“Oh, getting into personal effects now, are we?” he teased lightly, leaning back against the chair he’d been inhabiting for the last few hours. Rather than make possibly traceable use of the equipment, he kept to a PADD instead, catching up on the centuries of literature and culture he’d missed out on. Some of it had been good, and some of it had been of a level of violence he would have not wished on anyone. “I was there, in Berlin at the fall of the Wall in 1989. I was one of the joyous few to raise a pick against damnable thing.”

“Unless you’d rather not?” she offered, hoping with all of her heart that it was a no. He didn’t seem to mind but the last thing she’d ever want to do was push him too far. All of the tension building up released upon him giving an answer. Her eyes widened as she sat forward a bit more in her chair. “Holy shit,” she murmured, more to herself than him. “I can’t even imagine what that must have felt like. I mean, I’ve only read about it in school. What was th–….I mean, how did that feel?”

"What you call bravery, many others call stupidity." And quite frequently to her face. The misguided beliefs of strangers did little to affect her mood but when the claims had begun flying from inside that the hammer was going to fall, it's taken all the restraint she had not to resign her post. It was made clear as time passed that getting rid of both of them would have been ideal so it drove her to stay as long as possible. Let them be uncomfortable. Let them know a sliver of the unease that they'd all caused John. "If I am brave for standing at your side, surely it is the effect and not the cause: I am brave because I am at your side and you are at mine. My place in this world is at your side...you may consider it brave to take it up but I will let it be known that not only do I claim this place as my own but I don't plan on losing it. You call it brave, they call it stupid, and I call it...selfish."

In spite of the lack of real threat in the situation, he found himself pleased by the young girl’s bravery. The man at the shopping plaza seemed to think twice - not because of the android who easily had six inches on him, but because of the young girl standing in the android’s defense. He put a hand on the girl’s shoulder. “We should return home. Your mother will be off duty soon.”

“AND DON’T COME BACK!” Charlie shouted as the man walked away. 

With her furious expression and hands on her hips, the little girl looked the spitting image of her mother. When Kahn spoke, she looked up at him and grinned, her anger evaporating at the very sight of his face.

“Okay! -But first we’ve gotta finish buying the ghost-eez!” Charlie had been mispronouncing the word for as long as she’d know it, but Sandra had never found it within herself to correct Charlie, not when it was so darn cute.
