Isometric cubes in three space, by Tiago Hands.
New course: What did the planning system ever do for us?
A course of 6 x two hour sessions (Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm, starting 21 October) at The Hatch, Little Clarendon St, Oxford - run by Daniel Scharf MRTPI in collaboration with the Community Action Group project. The course will be free but limited in numbers and commitment to most if not all of the course will be expected.
Daniel has had forty years experience working in the public, private and voluntary sectors and has run similar courses for the Oxford University Department of Continuing Education. Some background to the course can be found at www.dantheplan.blogspot.com
The format each week will be an introduction to the subject followed by group discussions and short exercises. The purpose of the course is to encourage people to become more active and effective in their engagement with the planning system (both locally and nationally). The class will discuss recent examples of planning cases and, in particular, will concentrate on the principle of ‘sustainable development’ and how this is and should be applied in plan-making and decision-taking.
Please contact [email protected] to sign up.
Programme
21 Oct - Introduction to the planning system; the underlying law, the formulation and application of policy and its administration – including the role of the ‘public’.
28 Oct – The NPPF, NPPG, Local Plans, Neighbourhood Plans and written ministerial statements.
4 Nov - Meeting housing needs; assessing the need for new housing of different types and tenures and how these could be met nationally and locally through, new settlements (inc garden cities), urban expansion and ‘intensification’.
11 Nov – Exploring the relationship between land uses and transport and how to plan for a low carbon transport system.

3Space are coming to Birmingham!
We’re very excited to announce that we’re busy preparing to open another new Hatch, this time in Birmingham! More details to come very soon... If you’d like to find out more about our Hatch project, take a peek at the blog of Hatch Oxford - our first space opened in partnership with Barclays, which was launched in January 2015. On the blog you can see pictures and videos of the space, case-studies of some of our users, and details of exhibitions, events and other exciting goings-on in the space. We’re also in the process of launching Hatch Brighton - find out more over at http://hatchbrighton.tumblr.com At this stage, while we’re busy measuring up the space and preparing it for use, we’re interested in hearing from (deep breath): local non-profit organisations, social enterprises, early-stage start-up businesses, artists, makers, up-cyclers, community champions and everything in between! We welcome ideas, proposals and suggestions from any groups who would like to get involved with Hatch Birmingham, so please do get in touch via [email protected] As always, for the latest news on our progress in Birmingham keep an eye on this blog, our Facebook page and our Twitter feed, and feel free to get in touch with us directly if you have any specific questions or thoughts - we can’t wait to hear from you!
We're in The Croydon Citizen! Check out out the article which went up to celebrate our 1st anniversary in Croydon, and the 5th birthday of 3Space.
The Tech City Town Hall was lots of fun the other week - it was inspiring to see how far Croydon Tech City has come in the past 3 years, from an idea to an event like this with over 200 people! There was even one of our other hub members, Han Son from the very lovely LOAF App team having some stage time telling their experience of Croydon, and they were kind enough to mention how 3Space has helped them through offering free space for them to work on their App
Croydon has become a real hub for the tech community, with over 1,000 different tech companies based in the borough of Croydon. The 3Space team had a stall at the event as one of the ‘space providers’ in Croydon at this moment in time, and we had a brilliant time meeting lots of fantastic companies and people from in and around the Cronx.
We’ll be very interested to see what happens over the next year for Croydon Tech City in this ever-changing borough, and with all the hard work the team and their volunteers put in, it can only go onwards and upwards!
