Surprise, you probably thought I'd shut up at some point but I'm apparently talkative this week! Despite tumblr doing that thing again where it randomly deletes my entire message repeatedly. The random pressing urge to stay up until 6 AM+ and make an item is apparently just going to keep happening though, so here we are. If you don't know about Old Tom I recommend you look up the tale.
In short though, the law of the tongue is a pact between the indigenous peoples of Australia and the local orca population. The orca drove whales to the humans, who would finish them off and hold them in place while the orca ate their share of the haul. Humans would also leave tribute to the orca, who would scare predators away from their ships on occasion. This was adopted by Europeans later, famously the Davidson family partnered with a specific pod for 3 generations. Out of fear of a storm they once tried to leave before the orca got their share, and Old Tom lost many teeth in the struggle. They built a museum to the orca and their tale out of shame for that day, and Old Tom rests there to this day.
I've built a few variants of this weapon over the years, but I think this one may be my favorite. The extra damage makes up for the usual 1d6 of a spear, and most people would want it for the blindsense and immunity to surprise alone. The pushing and pulling mechanics mess with the flow of battle, and the fact that it recharges whether you want it to or not is a perfect risk/reward. It encourages frequent use to avoid wasting a recharge, but adds the risk of it finishing off an enemy at a bad time. Old Tom is a massive help, but you better have time to give your due, regardless of what other dangers approach.
