2015 Challenges and Judging by Kennedy Space Center
Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida has provided challenges for NASA’s global hackathon, the International Space Apps Challenge, again for 2015. We are 4 of the 35 challenges.
*3-2-1 LIFTOFF: Launch that Rocket! *Bodies in Spacey Motion *Survivor: Mars Lava Tubes *Space Wearables: Designing for Today’s Launch & Research Stars
KSC will be holding Google Hangouts with subject matter experts answering questions and talking about how the challenge relates to their work.
Additionally, KSC will conduct judging for each of its four challenges. To be eligible, teams attempting one of those challenges just need to submit the same elements as for global judging (even if they were not nominated for global judging). The most notable item required in global judging is a 1 minute video posted publicly about the project. Each challenge will have a panel of KSC experts review the eligible projects and select the top project. More details on the prize for the top projects are below. Additional details will be announced after the challenge, but it will involve Kennedy Space Center and/or a launch.
Space Florida has also created a challenge this year too.
*Fit as a MOoSE: Metabolic Observations of Space Explorers
We hope Space Apps participants consider attempting one of our challenges!
--------------
The winning teams will be invited or receive a prize regarding Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and/or viewing a future launch. In the event a select number of invitations are issued for a team, the invitations are available for U.S. citizens as well as non-U.S. citizens. For invitation events, all non-U.S. citizens must be approved by NASA security 30 days prior to the event. All NASA invited guests (team members and their guests) will be responsible for their own transportation and any costs incurred to attend.
The Orlando location category winner is only available to solutions that are presented as a part of the judging at the KSC location on the afternoon of Sunday, April 12, 2015. At least one member of the team must be registered at KSC and physically present at the location during judging to present the solution. The winning solution will be announced at the awards presentation following judging.
To be eligible for one of the four KSC challenge based category winners, the solution page must be created on spaceappschallenge.org no later than midnight PacificTime (GMT-7) on Sunday, April 12, 2014. The team must submit their solution under the same criteria that applies to global judging by Sunday, midnight PacificTime (GMT-7) on April 19, 2014 (local time). Any #RocketLaunch #SpaceWearables #MarsLavaTubes #SpaceyMotion team can submit; your project does NOT have to be a global nominee from your location.
“The judges will review the finalists based on a short project description, a one-minute video, and project page links. Any code developed during the event weekend must be open source. To be eligible for global judging your project page must include a link to the code in a public repository.”
KSC retains the right not to select a winner for any given challenge. An overall KSC challenge winning project may be selected of the four KSC winning projects. The overall KSC winner may receive a different prize from the other three KSC winning projects and the Orlando event winner.
