our Lady Knight happens to be sworn to serve a master seamstress ✨
i thought about this in rereading @thereynoldstwins excellent take on Brienne needing closure for her Feminine arc. I am so freshly enamored with all that our girl represents. George got me good with these two.
It is thematic in both GOT and ASOIAF that Brienne is only comfortable in armor. She wears something resembling men’s clothing at court, when she has a choice, most likely because she unconsciously feels she is not allowed to be womanly or that it is an attainable goal. Might as well not even try. Arguably the worst moments of her life are spent in the horrible pink dress Roose Bolton provides for her. She is entirely powerless: glaringly unwomanly and yet she has no access to her masculine side to save herself. Her greatest triumphs are once Jaime has outfitted her and entrusted her. Her clothes and her confidence on her journey are directly correlated.
It feels wrong to say she HAS to look pretty to be actualized. I really hope the writers figured out how to do it delicately. I don’t necessarily think she needs a Princess-Diaries-transformation-montage “i finally feel beautiful” moment to be a complete person, but it would make my sappy heart sing to see her in a perfectly suited (navy blue?? with sapphires??? wEDDING???) gown of her Lady’s making. Sansa has always been a naturally gifted seamstress, mentioned within moments of meeting her in 1x01 and several times throughout the series. It would be cool to see her using her skills generously, and i will definitely cry if we get a sweet scene between the Lady of Winterfell and her Knight <3
A neat parallel there would be that Jaime helped her achieve her Masculine path arc by making her a Ser, and Sansa could help her finally truly feel like a Lady. Her two greatest oaths reciprocate her devotion by showering her with the love and support she deserves :’)
This whole prediction feels like a reach but @annamarcellipalmer‘s post on how Jaime already has his tux picked out probably Brienne’s armor is basically a Lannistarth love letter makes me hopeful. The series has always been richly visual, both the show & the books use fashion as a storytelling/foreshadowing device, and this would be a great opportunity to beg direct attention to the costume team’s incredible work one last time.
Man the Braime discourse is so good this season and i am ALIVE!!!!! Please by all means use this as a prompt.
