Just finished 9x08 with the bonus mom and um... What the fuck?
So are we supposed to remember the whole 'everyone is worried about/upset at Buck for worrying about and monitoring everyone else post Bobby instead of processing his grief' as Hen instead? Or did it just not happen now? Eddie literally went over to Karen and Hen's to talk about the fact Buck was monitoring people and not letting Eddie in!
Yes, Hen and Karen had a moment that tells us Hen probably wasn't being truthful with Eddie about her own grief. But it reads as Karen knows and is in it with her, not that Hen is just languishing in it on her own.
And how many times has EVERYONE in the 118 firefam had shit going on and 'been ignored' cause they just don't talk about it or shut ppl down when they ask about it? Except for the opposite with Buck when he was asking for help with his situation post-ladder truck and ppl just brushed him off cause Bobby and Maddie basically said he was at fault for his embolism. Like the only one we actually see going to him to check in on him post-bombing is the girlfriend who dumps him after getting him settled in and then Eddie. Even after getting caught in the tsunami we don't even see Maddie going to check on him. And even then Eddie completely turns on him when Buck has the crash out and sues ppl instead of going to his fucking Union Rep. (Which honestly dumb move. Man should have taken that straight to the Union.)
Like... Everyone bottles shit up till they run away from their family (Maddie), leave to dispatch (Eddie), fall asleep at the wheel and nearly cause a pileup and quit medical school (Hen), have crashouts and yell at patients and commanding officers at the scene of an accident (Chim), or resolve to hand everything off to a different firefighter and transfer out cause they feel like they don't belong there anymore (Buck).
Hen's recent fuck-up had her nearly passing out in a burning building while rescuing a child. And her reasoning for hiding it was she was worrying about everyone else? Supposedly doing things we only saw Buck doing? Make it make sense?
And the system takeover and hopping around from the AI? Like... Huh? I'm all for an anti-AI storyline but um... Maybe we could have made it a little less Skynet? If only to show how AI is actually a bad idea and not just what makes good television?
