A six gun capable of .45 Colt loads that makes most .44 Magnum look mild.
The Bowen Belt Howitzer, known more commonly as the "Nimrod", owned by legendary gun writer Brian Pearce.
Built on a Ruger Blackhawk, a strong action in its own right, Bowen takes the oversized revolver to the next level by custom fabricating a new barrel and oversized cylinder. Then, the two are line-bored for ultimate accuracy, the gun is given an action job, and finished in a deep inky blue.
Because of the new cylinder, these Nimrods are capable of incredible strength, perfect for use as a heavy .45 Colt cannon. Most people are unaware of the capability of .45 Colt, and they don't quite understand the unique balance the cartridge offers. Being a larger diameter than the .44 Magnum, the .45 is able to produce similar power, but with less of a pressure spike than comparable .44 loads. While both buck plenty in the hand, the muzzle blast, concussion, and recoil of the .45 Colt is dramatically more pleasant than that of the famous .44 Magnum cartridge.
