The virtue in quitting

I know this isn’t a popular concept in the US, but sometimes we’ve agreed to something that we really don’t have the time or emotional energy to do well. In other words, I would rather whole-ass something than half-ass two things. So, this morning I decided to withdraw from the 3MT competition in order to devote more time to completing my actual PhD thesis!

5MT Preparation

I’ve started preparing for this 5MT just like I said it in the previous post and I’ve finished the rough sketch of my text. Somehow, each time I rehearsed I did very well in the first and second paragraph, but I always messed up when I started talking about 3D bio-printer. It might be that I repeated the first and second paragraph more often than the rest of the speech since I get easily distracted during rehearsing that I end up doing other stuff.

Talking about 3D bio-printer in a manner that we understand it very well and to explain it simply but not to make it too simple is kind of a challenge. In fact, each time I started to talk about 3D bio-printer in my rehearsal, I kept on doubting myself it it’s right or wrong and will spring up to my laptop or smartphone to find out more about what I am talking about. This really sucks, since at the end I will stop talking and I will restart from the very first paragraph. Making me vulnerable in the mid speech. 

I think I really need some encouragement and some good tips to somehow get by this 5MT. The purpose of this 5MT is to select 55 students or more suitable for the faculty to send for the student exchange program but in order not to burden myself, I tried to think that this 5MT is a platform for me to learn public speaking. Despite my timidness and stage fright, I need to learn to fight this in order for me to grow. If I wanted to be a great person, then I need to start putting myself out there. Be brave and have confidence.
