be eligible for global judging your project page must include a link to the code in a public repository.”
Regarding the video, recall the principles from the “240 Seconds to Glory” graphic. More tips in “30 seconds to Glory” graphic and short video.
KSC retains the right not to select a winner for any given challenge or an overall KSC winner. KSC winners are judged separately from the Space Apps Global Winners; eligible projects will be considered for both types of judging.
