I like to challenge myself. Make things more difficult. Not take shortcuts.
It's fine if people do. I just like to test myself. My resolve. My stubbornness.
On Duolingo, when you lose all your hearts, you can buy all five of them for 350 gems. I don't always have that amount lying around - I like to use them for turning my lessons into shining gold. But today I do.
Most days I end up losing all my red hearts. It's almost unavoidable when you're actively and sometimes distractedly practicing seven different languages.
Today, as I move down the menu to click the button that allows me to practice in order to gain a heart, I accidentally click the button with which one buys all five. Duo doesn't even ask me if I am sure. It takes away my gems and colours in all my hearts.
It was a misclick, and yet I feel like I somehow betrayed a core tenet of my very being.
