Get ya self a girl who can do both: be the destroyer of worlds and look cute 💫
It’s been 4 years since I started powerlifting. I have to say it’s been quite the journey thus far, I honestly didn’t think I’d stick it out this long when I started. I’m really glad I did though because if there’s anything I have to say is that it’s been incredibly rewarding, there’s lots to learn and getting to test my limits has been a grand time.
I’d absolutely recommend weightlifting to anybody that wants to give it a try. It’s hard but it’s fun, knowing that you’ve got the power in your own hands to make life better through discipline and strength is something I personally can’t get enough of. Everyday things become a lot simpler when you don’t have to struggle with them, physically I’ve never been fitter than I am right now.
People talk about the “runners high” but I think there’s a “lifters high” too. There’s a certain thrill of overcoming a roadblock that you’ve been chasing for a while. It’s that challenge that I think has me coming back to this sport - why I haven’t thrown in the towel. Not to mention the community of supportive people I’ve met along with my fantastic coach that’s been pushing me ahead. It’s a warming feeling to know other people have the same faith and confidence in me that I do.
I think picking up this sport was honestly one of the best things I’ve ever done. It really has been life changing, and I’m absolutely looking forward to the years to come and where it’ll take me next.
Cheers!
Happy lifting folks!
I’m always gonna love the perk of being small enough to be able to wear kids shirts and sweaters. I may not be able to reach the top shelf but I can save money wearing cute stuff for cheap!
Get yourself a girl who can do both. Look scary and cute 💁♀️💁♀️💁♀️
Feeling cute, looking cute.
Loving the new fall colours from Roots.
Completed my first powerlifting competition today after the entirety of my training had gone sideways for the past month. It’s pretty cool being in a room filled with people that are just as hyped up about the same sport you are.
I really couldn’t of done it without my team, my coach and his wife for her bootcamp style workouts (thank you for helping me with my crappy cardio), but honestly my best friends (both of whom lifted with me today). I’m glad they had my back in helping me prepare for this and being my training partners - I really appreciate them being there for me. It was a gift getting to experience the hype and excitement first hand.
I’m really happy with my results, managed to make it into the 57kg weight class just under the wire (56.95kg is what I weighed in as). I might not of gotten 9/9 lifts but what I did get I’ll take! Accomplishing 130kg/286lbs for squat, 52.5kg/116lbs for bench, and 137.5kg/303lbs for deadlifts landed me a 320kg/704lbs total which is the amount needed to qualify for nationals in my weight class. It was the one goal I was hoping to get yesterday and I did it.
After having a chest cold and then turning around and catching Covid I knew I wasn’t going to be 100%. I knew I wasn’t going to break any personal records but that’s okay. I didn’t need to, but if there’s one thing I do have to say is that I’m excited to get back to the grind and get stronger. Hopefully next competition I do will yield better results. I want to push myself to my limits and I think I did pretty well considering I sat on my ass not hardly doing a damn thing for a week prior to thanks to having to isolate.
Getting to meet some of the province’s most well renowned lifters for myself was something super cool too. I really loved how sweet some of them were, it’s always nice to meet someone for yourself - not hold judgements on someone until you see them with your own eyes. That was one thing I enjoyed about the day - people are so inspiring and they definitely inspire me to do better as a lifter and perhaps as a person.
I guess until next time I’ll be working on reaching my long term goals. There’s a lot I want to accomplish and I’m absolutely stoked that I found a sport that I really enjoy considering I wasn’t really sporty growing up.
Either way, wish me luck!
Cheers! Happy lifting folks!
Happy to say everything has been moving well at the gym lately. I’ve been back to steadily losing weight (hello 56kg!) but my energy is holding out well and the weight hasn’t been unbearable.
Getting stronger is fun. Crushed these numbers today (they’re in kilos btw). Was feeling kinda tired by the end of it but I’m more than happy to be feeling that way. It’s always good when you feel like you put your best foot forward in whatever it is you do.
But anyways, happy lifting. I’m sure I’ll be doing this for a very long time to come so we’ll see where I go!
