"Question" and an "Answer"
(Full scriptures mentioned in this blog are below this "📜📜📜" sign)
The Bible does not identify the fruit physically. It simply calls it the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The emphasis is not on what kind of fruit it was, but on disobedience. Spiritually, the fruit can represent accepting the serpent’s lie — taking in knowledge apart from God’s word.
What does the Bible explicitly say?
In Book of Genesis 2–3, the text simply calls it:
“the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
The Bible does not name the fruit. It does not say apple, fig, pomegranate, or anything else. The focus of the passage is not the species of fruit, but the command of God and the act of disobedience.
So biblically speaking, the most direct answer is:
The fruit is unnamed.
A spiritual interpretation
Scripture often uses “fruit” symbolically:
“You will know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16).
“The fruit of the lips” (Hebrews 13:15).
So one could interpret the fruit in Genesis spiritually as:
The internalizing of a lie — taking in knowledge apart from God’s truth.
In that sense, “eating” represents:
Receiving
Believing
Acting upon
The tree represents a source of knowledge. The fruit represents what comes from that source. The act of eating represents agreement and participation.
