Idk what this is... I wrote it in 15 mins so it’s probably trash
Pure fluff with some tired cute fluff, GIF creds to owner
“Sorry to drag you along with me to the store, we can always go back home and I’ll come back later. I know you’re exhausted from work and it’s your first week back. I should’ve shopped beforehand.” I was a blubbering mess and he just gave me a tired grin.
“Anywhere you are is home.” He grins and I roll my eyes. “Literally shut the fuck up you cringe-full fool.” I go to shove his shoulder and he grabs my hand to pull me into his side. “I’m kidding, well not really, but I’m fine with just going to a store at 9 p.m.” Calum’s infectiously goofy smile made me grin too.
“Are you sure, I’m sorry I didn’t shop beforehand,” I mumble as I grab a cart and start making my way towards the dairy section. “You’ve been busy with finals all week, you’ve been just as busy so don’t worry about it.” He kisses the side of my head and I smile more. “I appreciate that.”
“So like, can I get some cookie dough?”
“You’re a multi-millionaire and you’re asking me if you can get cookie dough, really?”
“I’ll take that as a yes.”
I shake my head as he puts a few packages of cookie dough into the basket as I pick up some eggs. I grab some cheese sticks and a gallon of milk. “There’s honestly two types of shoppers.” He jokes as he watches me pick up the essentials.
“Well, budgeting is a lifestyle, Cal.” I poke fun and he sticks his tongue out.
I move towards the cereal, he eats the shit out of that more than anything. I pull the Froot Loops and Cap’n Crunch family size boxes as he just follows behind like a lost puppy.
I continue shopping that way for a while before I ended up in the clothes section. I had gotten so sidetracked from finishing groceries. I look up to ask Cal about a shirt but I stopped in my tracks when I see his droopy eyes and a big yawn escaping.
I put the shirt down and grab his warm hand, he blinked so slowly and it made me feel guilty for keeping him up. “Let’s checkout. You’re exhausted.” I give a small smile and head towards the line, he stood behind me with his arms wrapped around the front of me.
He sluggishly helped me unload the cart onto the conveyor belt, I stand in front of the card reader waiting for the guy to finish up, Cal graciously loaded them into the cart again after they were bagged.
The total comes up and I pull my card out, Calum booty-bumping me out of the way and swiping his card before I even had the chance to. I pout a little but I see his competitive smile and I roll my eyes.
We give our goodbyes to the cashier and make our way to the car. “I could’ve paid tonight, you didn’t have to,” I mumble and he chuckles. “Yeah I know, but as you said, I am a multi-millionaire.” He acts like he was bragging and I snicker quietly.
We load up the trunk and put the cart back, I snatch the keys from Calum’s hand and run to the driver's seat, jumping in before he could physically remove me.
“Babyyyyy,” he strung out the last letter and continued to get into the passenger side. “Babe, your bags under your eyes are sponsored by Gucci and Jet-Lag, I can drive home.” I revved up the car and backed out.
Between the cool air, dark skies, and his already present drowsiness, he was out by the time I made it onto the interstate.
——
I carefully and quietly unloaded the car with it running, I have never sprinted back and forth so fast just to get it done. I wanted Cal to sleep as long as he could so he didn’t feel obligated to help when he was this exhausted.
“Calum, baby, we’re home.” I shake his right shoulder gently, he stretched slightly before releasing the seatbelt. I help him out and start towards the front door. “Baby, the groceries.” He mumbled and I laughed to myself. “They’re inside already, cmon.”
Once inside I lead him to the living room to sit for a while, I unloaded the groceries quickly, I could see his sleepy figure on the couch. I smiled to myself as he was trying so hard to stay awake.
I folded up the paper bags and stick them beside the fridge. “Hey babe, are you ready to go to bed?” I ask and he slowly nods, standing up even slower.
I grab his hand as we ascend the staircase, I couldn’t wait to be his arms but also our bed.
Once we made it to our room, we both strip down and he hands me the shirt he was wearing, I slipped it over me quickly. He flopped in bed and I was close in pursuit.
“Thank you for unloading the groceries, I’m sorry I didn’t help at all.”
“I’m sorry I made you go out, I knew you were tired and I should’ve either waited or went earlier. I’m sorry.”
The guilt built more when I saw his baggy eyes blink so slowly. He pushed some tiny hairs away from my face and then just brushed my face with his calloused fingers.
“Babe, stop feeling guilty about that, I’m not concerned about it. We both survived, slowly and tiredly, but we made it out with cookie dough.” He joked so quietly, the tiredness seems to take away the volume.
“You’re goofy babe,” I slightly laugh and he grins softly.
“Can I be honest with you?” He asks and I nod, weird to ask considering we were always honest.
“You keep apologizing and it reminds me of when you took me home to your parents like the 3rd time. You were very hangry and making cookies from scratch, you had just put them in the oven and then loaded up the dishwasher. I hopped onto the counter to sit and I just took time to admire you, per usual, but it felt so wholesome,” I go to open my mouth to talk about how I didn’t know what he was talking about, he lays his hand over it.
“Your mom came in, saw us and she jokingly said something along the lines of ‘you’re forcing a millionaire to watch you make cookies, doesn’t he have anything better to do.’ She walked out of the room and you apologized the whole time because you figured it was accurate but it wasn’t. It still isn’t. I knew when I got to watch you work you're way around the house and just made cookies so peacefully with me, I knew I wanted to see it again years down the road. I wanted to see you being my best friend as we got to do subtle yet loving things, and I get to do that. So, you inviting me to go shop because you still wanted to spend time with my tired ass and even letting me sleep through your whole unloading session, buying my favorite cereals without thought, or even thinking you’d pay for groceries... you just you make up my whole life. I wouldn’t change cookie making or tired grocery shopping for anything. Literally anything.” His speech was so slurred and slow from drowsiness but it still made me grin ear to ear.
“I’m gonna have to ship you around a plane for a couple of hours a day so you’re jet-lagged, you’re a lot more sentimental and cute.” I joke and kiss his forehead softly.
“I just really love you.” He mumbled and I could tell all of the energy went into the speech.
“Calum, I love you more than life. I would sell my left kidney just to make sure I got to spend time with you. I cherish any moment or memory I get to share with you.” I run my thumb over his silver hairline. He smiled so warmly and tiredly.
“Why your left one? Not the right?” He mumbled and I snickered. “I was hoping I could get more for it being my left.”
“Baby, I’m so tired and I want to stay up to talk about kidneys and my love for you, but I’m so tired.” He whined and I kissed his pouty lips quickly.
Summary: He is the definition of high class smart ass, swimming in Dom Pierre Pérignon champagne and has never seen the shadow of poverty. She is underprivileged, lives in a messy dorm room on sale and struggles working as an assistant after being thrown out of college. But how will they collide when Luke makes Y/N pregnant after a drunkenly one night stand
When We Collide on Wattpad
You looked up carefully with a pencil resting between your lips. It hadn’t been used for proper ten minutes, simply just being rolled between your fingers to make it seem like you were doing something.
He was sitting in his office at your home but he wasn’t saying anything, neither looking up. The deep thoughts were clear on his face expressions.
“Luke I-,” The words were faint and barely came out from your lips, obviously showing you still didn’t have the guts to confront him about his silence yet.
With eyes glancing back to the crossword you had in front of you that barely contained any letters you sunk deeper into the table with a heavy sad sigh.
He was sitting in his office when he needed alone time, even though you were allowed to walk inside you almost never did. It was like where he got the chance to think alone and you never really wanted to disturb his work at home.
But this was something different. You could feel your legs were shaking, you just wanted to walk inside and hear what was going on. Hear what he had on the heart because the last couple of days he had been so faint to you he was almost air.
Not something you had decided on the contrary you almost felt that you missed him.
Everything had been so different since the first lamaze class you had attended, he had barely spoken a word to you ever since. Sometimes it was one worded sentences that he let out if you asked him something important but otherwise no.
You were begging to understand what was going on in his mind. You needed to know because things were going so well and you almost couldn’t believe that you were starting all over again.
You wanted to go in and ask what was going on but you were so afraid he would push you away because that was what Luke did in reality.
He never let anyone in, and that’s why everyone leaves.
You had considered standing up for a while but you still felt forced on the couch. You had been hovering over the coffee table trying to look occupied but all you did was catching yourself looking into his office again.
You had no idea what he was doing but you couldn’t imagine it to be important. It was like he sought the place every time you were up for a conversation because from that he knew that you would leave him alone.
But it was time for a little change and you needed to understand what was going on. He couldn’t keep himself this quiet without sharing a single thought or just a warm glance.
“Luke I uh-,” You barely managed to get the words slip past your lips. They felt like harsh sandpaper.
Even though your voice was weak and almost faint, he heard it loud and clearly. His head shut up instantly in reaction from looking at his scattered papers and he nodded his head in agreement.
“What’s wrong?” He asked like it wasn’t obvious that there was a huge barrier between you.
You looked down at your feet not really knowing what to say. You had wanted to confront him for so many days now but it felt as if you didn’t want to know. You didn’t want to cause unnecessary drama or discussions because that was how it felt it would turn out.
He was looking at you with furrowed eyebrows not sure if he should go back to his work or keep focusing on you.
When you didn’t say anything after a while he turned his attention back but you stopped him by making a coughing voice. It was actually necessary for your dry mouth because you felt so blocked to say anything.
“What’s wrong?” Your words were identical to his, it wasn’t intentional but it was what you had in mind.
You wanted to know what was going on in that head of his. You wanted to know how he had suddenly put a distance between you that was keeping you away from actually getting into his mind.
He furrowed his eyebrows even more but by the way he was clenching his jaw he was aware of what you were hinting him at.
He looked back at the papers as if he wanted to sigh heavily and shrugged his shoulder. You wanted to say it was pathetic of him to answer that way but you stayed quiet and stared at him until he said something properly.
“It’s nothing, Y/N.” He stated, but the awareness of his statement not being the truth was so obvious between you.
“But why are you-,”
“It’s nothing, Y/N!” He stated again but this time with much more power and force than he had done before.
If this attitude was going to scare you off he could take a ticket and stand in life. For your whole life you had allowed people to treat you like the underdog and there was no way possible he would get away with this by a stern tone.
“No Luke, it’s definitely not nothing!” You yelled back, forgetting completely about the little tone you had carried before.
“Why are you always being like this? I seriously thought we had become something better than this! That we shouldn’t have to worry about getting in these fights anymore because we had finally settled on being the mature ones, not the ones who didn’t understand the term of maturity! That’s what we’re supposed to do now that we’re parents!”
“There you have it!” He said trying to be quieter but his voice was still stern.
You furrowed your eyebrows confused not understanding what he was talking about. He was having a look on his face that showed he was torn between speaking up but also being very frustrated.
He stood up from the chair just to illustrate how frustrated he was and loosened the tie around his neck.
“I’m not sure what you’re talking about.” You crossed your arms and squeezed one eye while staring at him.
“You don’t? Because I felt like it has been pretty obvious since the lamaze class?” He tried to remind you and see if a bell rang but it didn’t.
When you didn’t say anything he shook his whole body and ran his hand through his hair at first and afterwards down his face. The black tie was now hanging loosely around his neck.
“You left for a short minute and came back and from that you changed your attitude completely. How am I supposed to interpret that Luke because I’m not inside of your head!?” You furrowed your eyebrows confused and wanted for him to explain.
“Oh god you never want to do that trust me.” He said and pointed at you with wide eyes, “You don’t want that and you have to believe it.”
“I might not want to but at least you have to tell me what is going on. I might be confused at times but I’m not stupid Luke and to me it seems like you were completely scared away by that birth video. If you don’t want to be a part of the birth you can at least just tell me instead of playing Distance Derek for almost two full weeks!”
“This has nothing to do with being a part of the birth!” He was quick to say and you furrowed your eyebrows again. If he wasn’t going to say anything instead of playing secret like this you would freak.
“This has something to do with the fact that reality has hit me!”
“In what sort of way? We’re living the real life Luke this is not heartache on the big screen!” You tried your best to calm down but the mood swings was there, they never seemed to fully go away.
“Yes but you don’t understand.” He shook his head in disbelief, not because of you but because he did not know how to fully explain himself.
You watched him pace back and forth again that was all he did. He did it when he was frustrated, when he didn’t know what to say or figure out what to do with himself.
You didn’t understand how that was working to clear out his mind because it only stressed you out even more.
“I’m not ready.” He finally stated and you furrowed your eyebrows confused.
“Ready for what?” You knew you were only more annoying to him but you needed to understand what he was hinting at. You wanted the truth to be spoken and not having this being based on misunderstanding and interpretation.
“I’m not ready to become a parent.”
Silence hit hard and not in a way it had done before.
You stood completely frozen and watched him carefully above your eyelashes.
He was standing with a heavy breathing now, it was as if he expected that he could feel relieved by the announcement but he didn’t. In fact he was scanning your face for every feeling you could possibly have at once.
You weren’t sure what to say, your mouth had turned back to being sandpaper.
God how you regretted having this conversation in the first place and how you just wanted to scroll back because this changed everything and anything forward.
“I’m not ready to become a father. I am not a father.”
You watched him with eyebrows to the point of touching your hairline, you couldn’t believe his words. It didn’t make any sense as to everything else that had happened between you.
“Why are you in that belief? It doesn’t make any sense.” Your voice was barely above a whisper because you were so afraid that it would break in the end.
He blinked twice and placed his hands back in his pants, but it wasn’t sooner than later it came up to scratch his new freshly shaved jaw.
“A father is someone who is supposed to take responsibility for someone else. A father is someone who is supposed to be looked up to, someone who is always there for you and always will be no matter what happens. Someone that gives everything he possibly can to a human like himself because he was the one who created it in the first place. Someone that isn’t invisible to the world, someone that is even too afraid to say the title out loud. I just can’t. I can’t be a father right now.”
Was he really saying this? It didn’t make any sense, how could he multiply and realize all of this just because of one lamaze class.
“I don’t-, I don’t understand you.” It was the only thing that came from your lips but you clearly understood him. Loud and clear.
“You can’t just back out now! Not after everything we’ve been through.”
“But don’t you understand Y/N? This doesn’t work out, we don’t work it out.” He motioned between you with his hands and almost wanted to shake his head in disbelief.
“What do you mean we don’t work it out? You’re the one backing out all of the sudden like you had landed on Mars and changed everything you had suddenly stood for. I don’t understand what is going on in your mind Luke but if you don’t fucking tell me I keep walking around in confusion!”
“Tell you what? That I’m letting my daughter down before she’s even born? I think that states enough Y/N.” He ripped off the tie and hung it on the top of his desk chair.
“You’re giving up beforehand! You don’t even know what the future will look like in just a few weeks! Everything changes all the time Luke that is the thing with us!”
“You wanna know what the thing is with us Y/N?” He asked and you stood frozen almost leaning against the door frame as he walked forward to stand right in front of you.
“When we collide things break. Not just us but everything among us.”
He was having an expression on his face that was indescribable. You were trying to understand what was going on but your heart was pacing so hard and almost to the point of popping out of your chest.
You didn’t know what to say other than you knew he was so true.
But you didn’t want to admit it out loud. You knew there was always some sort of barrier that you couldn’t pass to finally accept each other, it was like no matter what you did it would always hit you back hard.
You looked down at your feet but you didn’t shake your head in disagreement. For once, you didn’t know if you should continue the conversation or not so he did.
“I don’t know what it’s going to take but right now I don’t know anything that surrounds around me. It’s like my head is messed up and the only thing I can think about is how big of a disappointment I am to myself.”
“Yes. You are such a disappointment.” You were quick to nod your head in agreement and tightened your lips together afterwards.
You moved away from leaning against the door frame to walk out of his office. You didn’t want to stand there feeling like an idiot because the knot in your stomach couldn’t compare to the feeling of disappointment that was in your veins.
“I knew you were gonna say that.” He mumbled with his hands in his pockets and you looked over your shoulder.
“Don’t speak like you know me.” You spat quietly but it made him furrow his eyebrows in confusion.
“What did you say?” He wanted you to repeat the words again and crossed his arms.
“You don’t know me Luke so please, don’t act like you do!” Your voice got louder this time to show your frustration and you turned around again to look at him fully.
“You don’t think I know you?” He asked with such disbelief in his tone you were sure he almost wanted to laugh that was how pathetic he felt this was.
You shook your head by his words and watched him walk past you to get towards the large windows that had view over the city. It was not late at night but enough to see that not many cars were on the streets.
“Why do you think that?”
“Because you don’t!” You were so frustrated that he kept questioning you.
“It’s like we’ve known each other for months but never truly understood each other.”
“Is that really how you feel?” He asked again once in disbelief and moved away from the window to turn around and look at you.
“When you play Ludo you always pick the blue color no matter what and not only because it’s your favorite color. You pick it because you believe that choosing the same color will bring luck to your game.”
You furrowed your eyebrows confused by his sudden words, it wasn’t something you had remembered telling him before.
“You don’t want to admit, but you’ve got the biggest competitive gene. It’s not in the way where you get angry because you can control your temper and you don’t like getting angry at people but losing is something you don’t want to. Everything can become a competition to you as long as you win.”
He wasn’t blinking twice and you could tell there wasn’t any doubt in his voice when he spoke. He was confident, knew what he was talking about and he wasn’t stopping any second from now.
“When you play cards you always go after the pikes queen and not because you need it but because you think it’s the prettiest card out them all.” He leaned down to grab the cards being held in an elastic band and threw them all over the table.
“9 is your favorite number because nobody picks it when asked to pick between 1-10. It makes life more complicated and you become a more unpredictable person by being so out the ordinary.” He grabbed the card, not coincidentally the pike one and threw it back onto the table.
You had no idea what was coming when he walked into the kitchen but you followed him.
The stunned look on your face didn’t change a bit, in fact your eyebrows only rose more and more. You didn’t understand what the hell was going on but you were trying to take in all the words at once.
“When you eat toast you always leave the knife with butter on the edge of the sink because you are not sure whether you will eat a piece more or not.” He pointed towards a sink where the usual knife was resting, today was different because you had been eating something else.
“When you eat yogurt you only prefer the natural, vanilla or pear banana one. Not because those are the best flavors but because you don’t like the large clumps that comes with flavors like strawberry.”
That was exactly what you had been eating this morning, the pear banana one. He didn’t even see you doing it because he had been staying at his office all morning long.
“When you’re sad you try to hold all the tears in because you come from a household of boys that doesn’t allow someone to show some real feelings.”
That one hit in another place than the others, now it was suddenly becoming very personal and you had to hold onto the kitchen counter just to make sure you wouldn’t suddenly pass out.
“Because you were the last one picked in the pile you don’t believe that you can get success just because that is something boys do. You’re so used to your brothers stealing your thunder even if you’re the only girl in the family you’re still the shadow of everyone else. You’re in the belief that you can’t do anything without ruining it and it’s the reason why you have such difficulty connecting to everyone. Because you’re afraid to lose, you’re afraid to love and you’re afraid to commit to someone else. You didn’t come to work for me because you wanted a challenge nor being good for the job. You came to get a community, to get something you could wake up to every single morning to know that even if you weren’t qualified like someone else you could do the job perfectly your way.”
You stood completely frozen and didn’t know what to say. Everything he had said had been so spot on you didn’t know what to do with yourself.
“Even when you’re in the darkest place where you feel like everyone has betrayed you, you still go for acceptance. Not because you feel like it’s the right thing but because you always see the good in people despite their flaws. You allow people to be who they are even if they step on your toes because it doesn’t affect you, it just let you show the different side of people that not everyone likes.”
Now it was getting to the point of being very deep and you were on the edge of crying. All the words hit you so hard at once it was harsh to take it all in, let them sink into your mind and try to understand how he had caught up with all of this.
“And I can be honest I don’t know a shitlot of parenting and upbringing because my life has been easy as hell but that’s not the case with you. And from that, from your upbringing, I will know that you will be the best mom possible. You can fit in for both roles, you don’t need someone to help you along because you are such a strong character Y/N, you don’t need it. You’re so independent you don’t need a man in your life to drag you down all the time. You don’t deserve such thing like that. And I can’t let that happen.”
He became quieter and he seemed to be finished. There was a silence that couldn’t even be cut with a knife that was how thick and intense it was.
“You can say a lot of shit about me Y/N but do not say I don’t know you because I know you in a way nobody else does.”
You wanted to nod your head in agreement but you were to shocked to say anything. You could feel your bottom lip was trembling and Luke was avoiding your gaze.
“What is that supposed to mean?” You finally managed to gain some attitude and courage.
“You’re just going to leave me?”
“I don’t know.” He mumbled and folded his hands together before letting them glide into his pocket pants.
You furrowed your eyebrows confused wanting him to explain further. He couldn’t just shut down like this again you couldn’t come through when he was being like this.
“I just can’t stop looking at you and thinking how horrible I’ve treated you.”
“But we were this close to the finish line of communication and you just dropped that all because of nothing!” You were sounding so defeated and the tears had clouded your eyes so much you weren’t able to see straight.
“Why can’t we just be friends and work it out?”
“Because I don’t want you to be my friend Y/N.” He quickly responded in a deep and dark tone, a bit of a contrast to the one he had before.
That one was the one to crack everything. You didn’t understand why he was being like this, there was no reason for it. He should have understood from this point that you had forgiven him for everything but he had to step in the past.
“I have to leave.”
You looked up so quick from the floor just to double check his words. But he meant them and headed over to the couch to grab his jacket and threw it over his shoulders.
There was something inside of you that just wanted to grab him and stop him but you didn’t.
But you let the tears stream down. At first it was slowly but as he headed towards the door and you hiccupped he looked over his shoulder to glance at you.
“Please don’t leave me.” You almost whispered, you weren’t so sure if he’d heard you or not.
“I have to leave because I can’t bear seeing you cry.”
You shook your head in disbelief and turned around to remove the tears from your eyes, you didn’t want to look at him and neither seeing him walk out of the door.
You could tell that he was standing and considering what he should do because you could see his reflection in the windows ahead of you.
If you had ever felt disappointment in your life nothing could come close to this as he grabbed the door to walk out, making sure to close it as quietly as possible but it felt loud like a bang to you.
“Oh my god.” You shook your head in disbelief and fell onto the couch with your hands in your face, your heart racing so fast you were sure it would pop out of your chest.
Summary- Ash is being distant, so Luke and you make him jealous and he feels really bad about it so he makes it up to you. (This is so emotional, brb crying)
-
Backstage after a concert was always lively. The adrenaline still pumping and everyone congratulating the boys. A ritual of some sorts. You, being Ashton’s girlfriend were present backstage as well. As soon as they ran off stage you went to Ashton to give him a hug but he just brushed you off saying, “Not now, Y/N. I’m tired”
You were hurt and you felt rejected so you went and sat on the couch in the common dressing room. Now that you really thought about it, Ashton had been acting distant and you couldn’t help but think the worst that some other girl probably had his attention and he was going to break it off with you. You groaned and buried your face in your hands.
“You alright, YN?” You heard the voice of Luke questioning your current, clearly not alright state. “Does it look like I’m alright?” you snapped at him, instantly regretting lashing out since he wasn’t the one you were angry with. “What’s wrong?” he asked sounding genuinely concerned so you let out a heavy sigh and patted the spot next to you on the couch.
He obliged and sat next you, keeping a respectful distance. “It’s Ashton, isn’t it?” he said before you could start. You merely nodded your head before elaborating. “He’s been so distant lately and I can’t even remember the last time we were intimate. He didn’t want to hug me today, for fucks sake. I wouldn’t be surprised if he found someone better. These girls are always throwing themselves at him, I guess its about time.”
“Hey, hey Y/N, don’t say that. He’s crazy about you and I know for a fact he wouldn’t cheat on you. He doesn’t even look at other girls. But you’re right about him being distant. He’s been like that with us as well.” Luke paused to take a breath before looking around the room. Suddenly, his eyes lit up and he looked like he just had the greatest idea in the world and it might just have been as he said this, “Let’s make him jealous. That ought to get a reaction out of him.” You nodded your head eagerly and as if on cue, the other three boys walked in the room.
You started laughing loudly causing all of them to look at you confused. “Oh, Lukey, you’re so funny.” you put a hand on his shoulder and squeezed lightly. His face contorted into one of understanding as he played along. “Nah, Y/N you’re just flattering me. I guess you’re a sweetheart like that.” He put his hand on your thigh, slightly high for it to be just friendly.
You gauged the reaction of the other boys and Calum and Michael’s eyes were bulging out of their sockets while Ashton didn’t seem really phased. You decided to kick it up a notch and scooted closer to Luke so that your knees were touching now. “Have I ever told you how beautiful you are, Y/N?” Luke asked and that seemed to get Ashton’s attention as his eyes were trained on you. Calum and Michael’s jaws dropped, literally to the floor and you started blushing.
“It’s been a while since anyone’s called me that” as soon as you said that you could’ve sworn a look of guilt flashed across Ashton’s face, but you didn’t drop the act as yet. You wanted Ashton to stop it. Luke reached his hand up to your face and tucked a stray strand of hair behind your ear. You leaned in closer to Luke and he did as well. You only felt his breath on your lips for a split second before he was practically thrown across the room.
“Get your hands off my girlfriend mate.” Ashton’s voice boomed across the dressing room. He had Luke pinned to the floor and was about to swing a punch before he was caught by Michael and Calum. Luke scrambled out from underneath him and Ashton struggled against his band members grip. “Don’t you dare fucking get close to her again. She’s mine.” Ashton was stern with his words and absolutely did not expect the next words that came out of Luke’s mouth. “Maybe if you hadn’t been acting like a complete dick and taking her for granted, I wouldn’t have.”
At once, he stopped struggling and turned to face you, at the edge of your seat now. “Maybe you guys should leave.” you said and they nodded in understanding and left the room without uttering another word. “Is it true? What Luke said?” Ash asked and walked over to you. You nodded and looked to him. He walked over to you and it was as if his legs gave way as he was on his knees in front of you. “I’m so so sorry, Y/N. I didn’t do it intentionally” he buried his face in your knees and you lightly placed your hands on either side of his face. He looked up at you and you said, “I love you Ash, nothing could ever change my feelings toward you. I just fear that yours are changing.”
He looked crushed, to say the least. “Let me show you how much I love you, Y/N. I want to worship every inch of you.” you feebly nodded and he reached upward to capture your lips in a sweet innocent kiss. The kiss slowly progressed into a needy, emotional one and he found his place on top of you. He detached and you took a deep breath, feeling the lack of oxygen. His lips were on your cheek then your jaw, your neck and kept progressing downward till they were at the waist band of your pants. He pulled them down with ease and began kissing your inner thighs. Feeling hot and bothered, you pulled your t-shirt over your head and discarded it. You felt him smirk against your skin at your eagerness.
“So beautiful” you heard him mutter and he placed an opened mouth kiss over your clit. You squirmed underneath him and he took the band of your panties in his mouth before letting it go causing it snap against your skin. You felt yourself getting damper and let out a low mewl. “Ash, please”
It had been so long and you didn’t know if you could last at all. “No teasing, please” you breathed out and somehow Ashton listened to you. He got off of you for what felt like less than a second as he peeled his sweaty tank top off him and his jeans. You, too, did quick work in ridding yourself of your bra. He pulled your panties off of you and kissed you slowly again. You reached your hand in between the two of you and pushed his boxers down, just enough to grab his ever growing length in your hand and pumping it. Ashton moaned loudly and buried his face in your neck. You rubbed your thumb across the tip and you knew he was rock hard now.
You pushed his boxers down further and used your legs to push it off of him completely. “I love you baby” he breathed into your neck while positioning himself at your entrance. He pushed in slowly and you swore you felt your eyes roll to the back of your head. It stung slightly but that disappeared once Ash started sucking on your neck, sure to leave a hickey. “So fucking tight” he murmured and you replied with a loud moan. “Fuck, Ash”
His hips moved against yours, rolling them together. Pulling out almost entirely, before thrusting back in. Skin slapping against skin and his moans consumed you. Ashton consumed you. “I’m so in love with you” he half grunted out. “I-I love you Ash” you struggled out. You arched your back so your chest was flush against his. “I’m close” he moaned, scrunching his eyes shut. “Mhmm” you said quietly and the knot in your stomach exploded leading you to scream loudly. “God, Ashton!” you released around him.
He let out a string of curse words when he felt you contract around him. He rode out your high and in a few more thrusts he came inside you. His body went limp and he fell on you. You were exhausted too. “I never want to stop falling for you.” he said looking straight into your eyes. You placed a lingering kiss on his forehead. Ash and you stayed like that, cuddling, talking and what felt like falling in love all over again.
I made my way to my best friends house. I had called to give her a heads up but she didn’t even care. It was stupid that I had this much sadness built up in my chest like I’ve had my feelings hurt from Luke before but not like this.
When I pass Jaxton’s school, I felt every emotion succumb me. I started to bawl as I just gripped the steering wheel tighter. It didn’t fucking help when I heard Luke’s voice come over the radio, fucking Youngblood. I slam my hand into the volume and it turned off completely.
I come to a halt outside of Megan’s house, I wipe off my tears and grab my purse. I open her door and locked it once I was in. “Y/n?” Megan’s voice comes from the kitchen and I make my way there. I see her sticking two spoons into a carton of cookie dough ice cream. She takes my hand as she leads us to her couch.
“Max is asleep so cry all you want, he’s a heavy sleeper.” She refers to her fiancé and I nod. I take a huge bite of the ice cream before letting my ass breakdown.
“Scarlett wanted to see Jax tomorrow and you know how much I dislike her because of every time she lets him down. I was telling Luke this and he just defended her, he snapped at me and it broke my fucking heart.” I try to choke back the sobs as I turn my head to the side.
“What did he say, babe?” She asks and I wipe my tears off. “That I wasn’t his biological mom and he’d never be my birth child, so I had no say in it.” I put my palms on top of my eyes and let myself sob harder.
“I guess I am so upset over it because I’ve always subconsciously considered that Scarlett would just waltz back into Luke’s life and take both of them away from me. So in the end, she did.” I hiccup it out and she was rubbing my back gently, I just to steady my breathing.
“C’mon eat some ice cream so you’ll calm down, take some time to relax.” She coaxes and I take a nibble of some ice cream.
The irrational fear I had over Scarlett was stemmed from me starting off as Luke’s best friend. I had always had a crush on him but I never stepped in, I had fallen for someone so my crush surfaced. I never imagined I would end up in the spot of his girlfriend or a mother-figure, not that it mattered now.
“I think Luke probably feels guilty about the court situation, I know you’re going to jump to the fact of how he chose to do it and she put herself in that situation. It’s just that you’re only seeing it from your side as the girl who is taking care of Jax and is in love with Luke. You’re letting your momma bear side of you affect how open-minded you usually are. You’re personalizing it because you fear that you aren’t enough for either of them.” She voices and I would literally pay her to drop out of her psychiatry major.
“I know I’m being close-minded but how could I not when it comes to Scarlett?” I ask and she grabs my hand softly. “You’re his mom Y/n, it may not be by a natural source, but he is your son. I doubt that he enjoys hanging out with her rather than with you. You kiss him goodbye and went to the mother&son dance with him. He didn’t invite Scarlett, he invited you. I’m sure he loves to eat your French toast and make sure you’re the one who packs his lunch. Y/n he technically is yours.” She soothes and I take a deep breath in.
“I just don’t understand why Luke would say that.” I nibble on some more ice cream. “How many times have you ever had an argument with someone and you said something you instantly regretted because of something you didn’t mean?” She asks and I shrug, I knew where she was going with this. “A lot,” I mumble and she nods. “I’m not saying that he was in the right but he is your boyfriend of 3 years. If he didn’t want you in his life, he wouldn’t ask you to stay in his or his son's life. I know this for a fact because he literally interrogated me when I first came over.” She jokes and I smile at the memory.
She puts the lid back on the ice cream, she stands up and extends her hand to me. I get up with her and we go back into the kitchen. “I brought some clothes down earlier so that you could change into them.” She points to the chair and I just decided to change in here, she already said that Max was asleep.
“I want you to go to sleep on the couch and rest, you deserve to just sleep peacefully. I’ll go get the blankets and some pillows.” She says and I nod, I lay on the couch and stare up at the ceiling. She comes back quick and I stand back up to re-adjust. We both say our goodnights and she turns the light off on the way out.
——-
“Y/n, y/n.” Someone was shaking me awake, for a second I forgot the argument and I just assumed it was Jax. My eyes pop open and I see Megan’s figure standing over me.
“What’s up?” I groggily ask and she hands me the phone. “Luke is on mute but he’s called me twice now because there’s something wrong with Jax.” She says and I sit up quickly.
“Luke?” I ask frantically as I sit up, I was hardly asleep now. “I’m sorry for bothering you right now but Jax has been crying and screaming for you, it’s been 20 minutes now and he won’t calm down. Please come help me and I’ll be out of your hair.” He sounded helpless and I could even hear the yells. “Okay, I’m leaving soon.” I hung up the phone and passed it to her.
“Jax is freaking out, I’ve gotta go,” I say as I grab my other clothes and I throw on my shoes.
The drive home felt like a blur but then again I was probably driving too fast. I pull into the driveway and was almost a foot out of the door, I run up the steps and get my house key ready. When I opened the door I could still hear the yelling. I bound up the stairs and l see Luke pacing outside of his door.
“Luke?” I grab his attention and he looks up, his eyes were littered with tears and heavy bags underneath. “I know you didn’t want me to call you but I need you, he wanted you to do the thing that always helps.” He pulls his curls and I nod.
“Jaxton, sweetheart?” I ask and he couldn’t hear me over the cries. I sit beside him on the bed and touch his hand softly. “Jax?” I ask and the sobs quietened, he opened his eyes that were screwed shut.
He was basically crawling into my lap and I traded places with him, I let him lay on my stomach. I let him calm down in my arms as I pushed my fingers through his hair. Every so often I hear him hiccup a bit. “Remember what we always do when this happens?” I ask and he nods. “I get my favorite books to read to you.” He whispers quietly and I smile slightly.
“You’re right, so what book are we reading tonight?” I ask and he perks up, his tiny feet start to run over to his bookshelf. I’m still amazed at how smart this boy is.
“Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes.” He tells me and I smile, I’ve listened to this book at least 10 times.
Once he reads the book to me, I could tell that he felt better about his dream. He didn’t seem so scared and anxious, so I sit up to let him lay back down.
“Are you ready to tell me about your dream or do you want to wait until breakfast?” I ask and he nods. “I had a bad dream that you left me because you didn’t love me anymore.” He says and I felt tears spring to my eyes, my heart breaking more. “Hey, you know how much I love you! You’re my favorite, more than daddy.” I whisper the last part and his giggles flooded over the pain.
“But I went to daddy’s room and you weren’t there.” His lips start to wobble and I grab his hand. “Did you only look in the room?” I ask and he nods. “Well, I was downstairs! I accidentally fell asleep on the couch, as you do sometimes. I’m sorry sweetheart.” I kiss his hand and he sits back up to be in my arms.
“Don’t do it again. I don’t want you to leave me.” He demands and I started to feel like shit about the whole fight. I knew I was his mom, I didn’t care about what Luke said at this point because I’m the one who helps him when he’s like this. I’m the one who wakes him up and usually makes sure he has his favorite bowl of cereal. Maybe I was the help but it was mostly out of love because helping is what a real mother would do.
“I won’t leave you ever again, you’re my baby.” I kiss his forehead. “Is it okay if I call you mommy? I don’t like my other mommy.” He sounded upset and I felt good even though it was a negative request. “Of course you can, you can call me mommy whenever you want.” I smile down at him and he finally lays back down.
“You need your sleep so we can get up and play,” I tell him and he nods. “Goodnight mommy!” He yells excitedly and I literally couldn’t stop smiling. “Goodnight baby.” I kiss his forehead before tucking him in.
I walk out and sit on top of the staircase, I felt Luke’s presence as he sat down beside me. I didn’t want to address the elephant in the room because I was too happy over Jaxton calling me mommy.
“Can we talk?” Luke asks and the happy balloon popped. “Yeah, we need to,” I reply and he stands up. “Let’s do it somewhere else, I don’t want him to hear.” He says and I stand up too. We both walk down the stairs and make our way into the living room.
“I’m sorry y/n, I never meant to hurt your feelings. I know I’m an awful dad and boyfriend, I just am so stressed constantly. I feel guilty for how court turned out, I just always feel obligated to let her see him.” He explains and I nod, Megan would be great as a psychiatrist. Though next time I’m going to Lauren’s house because she’ll be angry with me instead of a mellow psychiatrist.
“First of all, you’re a great dad and even though we fight it doesn’t make you an awful boyfriend. I should’ve let you handle the situation with Scarlett, it was your problem to deal with. I do understand though, I know I’m not his mom but I want to be. I want to let him know I’m here for the long run. I don’t want to just leave things like we did tonight because I just witnessed how it affected Jax.” I sigh and Luke looked like he wanted to smile but he was unsure about it.
“Are you staying?” He asks and I nod slowly. “I’m still upset about what you said but I love you, I want to work through this. I may be the help or a babysitter, but you two have made my life better.” I tell him and he scrunches up his nose. He walks towards me and engulfs me in one of his bear hugs.
“You were never the help or the babysitter, you were just his mom. I never ever want you to think that and I’m sorry I said something I didn’t mean.” He spoke as he pulled away. I was still in his arms and I could see the tears coming up.
“I’m sorry that I left without resolving anything, we made a promise a long time ago to stop leaving things unsaid or fixed. I don’t want to lose you or Jax.” I felt my lip quiver, he kisses my forehead softly and I wrap my arms around his neck to pull him into another hug.
He lifts me up and starts to make his way up the stairs, he opens the door to our room and puts me on my side of the bed. He comes around the other side and lays down, moving closer to my side.
“Are we good, like for sure?” He asks and I nod. “We’re good, I love you,” I tell him and he leans forward to leave a kiss on my lips. He pulls back and just moves me into his arms, his hand was underneath my shirt. He was rubbing circles on my hips softly, I just rested in the crease of his neck.
“Scarlett texted me after you left.” He says and it killed the mood, way to go Luke. I pull myself back to see his face. “She said she changed her mind, said she had other plans.” He states and I wanted to laugh, but I didn’t want to start another fight over her. “So What did you say?” I ask and he grins a little.
“That Jaxton already had a mom and that she needed to stop asking to come over because in the end she just lets Jax down.” He sounded so sassy and it made me laugh, but my heart was full that he called me Jaxton’s mom.
“Sassy Luke for the comeback.” I joke and put myself back in his neck. He pulled back to kiss my jawline and cheeks, he moved to my lips. He was more passionate than usual, it seemed like he was trying to prove or fix us. His thumbs were rubbing both sides of my head, I was gripping his bare hip. He pulled away and just stared at me.
“You do know I think you’re the love of my life and that I share these things with you because I value your opinions, right?” He asks and I nod. “I understand now,” I admit and he nods, he kisses my lips once more.
“Would it be cliche to propose tonight?” He asks against my lips and I groan.
“Yes, so don’t do it tonight.”
I feel like this didn’t slap like part one so I’m sorry y’all.
I felt so giddy and happy, the rush of excitement flooded my body. I was honestly so nauseous just because of how much energy was building.
“You’re fucking pregnant!” My best friend shakes my arm a little, she came with me to the doctor because I was feeling a little queasy. I would’ve asked Ashton, but he was somewhere in the world doing interviews.
“I am, I’m fucking pregnant.” I started to cry happy tears and she engulfs me in a hug. “Hey, it’s just a baby, don’t be sad.” She rubs my back soothingly. “I know! I’m just so happy, I get to have my own baby and family.” I smile through the tears. “How are you going to tell Ash?” She asks and I shrug. “Well, he flies back tonight and we have dinner with his mom tomorrow night. Should I do it there?” I ask and she nods vigorously. “We need to find something cute to do.” She suggests and I nod along.
“Well, Mrs. Irwin, you are free to go. We looked at your blood work and it seems that your iron is a little low. We suggest some low-dose iron pills if you become anemic it can interfere with how small your baby can be.” The doctor comes back into the room and tells me, he hands me a slip that had the name of the medicine.
“Thank you, we were going by the store anyway.” I smile towards her and she nods. “Congratulations to you, just stop by the front desk to check out.” She shakes my hand before leaving the room. “I’m gonna search Pinterest for some ideas, you get to drive my dear. You’re no longer sick, you’re just pregnant.” My friend jokes and I roll my eyes.

“What if we got like a vinyl record, like an old one that he probably won’t even know, we paint over the title; after that, we can put ‘for the record, I’m pregnant.’ It would be so cute.” Leslie suggests as we pull up to CVS. “Awe, that would be so cute. We could go downtown to that old record shop.” I wanted to cry all over again because I was so happy.
“I don’t know how you’re gonna hold this in all day when Ashton comes home.” She laughs as we get out of the car. “Well, I’ll try my hardest.” I laugh and we walk towards the pharmacy.
“Well, you’re going to need these, for sure.” Leslie puts prenatal vitamins in the basket. “Look for Vitron-C, it’s what he wrote down,” I tell her and we both start scanning the aisle. “Ah, found it!” I say and bend down to grab it.
“Does CVS even sell paint?” She asks and I shrug. “Maybe we can get the kid ones, I mean it’s not like we’re doing a huge project. We only need to paint the circles on both sides.” I tell her and she nods. “Then we can just find a silver sharpie and write on the record.” Leslie insists and I smile. “I’ll go find the kid paint, you find the sharpies, meet back at the candy,” I demand and she walks off.
I wander around until I find the paint, a few sections down I see some baby clothes and my heart quenches. I’ve never been so happy with my life, I mean besides our wedding. I grab the paint and then move to the baby items, I run my hands over it. I shake it off and go towards the candy, I put some m&ms in the basket. Leslie comes up to me and puts a pack of sharpies in the basket. “Let’s go so we can get the record.”
—-
When we both get home from the record shop, we automatically start painting the paper that was covering part it. “Leslie, you can write it because I have horrible handwriting.” I slide the vinyl to her and she sighs.
It gets quiet as she starts to write on both sides. “Do you have any spray paint?” She asks after she finished writing on it. “Probably our in the garage, why?” I ask as she stands up with the cardboard casing for the record. “I’m going to go spray paint this so he can’t see the artist. You stay here because you don’t need to inhale this.” She pats my head like a little kid.
—-
“Well babe, I’ve had so much fun with you and I’m so fucking excited to be an aunt. I love you so much.” She kisses my cheek and I smile. “Thank you, Aunt Leslie, for the win.” I hug her tightly. “Make sure you film his reaction. I’ll see you on the flip side.” She waves as she exits out the front door.
I grab the record and try to find a place to hide it. I go into the garage and hide it in the tiny safe we had in there.
I grab my phone and call my mom, I needed to tell her before I go to the Irwin’s tomorrow.
“Hello?” My mom answers and I smile. “Hey mom, I’ve got some big news for you.” I grin and I hear her gasp, she could tell already. “Let me go put you on the speaker phone with your dad.” I could hear her basically running into the room. “Listen to this.” I hear her demand my dad. “Guys, I’m pregnant. I found out today.” I hear them both scream and gasp. “I’m so happy! I’m going to be a grandma!” My mom sounded like she was crying. “I just wan- hey guys I got to hang up. Ashton is calling me.” I look at his caller ID. “Well, you two need to fly to America so I can see you.” She kindly demands and I smile. “Will do, I love you guys. Bye.” I hang up.
“Hey, babe,” I answer and I could feel his smile. “Hey, I was wondering if you were ever going to pick up.” He jokes and I smile, I was so glad to hear his voice. “Yeah, I was on the phone with my mom, but we were done anyways. What’s up?” I ask and he sighs a little. “Well, I won’t be able to be home until like 2 am, so I was calling to tell you not to wait up. You need your rest and when you wake up, I’ll be there.” He sounded sad but I knew he’d be there as soon as I woke up. “That’s okay baby, I’m not upset. You’re going to be with me for a couple of months and that’s all I need. Plus, we have the meal with your family tomorrow.” I soothe him and he chuckles a little. “You know how to fix everything, don’t you?” He sounded less sad. “It’s what I do, baby I’m going to get off the phone. I’m feeling a little sick so I’m going to go eat. I love you and I’ll see you tomorrow.” I say my goodbyes and he seemed a little worried. We end the call and I rub my belly a little.
I didn’t want to have that pregnancy where I felt like throwing up every day, so eating crackers calmed my pregnancy jitters. I lay on the couch and turn on Cake Boss. My eyes fluttered shut before I could even see what the cake looked like.
When I woke up I felt someone lifting me up, my eyes opened up wide because of the fear. The first thing I saw was Ashton’s sweet smile. “Hey baby, you fell asleep on the couch. I just got home so I thought I’d carry my lovely bride up the stairs.” He tells me as he presses a kiss to my forehead. “Thanks, Ash, I love you.” I snuggle myself into his chest. “Let’s get some pajamas on, you don’t need to sleep in skinny jeans. He changed me into some shorts and one of his shirts. I sigh contently as I lay my head on my pillows. Ash comes to his side and wraps me in his arms. “Night baby.” He kisses my forehead once more before we both fall asleep.
—-
“Morning, sleepyhead.” I hear Ashton’s voice as I come to. “What are you doing up?” I ask and he giggles. “I’ve been up for an hour, it’s 12 baby, you looked so peaceful I didn’t want to wake you.” He says and he kisses my nose and I grin. “You should have woke me up with you.” I wrap my arm around his neck and he pushes me up against him. His arms were around my waist and I snuggle myself in the crease of his neck.
“I’m so glad you’re home.” I kiss his neck softly and he squeezes me a little tighter. “I’ve missed you so much, I’m surprised you are still married to me. Can’t believe I found someone who wants to wait around for me when I’m busy around the world.” He sighs softly and I lift my head up. “Well I didn’t marry you for your job, I married you because you’re the love of my life. Your job is just a part of you.” I peck his lips lightly.
He pushes me on my back and hovers over me, his eyes were gleaming as he took in the moment. “I’m so fucking in love with you, look at you though. You’re so beautiful and you have this glowing skin. I just want to kiss and hold you all day long.” He lowers himself down and pushes his lips on mine. I wrap my arms around his neck once more, but this time I pull him down to me. He was trying to situate his weight but I didn’t care honestly. I allow his tongue entrance and he was taking dominance.
He moves his kissing down to my neck and I sigh contently. He starts to move to my boobs, but I didn’t realize how much they were hurting, so I push him off gently. “We’re going to your moms in 4 hours, let’s not have any marks that need to be covered.” I lie as he backs up, I knew it was probably due to the pregnancy.
I’ve honestly been lowkey reading pregnancy books for months, it’s just something I wanted to do and we’ve been married for a year. I wanted a baby so bad and now I know a lot of knowledge just from the books. “You’re right, let's go watch some Criminal Minds.” He suggests as he jumps over me, he picks me up and carries me downstairs. “I love you so much,” I whisper quietly, I didn’t know if he heard me or not, but I just knew how much he meant to me.
—-
“Anne!” I giddily yell and hug her, she wraps her arm around me. I feel someone tugging me away and I look back to see Lauren. “There’s my girl,” I say and I give her a hug too. “Can I show you my prom dress and stuff later?” She asks and I nod quickly. “Uh, duh. You know I’m your forever person hype-woman.” I tell her and she smiles softly. “Thanks.” We link arms as we go into the living room. “Can you actually walk outside with me for a moment?” I ask and she seemed worried.
“Ash, we’re going to the car! I forgot my phone out there.” I lie and he looks back at me and nods. He turns back to his little brother showing him videos of his drumming.
“What’s wrong?” She asks as we walk down the sidewalk. I make sure we’re out of ear shot by walking to the car quicker, I open the trunk quickly. I pull out the record and show her what it says, her eyes widen quickly. “You’re kidding! Oh my god, I’m so happy for you.” She hugs me tightly and I wanted to start crying. “I need to get this inside but I don’t know how to bring it in without Ashton knowing,” I say and she ponders for a second. “You go in first and be all lovey-dovey, I’ll sneak in after and put it in my room.” She plans and I nod.
I walk in and find Ash sitting on the recliner. Luckily it was turned away from the door. I sat on his lap and he smirks slightly. “Finally realize I’m the best person in the house?” He asks and I shrug. “I don’t know, I never thought you were the best.” I tease and he fake gasps. “How dare you!” He exclaims as he also fakes a pout.
I see Lauren start to dash towards the stairs. “I love you,” I whisper and kiss his neck softly. “Don’t start something you can’t finish, baby.” He whispers back and I grin. “Supper is ready!” Anne yells and I perk up. “Oof, gotta blast.” I jump up and don’t even wait for Ash, I was already at the dinner table. “I still wonder why I married you.” He jokes under his breath, he sits beside me and grabs my hand.
——
Everyone was finished with supper and most of them were drinking wine, well just Ashton and Anne. “Well, did you not want any? I’ll go get you some.” Ashton says and I shake my head. “One of us has to drive, remember?” I admit, that and I’m freaking pregnant.
“I’m gonna go get a glass of water,” I say and look at Lauren, she picks it up and we both stand. “I could go for some sprite.” She says and we both head towards the kitchen. “I’ll go get it and you make a glass of water. That way if Ashton passes out, we have something to splash on him.” She jokes and I nod, I grab a plastic cup from the cabinet and put water into it.
I go back to the living room and sit by Ashton on the loveseat. Lauren comes in with it in her hand, Ashton notices it when she sits on the floor in front of him. I see her pull out her phone and she sneakily records us. “What’s that Lauren? You got me a welcome home present?” He teases and she shakes her head. “It’s actually one from y/n.” She states and he looks at me expectingly. “Yep, I admit that it was me.” I put my hands up in defense. “You shouldn’t of.” He kisses my cheek before picking it up. “Well, I wasn’t gonna take it back,” I mumble to myself.
He pulls the record out and I think he was so caught up trying to figure out who the artist was. Suddenly, his eyes shift to the words. “For the record,” he turns the record over and his eyes go big, “I’m pregnant.” He ended up yelling it. “You’re pregnant? For real?” He asks and I nod. “Oh my god! I’m a dad!” He says as he tackles me into the couch, but he pulls back shortly after. “Hey, there little Irwin. I love you so much already.” He whispers toward my stomach and I feel tears cloud up.
We’ve been wanting a child for so long and his reaction just summed it up. Lauren turns off her phone and joins our little hug. “I’m gonna be the best aunt.” She says as she pulls away.
Anne stands up with tears in her eyes. “I’m so happy guys, l love you too so much.” We stand up so she can hug us.
She pulls away quickly and I see her demeanor change. “But I fucking knew it! You’ve got the beautiful glow, you ate much more than usual, and you had that little twinkle of happiness in your eyes.” She laughs and I groan, “you know me too well.” I say.
“So, does that mean I get to be an uncle?” Harry catches our attention and we nod. “Awesome.” He says to himself. “Yeah bud, it’s pretty awesome.” Ashton comments, he looks and me and kisses me quickly.
“What in the world is going on?” Your voice was just as surprised as your face and your eyes were to the point of popping out from your head.
“What?” Luke asked almost confused and took a look down at his clothing.
“I’m supposed to be dressed as a poor, right?”
Rolling your eyes deeply by his words you rolled out the chair in front of your desk and took the small around the wooden surface to stand in front of him.
“What do you mean you’re supposed to be dressed as poor? Isn’t that shirt from H&M?” You asked and crossed your arms to show a bit of attitude. The mood swings had not left, in fact it had come to the point where Luke loved testing your temper for the fun of it.
“Yes?” He directed and looked down at himself for a short moment, “I just changed! And I even managed to make my hair look all loose see! It doesn’t go all the way back and I’ve got some curls sticking out here and there.”
“But for what?” You asked and loosened your arms to grab the papers from your desk and take a look. You were still at work after all and he had required you to do a few things before you would leave.
“I’m going with you to the lamaze class!”
“You’re what?” You questioned, it was like you had to double check what he was saying and if you heard correct. He almost had to repeat himself that was how unsure you were of hearing right.
“Yes! I know you told me you had spoken to Dr. Sullivan about it and since I expect I’m going to be a part of it might as well be prepared. Though you don’t think we’re gonna actually watch a mom give birth because if so I’m gonna need myself to prepare for PG-13.”
“Yes we’re probably going to watch it. But why dressed like that?” You asked once again to clear out the confusion and nodded at his outfit.
The usual suit and tie had been changed out into something rather cozy and comfortable. It was almost like the clothes he wore at home when he wasn’t doing some sort of work, you were pretty surprised to see him like this.
But it also put some thoughts to your mind because you hadn’t even spoken about Luke being a part of the birth you had expected for him to be too prissy to be a part of something like that.
“You know I just want to fit in.” He said causally like it his outfit wasn’t bothering him and tried to play it cool.
“Can’t you just show up in a suit like you normally do? What will all the other staff members think when we will take the small walk from our office and to the exit many floors down?” You lifted your eyebrows after thinking it through.
“Well we can’t have that happen we’ll just take a short cut only made for me. Can’t have people to see me look this...”
“Poor?” You finished his sentence like it wasn’t bothering you that he still considered you to be a part of the homeless.
He smiled softly by your attitude and nodded his head in agreement. He fished out a beanie from his pocket and along with his jacket that was much fancier than the rest of the clothes he seemed ready to go.
“Just leave the rest of the papers behind. I think this is more important than work.” He winked with his left eye and watched you place the papers back onto the desk.
“You sure about this? I know it can be kind of disturbing?” You were still not fully convinced by his words.
“Come on I’ve seen Holly’s fanny. I don’t think it can become worse than that.”
The offensive side of his was still there and even if you were a polite person you still couldn’t avoid the laughter that came from your lips. It was funny how he had changed since the December incident because he had become a different person when it came to Holly.
You weren’t sure if it was because of the two of you growing closer together or if it was him starting to realize something but you preferred this much more than you getting all the harsh words.
Things had been gone quite well the past few days, actually weeks.
You had been living with Luke and it had been so nice. It was like you were getting to know each other in a whole different way, he had become a person that was much more open to the fact of getting to know each other.
He was there when you needed him, he wasn’t being a complete jerk all the time and he was actually being nice.
Not in the way where he wanted to buy everything. Sure, he still used money here and there but it had become without the attitude of ‘I can buy everything because I’ve got all the money I need’. It was like it had become with a different person and he wasn’t the one to brag about the stuff he had bought.
You were so sure he had been buying so many stuff for the baby girl it was insane. He was denying to let you buy anything but he still made sure that you were a part of what was going to be in her room and not. You still waited a bit though with preparing the room because it still felt a bit early.
But it was also important that it was done soon. With Luke’s busy schedule and also being a few months away from finishing the movie it was the only thing he was spending his time on.
Sometimes he would sit in the living room with his head in his hands trying to figure out what was going on and not. He still wanted the script to be perfect he didn’t leave out a single detail to not being interpreted.
You wanted to help out but you still felt a little bit distanced. It wasn’t because you weren’t enjoying the time with him, hell it was something you had secretly wished for so long. You just wanted to get along with him in the right way.
It had been so long to reach this point but you were so happy that you were on track with each other.
Luke had somehow become the person to impress you, but in a whole other level than he did when you first started working for him.
Back then it was all about the money. It was all about making sure that he would buy you everything and show you that life could be bought to happiness. He was ignorant back then, he didn’t understand the concept of getting to know each other and not solve problems by buying someone a helicopter.
Now he was doing anything to impress you, but in a whole different way.
He was doing anything to prove that he could solve stuff without picking out his check book. He was doing the dishes, he did like he just did now where he would wear something that wasn’t over a simple $20 and he was also cutting down his staff so you didn’t need to have people to do stuff for you all the time.
It did of course have some mis-benefits because Luke wasn’t the strong one in the kitchen and neither were you.
Countless of times you had managed to burn the food in the oven or burning something on a pan, heck you could barely make simple microwaved popcorn in the microwave. It ended up in smoke being everywhere and the popcorn wasn’t able to be eaten and enjoyed.
But it was what made everything a challenge and the both of you shared that joy.
It was ten times funnier messing up in the kitchen rather than getting something served every single day that wasn’t put care into. You could tell that Luke was enjoying it too because the connection you had was something very special.
Call it being the soon to be parent or not but there was something about him that you could never actually brush off your shoulders.
The bond you had grown was also most importantly because you hadn’t seen the shadow of Holly since you moved back in.
Whether she had disappeared into ashes or not you weren’t sure but she was not seen in the apartment and you knew for sure it was Luke who had set up the rule.
Of course he had been out countless of times to do some PR work with her for the sake of Peter but you could tell as time was progressing he was enjoying it less and less. When he showed back home after a long day with her he would be moody and it was also affecting his behavior.
Sometimes you just wanted to ask him why he didn’t just cut it off but you assumed there was an important reason for it. So you avoided.
You had actually expected to see her at New Year’s Eve but you didn’t.
In fact you didn’t know half the people that showed up but you had decided to stay anyways. Sure, you were pretty much standing out because you weren’t wearing a fancy dress or drinking champagne but you felt comfortable being around them.
You assumed it was also because of Luke because he made sure to introduce you well, of course not announcing who was the father of your child but you made sure to keep it a secret and they seemed fond of you.
In fact, that night he didn’t even get as drunk as you had expected. Sure he drank along when someone yelled cheers and when the clock stroke midnight but he remained calm and comfortable. It was nice.
He also didn’t swoon all over the girls like you had imagined he would. It was like you had grown this impression of him you couldn’t get away from even though you knew he was slowly changing for the better.
He did also kiss you on the cheek during midnight instead of snogging it off with some other random girl. You were pretty surprised when you felt his lips on your skin, in fact your cheeks blushed up completely.
He had also been pretty surprised by his action, so surprised that he looked down at the champagne and in embarrassment and confusion offered you a class. It took him less than seconds to realize his little suggestion bummer and offered water instead.
You were actually so comfortable living with him that you had decided to move out from Ashton completely. It just made things so much easier and he was completely understandable about that situation.
It almost felt as if Ashton was in fact rooting for you and Luke to be together. You assumed it had something to do with his childhood and always wishing for him to have a fatherly role. He wanted that more than anything for your child to not be left behind without that.
So moving in again prominent felt better than just staying there for the nights. The routines were back, Holly wasn’t there to spoil anything and the only times you actually had to watch her when you were at the studio filming or if Luke and her were at one of the magazines you had at your office.
“You sure you want to come?” You asked one time just to make sure that he wasn’t just jumping into something he didn’t know much about.
“Two clueless idiots are better than one, right?” He asked back and you slowly nodded your head in agreement.
The only thing you were actually worrying about would be if someone recognized him and it wouldn’t be great if he had to sit with a beanie and sunglasses in the middle of January just to cover up himself.
But Luke did have a plan. If someone asked he just wanted to explain that you had grown a very close bond as boss and assistant and since the ‘father’ had bailed on you, he decided to step in and help instead.
That would show how much he actually cared for the people working for him and it would also prove that he was a nice person that could be with other woman and help them out but not actually cheat like they could imagine in magazines.
You still had an unconvinced look as you took the walk out to the exit of Luke’s building and when you were met by traffic you rolled your eyes.
“Luke we can’t make it in your car. It can’t even get the chance to get out from its parking lot.” You warned and pointed towards his car that was completely trapped.
“What? We can’t walk? Come on I’ll just take the car we’ll manage to get out.” He was trying to encourage you but you stopped by grabbing his arm. There was no time for traffic.
You nodded your head twice towards the sign that showed subway and he was very quick to understand what you were hinting at.
“No way.” He shook his head in disbelief and his eyes widened.
“We’re not taking the subway.” He took one large step back but you still kept him by the arm.
“Come on Luke it’s not that bad, it stops right below where the birth class is held and we don’t have to worry about the traffic.” You were becoming impatient so your tone rose a bit.
“Y/N! Germs! No!”
“Luke! You’re one giant germ! Get over yourself.” You rolled your eyes deeply and without hearing another complaining dragged him down the stairs to take the next subway that showed up.
You could tell that he was actually feeling a bit uncomfortable but he got through it. In fact you couldn’t tell what he was most worried about, someone bumping into your bump or just brushing him. He was a huge hater of germs you knew that he still had cleaning staff at home to take care of it.
When you came to the birth class it was barely in the last minute and everyone else were already prepared in a large circle with a fake baby in their hands.
You were showing up just as everyone was introducing each other, you being one of the last ones in the circle where there was space to sit.
It was actually fun seeing the differences in everyone. Some were very young, some were in the middle while others were very old. Some came alone, some were three and others just a pair like you and Luke. Not to mention the gender reveals and two moms carrying twins.
“And the last couple here.” The attention was suddenly pointed on you when the lamaze teacher, Kiara Rose looked down at you with a smile.
“Yeah uh-,” You looked over at Luke unsure but he was quick to guide you in a direction.
“Hello everyone, my name is Mark Button and this is my wife Y/N.” He introduced so quick you were trying not to look surprised at him.
“Why are you doing a fake accent?” That was the first thing that came to your mind it was a mix of Texas but also a little bit British. It sounded so horrible and you didn’t even want to get started on his name.
“I’m playing a character.” He whispered back like it wasn’t obvious.
“And we’re carrying a baby girl whose name we haven’t figured out yet.” He explained, still going on with the accent that didn’t sound better the more he spoke.
“Aren’t you Luke Hemmings? The millionaire?” A black haired woman with bangs asked next to you, not looking fully convinced by Luke’s sudden new created character.
“No, no you’ve got it all wrong woman. I’m Mark Button!” He was trying to sell it but she didn’t look convinced.
“But you look exactly like him expect for the clothes?” She was a sneaky little fella but come on it wasn’t like Luke was dressed like superman.
“Yes, Luke is my distant cousin but I assure you I’m not him. You know, not that there would be something wrong with that he’s a great looking pal isn’t he?”
You rolled your eyes by Luke’s words and sincerely hoped you could get over the talking and start the class instead of him making a more fool of you. The accent was to throw up for even though deep inside it was hilarious.
“Okay then.” The black haired woman answered and looked up at her husband with furrowed eyebrows but didn’t have much more to say.
“Well without further ado, let’s start the class then.” Kiara commented a little bit confused as but shook her head to get her attention to somewhere else.
“Just to give you all an overview of what is going to happen the typical class consists of lectures, discussions, and exercises, all led by a trained childbirth instructor which will be me. We will have a focus on each class to make you as prepared for your birth as possible and to also make sure we reduce the fear of giving birth the best we can.”
You nodded your head in agreement to Kiara’s words. It was so important to learn about this because even though you had borrowed books from the library it wasn’t like you fully understood what was being said.
“Our philosophy in the lamaze class is; birth is normal, natural, and healthy.” Kiara explained meanwhile you all had to change your positions to start the first breathing technique.
“Now you can all decide what way to sit because it all depends if you’re on the floor, in the hospital bed or placed in the bathtub or soothing the pain.”
“Does the hospital have a jacuzzi?” Luke suddenly woke up with wide eyes and looked pretty interested at you.
“I don’t know.” You whispered back, “But don’t expect it to be a jacuzzi with bobbles, champagne and a little bath duck.”
“But if you could all just sit with the partner behind you so back and chest is facing, you will be able to train the breathing techniques in whatever position you are challenged to be at.”
You looked a bit unsure of Kiara’s suggestion but as everyone else did it you did it too. What what could possibly happen but if you had to listen to Luke’s comments all the time you were sure you would freak.
“So just like this or what?” Luke asked a bit more shy by the situation and nodded your head in agreement.
It was a good thing he wasn’t wearing a fancy suit because he would for sure have screamed about you curling his clothes. He was sitting half cross-legged so you could rest on his chest but without actually knocking him down.
“Now grab your partner’s hands and slowly breathe in and out.” Kiara instructed making you and Luke look up and down at each other.
It was like you were asked to do something really wild but you were both very unsure of what to do. Luke looked a bit careful almost as if he didn’t want to touch you, not because he was disgusted but more if he was allowed to.
“Come on.” Your voice was softer than normal and he leaned over to grab your hands gently.
You weren’t sure if you were supposed to link your fingers together or not but you did. It wasn’t like any of the others did it but as he did, you didn’t want him to let go. It was a nice feeling and his hands were warmer than yours despite the cold weather you had just walked through.
“When you're tense and frightened, your breathing becomes shallow and rapid. Your shoulders are pulled up towards your ears and your neck and shoulder muscles feel tight and rigid. We’re going to help you get control of that.” Kiara said and with her own partner just to illustrate showed how it was done.
“It's important to keep your breathing rhythmic. Don't let the in-breath become longer than the out-breath. If anything, your out-breath should be longer than your in-breath.” She explained and everyone listened carefully to follow along.
“Try closing your eyes for a moment. Focus on your breathing, and notice how rhythmic it is. You breathe in, then there's a slight pause before you breathe out.”
At first you squeezed one eye open just to catch along with what she was doing but she was quick to nod her head at you to shut both your eyes.
You weren’t sure if Luke was doing the same but you could feel his heartbeat pound against your back. You weren’t sure if he was stressing out or what but you could feel that he was completely calm.
In fact he was following Kiara’s instructions very carefully, he was doing it even better than you.
“I’m not sure I can do this, not in a stressed state of mind.” You mumbled a bit panicked but he was still remaining calm.
“No you’re doing fine.” He shook his head in disagreement to his words and looked up at Kiara shortly but she was standing with her back facing you.
“Screw this I don’t believe in this connection. You have to look at each other to reduce the stress the best you possibly can.” In one swift movement you were suddenly facing each other, hands still linked.
“You can feel my pulse in my hands, just follow my breathing through that.” He instructed and you shut your eyes again to let the other senses get to work.
It took some time but Luke was patient with this. He waited until you were both on the same level, letting all the air get into your lunges and paused until you were ready to breathe it out.
Even Kiara was very impressed like your technique because in the end it was all about finding out what worked the best for you as a couple.
“Very nice Y/N and Mike! Everyone should find that spot where you feel so comfortable with a person you can give it all the feelings you have through the hands. Breathing can be hard to control but easier with the best help you can get.”
Both your faces became red by her announcement it was a good thing you would be over with this soon.
In fact the lamaze class was quickly over but not before finishing it with a prepared “getting into labour video”. It was the start of something and as you met for more and more classes you would get the chance to see bits of more.
But what was weird was how Luke was suddenly changing beside you. It was like his face was slowly changing into something else the more you watched the video and as it was over for now you looked at him unsure.
“Are you okay?” You asked confused, noticing how he had changed attitude completely. He had become all pale in the face.
“Yes, I uh-, I’m alright.” He managed to say after swallowing deeply and grabbed after the tie that was usually wrapped around his neck but now it was gone.
You quivered your eyebrow confused by his acting and watched him pull out the hem of his shirt as if he was having trouble breathing. It was like he had been hit with something like a flu or suddenly feeling very bad.
“I uh-, I think I need some fresh air.” He swallowed again and stood up as you were about to ask if he was okay, his shadow disappearing quickly out of the door along with him.
You looked down with mixed feelings and confusion being spread on your face by his sudden behavior, a lump in your throat being formed and your stomach starting to twist.
The silence was what made it most awful. You were staring blankly at the air not really knowing what to say or what to do. It was obvious you were tired.
Luke was nothing else but the same. His eyes were dull and the strands of hair that had been tucked too much in frustration made it stick to every single direction possible.
No expression was changed once he opened the door to his apartment.
God how you couldn’t believe this was where you were going to spend the night.
24 hours ago you were standing in a way different position. You were excited, you were nervous as hell but overall you were looking forward to spend your Christmas with your beloved family.
It was like some sort of horrible nightmare when you woke up on the lazy black leather couch in the studio. The noises coming from the finally opened door seemed to wake you up.
But it wasn’t with happy feelings you finally got the chance to get out. Sharing the night with the two biggest idiots on the planet was the last thing you wanted to do and the whole evening was either spent in silence or listening to them arguing.
You couldn’t believe you had survived through the night. If it hadn’t been because of waking up so early you wouldn’t have managed to fall asleep so easily.
You could tell Luke had been struggling too. He had been on the constant watch, calling everyone he possibly could in hope of getting someone to help you out of the studio but it was impossible.
He felt defeated, he felt tired and overall just miserable. Not just because he had to spend the night with you and Holly but also because he knew what your plans had been up for.
It was barely 7 A.M before someone showed up to get you out. You couldn’t believe your eyes when the door was finally open and you could get out in the freedom.
But it wasn’t with a happy face. You didn’t catch your plane, there was no way you would be able to get a new ticket and the only thing you could think about was what to do now.
You couldn’t go back to the apartment because that meant sitting in silence. Ashton was out for the holidays as well, in fact he had gone all the way back to his hometown in Sydney to celebrate Christmas.
Luke wasn’t supposed to suggest it but once he slipped past his lips both your eyes widened.
You knew he wasn’t supposed to do anything for Christmas instead it sounded like he was going to work. But instead of sitting alone and feeling miserable you decided to follow him to his penthouse apartment.
But it was like all the bad memories seemed to float once you were right inside of the old familiar place.
And that was when the awkwardness started.
You looked up at him unsure of what to do. You weren’t sure if you should just head back to your old room and just stay there for the night. His penthouse wasn’t even decorated for Christmas.
He was standing with a blank expression on his face. You knew he hadn’t done much but just having phone calls and pacing around in confusion.
You both stared at each other at the same time but it was quickly changed when he coughed to get the attention somewhere else.
“Go up and take a shower. Get changed into something nice.”
You looked confused by his order but decided to go with it. You didn’t want to start an argument, hell you barely wanted to speak to him in the first place. You just needed a small hour just to be alone.
Rolling your suitcase towards the stairs you lifted it carefully and hurried up to what you still assumed to be your bedroom.
You were pretty surprised because everything about it was the same. The exact same furniture, some of your clothes were still in the closet because you didn’t want to bring it with you since Luke had bought it.
It was like you had never moved out in the first place. Everything about it looked the same you even took a look at the what was supposed to be nursery in the room next to yours. It looked just like it had done when you left it.
It was with a bit of confusion as to what was going on you lifted your suitcase on the top of the mattress and opened it. It almost had everything you owned because you had expected you would also celebrate New Year’s Eve in Maine.
You could hear puzzles coming from downstairs but you shrugged it off. Whatever Luke had in mind you didn’t want to share a thought about it and you also made sure to take the longest bath that was possible.
You were only out after two hours because that was how long you had been standing in the shower in thoughts. You didn’t really understand what was going on but a night of just Holly and Luke had made you reconsider your life.
Putting on something fancy was easy to say. You didn’t want to wear some of the clothes he had bought for you so you went with what you had in fact planned to wear for Christmas Eve.
It was simple, it wasn’t a problem to the bump and it was something you felt very comfortable wearing. It had become hard in the fifth month of pregnancy you couldn’t believe that the ballon that was so called your stomach would continue to grow massive.
Your eyes widened in surprise and you stopped in the middle of the stairs when you noticed what was going on.
The whole living room had basically been transformed. It had been such a while since you had seen so many people work at once with the same things.
The whole place had turned into something from a Christmas catalog.
Some were standing in the kitchen preparing a meal that could be served for over a 100. Patrick was walking around with various glasses of fancy red wine that would fit for what you assumed to be the dinner and someone was preparing a Christmas tree in the middle of the room.
You stood completely frozen not really knowing what to say but you were so amazed so many people had managed to take their time out just to do this.
“What in the serious fuck is going on?” You asked with such confusion in your tone you could barely recognize it was coming out from your mouth.
Luke looked over his shoulder and you noticed how he had changed as well but also shaved. He was wearing a nice dress shirt that you hadn’t seen before and added with a black tie that had a small Santa in the bottom of it.
His hands found their way down to his pants pockets and he looked down at his shoes almost nervously.
“I can’t help but blame myself for you not catching your plane to go celebrate Christmas in Maine,” He looked up with one eye squeezed shut and folded his lips to show his deep dimple.
“So I brought the Christmas to you.”
You stood completely frozen again and watched over his shoulder as people were working hard to make it all be prepared and ready.
You had no idea what to say or how to even react. You were so torn in your feelings and it was giving you a hard time to come up with a answer that seemed proper for the situation.
“Are you insane?” It was with a mix of still a bit confusion but also frustration the words left your lips.
His eyes widened in surprise by your reaction. It wasn’t what he had expected and he was quite taken aback by the way you were standing with your hands harshly being placed on your hips.
“Luke you’re doing it again!” You exclaimed with just as wide eyes.
“What? Being nice for fucking once?” He exclaimed back just as angry.
“No! You’re trying to buy my forgiveness again! You can’t buy forgiveness and trust Luke! It has to be gained!”
You shook your head in disbelief and wanted to turn around but you didn’t. You wanted him to see how much you reacted to this, how much he hated what you were doing because even it was the sweetest thing you felt that it wasn’t something he did out of the good.
It only felt as a lame apology.
“Consider this my Christmas present for you.” He said bitterly and turned around to head towards the kitchen where Patrick needed assistance and opinion.
“That’s the least you can do for carrying around what is also mine.”
Your eyes grew twice their size by his words you weren’t sure if you were supposed to hear it but you did. You stood still frozen not really knowing what to do but your attention was grabbed by all the presents being placed under the Chrismas tree.
It wasn’t a little pile it was only growing bigger and bigger. You wanted to walk over and see what it was because the curiosity taking over. You were the only two you assumed to be celebrating Christmas in the penthouse.
You stopped in track when you stood in front of the tree right it said Merry Christmas with red font and leaned down to grab one of the presents.
You weren’t sure what it said but as you grabbed the small paper that showed who it was from and two, your eyes grew wide again.
“To: The Little One. From: Your Parents.”
The present wasn’t big but if you took a look around some of them were pretty big. In fact none of them were for you it was all for your little baby girl.
You tried to shake away the shivers that ran up your spine. You still wanted to be angry but reconsidering this you couldn’t stop feeling your heart skipping a beat. You really did think he would have done nothing but spoil you with presents as well.
You looked over your shoulder to see him hover over the kitchen table with a glass of red wine. He and Patrick were considering what or not to serve, not that you could get a glass of it.
When he coincidentally looked up and glanced over at you, you were quick to look away.
Hurrying to place the present back on under the tree you took a step back and didn’t really know what to do with yourself.
People were still hurrying to get everything done but as time progressed the fewer they were. Hours after the only one still standing were Patrick as he was preparing your dinner table to be set.
You hadn’t said a word but you were taking in everything about the room. It was more than you could have imagined it to be.
“I hope you’re hungry. I promise you this is the best that can be served for Christmas.” He announced after noticing you stand in the kitchen only a few meters away from him.
“Why? Because you got some sort of fancy cook to do this for you in exchange of a large sum of money?” You asked with a hint of being suspicious but his face fell.
“No, because I was a part of cooking it myself.” He replied with no emotion in his tone and checked his phone to see if the time was ready.
You furrowed your eyebrows and watched him take the food out of the hot oven. Again you were left somehow speechless and nervously fiddled your fingers because the more you looked at him the more you felt guilty of your behavior.
“You’re really just trying to be nice, aren’t you?”
“Don’t act like it’s that big of a shock to you.” He mumbled and walked past you to get to the dinner table.
It was nicely covered, Patrick had done such a nice job. It had Christmas decorations bought from the local flower shop a few streets away and it also had a lot of candles that were lit.
You could tell that dinner was about to be prepared and ready so you stood in front of one of the chairs and felt a little bit helpless.
Without saying anything Luke walked forward and pulled the chair out in front of you. At any other point you would have given him a quivered eyebrow but you just stood stunned and took a seat down with the help from him.
He was still quiet and it continued until you were eating, it was easy to fill out the silence that way but you still felt uncomfortable.
Not because you were in front of him, it wasn’t that. There was something clouding over you that really felt to be sorted out but none of you wanted to speak up and that was what was holding you back.
“So... Do you like it?” He asked after fifteen minutes of nothing but silence.
“It’s fine.” You nodded your head in agreement and awkwardly focused back on the leftovers on your plate.
“Why do you hate me?”
It was like he had been waiting for the words to spill out and it was also a shock to you when it came from his mouth. He placed his fork down onto his plate and folded his fingers together to look at you intensely.
“Hate you?” You asked weakly and furrowed your eyebrows, “What do you mean by that?”
“Well for starters you’ve been ignoring me for the past weeks. You don’t want to return my calls when I ask about the baby, you don’t want to tell me when you have appointments hell when I even show up I see my personal bodyguard with you!”
Your eyes widened in surprise by his words but you didn’t get the chance to ask further into his sudden knowledge as he continued to talk.
“You barely show up for work and when you do you don’t say a thing! You even moved out of his apartment which I had offered and personalized for you to stay at without having to worry about anything! So why Y/N, why the hell do you hate me?”
“Oh my god Luke are you completely off your bird?” You asked with wide eyes and almost forced the fork and knife onto the unfinished plate.
“When a girl ignores you it doesn’t mean that she hates you! It means you hurt her.”
“What?” He asked and his tone rose an octave.
You felt the blush spread on your cheeks by your words. They had been rushed out so fast you only thought they had been in your mind, not supposed to come out like that.
He was not saying anything but you could tell he wanted you to continue. He was stumbling over his words and it couldn’t help on the confusion if you weren’t going to spill the beans.
“You slept with Holly.”
You could see on the way he was reacting he did in fact know what it all was about. He was having a deep crimson red color on his cheeks and for once he was more speechless than you.
“You slept with Holly as I was in the exact same building. Walking around with your baby, our baby. And to be honest and to be fair I don’t have any reason to be angry at you and NO I don’t own you but my baby does!”
You could feel a burning sensation in your stomach you weren’t sure if it was because of the heartburn coming back because you had been eating too fast or if it was just because your heart was racing faster than normal.
“I just can’t believe you did it.”
“No drunken excuse adds up for what I’ve done.” He was quick to compose himself and start up some sort of defense.
“And I think we both know well enough when we regret a drunken mistake. But out of all the drunken mistakes I’ve done I don’t think I can recall one besides sleeping with Holly. Even the one you’re thinking about right now I don’t regret.”
You felt your lips part and reaction you looked down at your bump. His face had become paler by his words but he still remained the redness on his cheeks.
“So yes, out of all the dumb choices I’ve made in my life that is close to be the worst one and I’m sorry for what I’ve done. You can scream at me, you can yell at me but the past isn’t something we can change, only learn from. I learned big from my mistake, so big that I’m actually scared right now. I screwed up and I’m aware of that.”
“In what way did you screw up?” You asked with a bit of hope in your tone and looked at him with furrowed eyebrows.
“Being a father.” He said back with a low tone and shook his head in disbelief, “And I’m aware of my consequences. That is why I’m taking care of them now.”
He smiled gently when Patrick hurried over to grab the plates and clean the table from food and stuff. It was a bit of an ice breaker but inside you could feel that you were sincerely happy that he had some sort of situation awareness and knew what he did was wrong.
“So you can say that I’m buying your happiness, you can say that I’m doing all of this just because I have the money but I know one thing that I can’t buy myself to...” He paused in track to look at you with soft eyes and folded his hands together.
“Being the perfect father for my daughter.”
The words were so faint yet so strong. You could tell by the way he was looking at you in pure seriousness that it was coming deeply from his heart and in that moment you felt the urge to just give him a hug.
“Clean table, starting fresh?” He asked after a few seconds of silence and you chewed on your bottom lip.
“I can also slip a check of 20.000 on the table and call it even.”
“No.” You were quick to respond and shook your head in disagreement, “The other words were nice. Thank you.”
He smiled gently by your words and stood up from his chair as Patrick finished the rest and also with the help from Luke. It was like seeing another side of him, a warmer type. Maybe it wasn’t permanent maybe it was just because it was Christmas.
You stood up from his chair just in the second he came with two sweaters, one for you each.
“What is this?” You asked but you could recognize it as his.
“Put it on. I want to show you something.” He explained with a bit of secret in his tone but you followed his instructions. “They lit up this tree every year which can be seen from my apartment. I thought I’d share the experience with you.”
After putting it on along with a beanie you put on your shoes and followed him towards the living room that had exit to his small balcony. It wasn’t big but it was covered with botanic flowers and what else that could still survive trough the cold winter.
“I know it’s a little bit cold but... I just thought you wanted to see the view.”
The confusion was on your face but it changed quickly once you noticed the city over the balcony. All the lights that were in various colors such as red, green and orange it was all just so beautiful.
It wasn’t hard to spot the massive Christmas tree standing in the middle of the park not far away from the penthouse apartment. All the lights circled around it would be able to be been see on even such distance like this.
You looked over at him not really knowing what to say. He clicked on a button above the ceiling that turned on three large lamps with heat to make sure you wouldn’t get too cold.
“If you’d like we could also watch it from the couches?” He asked carefully and nodded his head backwards towards the red leather.
“No, no this is fine.” You nodded your head and smiled softly, watching him nod his head in agreement and wrap a black scarf around his neck.
You watched Patrick hurry out with two glasses of hot chocolate and a beer, making sure that none of you would burn your fingers by serving it on a small fancy tray.
“Thank you so much Patrick. If you’d like you can go home now.” Luke explained a little more quiet and fished out an envelope with the name Hemm written in italic font.
“Have a lovely evening.” Patrick said back to the both of you with a nod and disappeared out of the door happily.
“That’s nice.” You commented with a bit of wonder in your tone and he looked over at you with his icy blue eyes.
“I always give my staff Christmas presents. It’s the least I can do with everything they offer and suffer just for my pleasure.”
You nodded your head carefully and moved away from the rack of the balcony to take a seat down on the small outdoor couch next to him.
He leaned over to grab the blankets and wrapped one around you without really saying anything. But for once you actually enjoyed the silence. It was nice, you weren’t feeling pressured and you could actually breathe.
You could see the shadows of small people walking around far away around the Christmas tree. It wouldn’t be long before they would be ready to prepare for the lights to be lit and for you to see.
“I do this every year.” He announced and you looked up at him.
“Because I work so hard twenty-four seven it’s hard to find time to go back home. With a busy family and hard schedule we don’t really celebrate Christmas together. So every year I sit out here and watch this. It’s a tradition of some sort.”
A gutted feeling ran up your spine by his words. How did he manage to go through it every year? Christmas was what was supposed to bring people and family together.
“Don’t pout.” He said softly and gently touched your chin, “I’m used to it.”
“That doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s sad.” You shrugged and watched him open the small can of good old Christmas beer.
“I know. But it’s not something I feel like I’m missing out on. It comes with being alone all the time.”
He took a sip of his beer and nudged his shoulder against yours. You could tell that what he was saying was true. He didn’t mind, he thought it was okay and he didn’t want you to worry about him.
“Beer?” He asked in suggestion to change the subject and when you quivered an eyebrow his face fell.
“Oh no. Right.” He shook his head in disbelief and looked down at the beer with a pathetic laugh. “Stupid question.”
You smiled softy by his words and nodded your head in agreement. He fiddled with the can as you laughed quietly by the way he seriously looked like he was mentally kicking himself over the leg for his mistake.
“It’s okay.” You mumbled and wrapped the blanket closer to your body.
It wasn’t supposed to happen but once the silence fell upon you again it just happened.
You could his body vibrate when your head slowly connected with his shoulder. At first he was barely reacting but then he looked down at you with a soft look.
Maybe it was what meant the forgiving but you continued to stay this quiet. The noises of cars driving and what else that was coming from the outdoor filled out your silence as he leaned his head on top of yours.
“I think it’s happening now.” He whispered and pointed down at the shadows of people and you hummed in agreement.
It was a loud cheers from distance that came when the lights were turned on one by one. They followed the path of the Christmas lights that were wrapped around the tree until it came to the top where the star was now sinning bright.
It was more beautiful than you had expected. The amount of colors mixed together had the best vibe possible and you could also feel Luke smile next to you.
In that moment almost everything felt perfect. Until you suddenly felt something weird.
“Oh my god.” It was with a twitch you moved your head away from Luke’s shoulder and he looked away from the tree quick.
“What?” He asked with a hint of worry in his tone and placed the beer on the outdoor table.
“Oh my god!” You repeated your words again but this time with less nervousness than before. It was with a rush you removed the blankt and looked down at your bump just to make sure what you believed was actually true.
“I just thought it was stomach aches but no! Oh my, Oh my god it just happened again!” Your voice was so excited but it wasn’t helping on him because he looked so confused you almost wanted to laugh.
“Give me your hand.” You directed and without hesitation grabbed his hand before he could say or do so to place it under your shirt.
The puzzle pieces seemed to fall to place when he felt the movement. It still took him a few seconds to register what was going on but once he felt a force in his hand he looked at you with wide eyes.
“Was that?” He asked and quivered an eyebrow when he felt it again.
“A kick? It must be!” You said excitedly and placed your hand on the other side in case you could feel something as well.
“And this is the first time she has?” He asked just to be sure and you nodded your head with a large smile.
“I’ve been waiting for so long I was almost growing nervous about it. But it’s there it’s definitely kicking I can’t believe it!”
The smile was growing on his face as well and he waited a few seconds until it appeared again. It wasn’t harsh it didn’t hurt on you but you could feel it so clearly it was a wonderful feeling.
“That is... That is very nice.” His voice went quiet again but the smile on his face was so bright it was affectionate.
You nodded your head in agreement and leaned back on the couch still with his hand on you. It was okay, you had nodded your head in allowance and leaned over to grab the blanket again.
Even if Luke didn’t want to admit it you could tell that this was definitely something out of the ordinary and he felt quiet proud of the life that was growing inside of you.
“Merry Christmas, Luke.” You hummed and leaned your head against his shoulder again.
“Merry Christmas, Y/N.” He whispered back and you both looked back at the trees again, the faint sounds of Christmas songs being sung in the background along with cars driving in the city lights.
